OpenSUSE Network :: Apache And Tomcat Services - HTTPD Door
Jun 16, 2010
I have both apache and tomcat services running, both in their standard doors (tomcat 8080, httpd 80). I need to setup tomcat to run on door 80 instead of httpd. I changed httpd door with success to 8180. Now I want to change tomcat6 door to 80, and I did that by editing server.xml config file of tomcat. After restarting tomcat, the system tells me it's ok, but I can see that it's not running on 80, nor at any other door. A simple nmap search confirm that. What should I do to have tomcat running in door 80?

I have Apache Server working online under Fedora Core 6. But before I installed and configured everything, I've been testing in Fedora 12. The problem surges here, when I start the httpd service, every supuse 404 action on a web browser, takes me to localhost. I mean, if I enter google.com, no error, just goes to localhost, http://asdasd, no error, gives back localhost. I used to ignore the problem 'cause I thought it was a problem on my apache, but when I installed the Server on the Fedora Core 6 machine, I found that I have the same problem there. Of course, it only occurs when I am browsing through the same machine that has httpd started. Does anyone know how to change that??

I am unable to examine Apache httpd error log from YaST2 because the lines are too long; the browser just truncates them and thus it does not show any description. The only option is to save it. However, when I chose that option, YaST2 encourages me to save it in /tmp, and as soon as I do that, the log becomes accessible to every user!

I have a little bit of a problem, I run openSUSE as a server on a Dell PowerEdge T610. I use it for sharing files in a local network and as a web server accessible through the public IP (configured through router DMZ). Also, I use Teamviewer for remote control in order to avoid some compatibility and network problems. Generally the computer runs flawless but from time to time, as about once in two weeks, all network related services except the Apache server which runs just fine, and is still accesible, crash. The Samba share can't be accessed anymore, the Teamviewer is also dead and the only way to put everything back in order is a restart. The thing is I don't know if an error occurs since the server hasn't got a monitor installed, and more than that I do most of my work remotely (as in miles and miles away from the location) and it takes me quite some time to actually get there and see what's happening.
So, any ideas what might be happening? I belive that there might be some information in some of the logs, but as I am not an expert in Unix like operating systems I don't exactly know where to start from.

I am trying to setup Fedira 12 Linux Apache in my home network. I am able to access the hosted website from inside my home network without any problem. I am facing the problem to access it from outside. At the moment i have connected the Apache directly to DSL modem for testing purpose. I was reading "The ISP may have blocked the HTTP port 80. So check it by connecting the Apache directly to DSL modem." The temporary network connections for testing purpose are as follows..
DSL modem (SIEMENS Speed Stream 4200)-->Fedora 12/Linux Apache Server
I am even unable to PING the real ip (IP for DSL modem).(Firefox gave me error message "Connection Timed out) I have tried to ping it from the internet.I can PING the DSL from Apache without any problem.
1. Why i am even unable to PING the real IP of DSL modem at my home.?
2. Is it possible to run/setup Apache by using this type of DSL modem?
3. DSL modem has real IP. DSL MODEM assigns private IP (192.168.x.x) to Apache. So when a http request form the internet came to DSL modem on port 80, will it forward to Apache automatically.? or i have to made any changes.(I can not see anything in DSL modem to change/modify), OR do I have to use another DSL MODEM/Equipment (router)? This setup is just temporary. The actual design is as follows
DSL MODEM(Speed Stream 4200)-->Fedora 12 Linux ROUTER--->Internal network with DNS/Apache Server

I just installed FC12 x86_64. After a clean install I found that httpd, mysql, svn, svnadmin, etc are already installed. I still need to install and configure tomcat running as a worker behind httpd and configure everything. But my question is about security. What do I need to do to ensure that when I start httpd and mysql that they are secure? Are there default settings that I need to change? Are there security patches I need to apply?
System Config:
Fedora Core 12 x86_64
AMD Athlon II X2 250 3.0 GHz dual core
GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model F2-8500CL5D-4GBPK

Since I started using Fedora 10 I can't login as root. Even though the system recognizes the root password when it requires it for certain administrative tasks it refuses to let me login as root.
When I try to edit httpd.conf I get the message "could not save file..." it doesn't even prompt me for the root password. My httpd service is dead and I can't resurrect it, what should I do?

On my tomcat6 log I have the following:
Code:
INFO: The APR based Apache Tomcat Native library which allows optimal performance in production environments was not found on the java.library.path: /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_16/jre/lib/i386/server:/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_16/jre/lib/i386:/usr/java/jdk1.6.0_16/jre/../lib/i386:

Why doesn't tomcat recognizes the /usr/lib64/libapr-1.so.0 or /usr/lib64/libapr-1.so.0.3.3?

I have an OpenSuSE 11.1 in vmWare ESX and every other boot I can't access any running network services (ssh, webmin, qmail, mysql, ...) from outside. I just need to login, reboot and voila - network services are working.I gradually updated to 11.2 and 11.3 by following the wiki with success but this problem remained. So I reverted to snapshot of 11.1 and now I would like to identify and solve the problem here first.I also looked at /var/log/messages /var/log/boot.msg /var/log/lastlog but can't find anything usefull. I will now compare those files from the working and non-working boot but meanwhile someone already has an idea or experience what could be wrong?

When ever I have an issue with our LDAP server (which I was able to fix) we see the following errors in /var/log/messages and it causes problems with our services running on that box, e.g. httpd, nrpe, xinetd, etc. Aug 8 17:44:42 hostname httpd: nss_ldap: failed to bind to LDAP server ldap://serveraddress/: Can't contact LDAP server Aug 8 17:44:42 hostname httpd: nss_ldap: reconnecting to LDAP server (sleeping 64 seconds)... I am only wanting to authenticate SSH and Sudo and not services like httpd, nrpe, xinetd etc.

I am trying to set up an Apache frontend server followed by a Tomcat server. Tomcat needs to run as an https service. I will have two services, both accessible independently, if desired.This login module is a webapp, running inside Tomcat.
Question:
Do I configure the Tomcat on port 8443 (I want to run it as a non-root) and do nothing with Apache or do I run on the standard port 8080 and configure Apache?
If Tomcat, is it server.xml? (connector?)
If Apache, is it httpd.conf?

I want to setup tomcat and apache to run on SSL. I did set up apache to run with ssl and tomcat (wo ssl). Tomcat is on 8081 and apache is on standard HTTP/HTTPS ports. Now I installed JK module and I want to access "host-manager" application on tomcat with ssl, but when I try https://localhost/host-manager/ I get 503 error and when I try [URL]. I get 404 error. Here's my /etc/apache2/sites-available/default conf:
Code:
<VirtualHost *:80>
ServerAdmin webmaster@localhost
DocumentRoot /var/www
<Directory />
Options FollowSymLinks
AllowOverride None
</Directory>
<Directory /var/www/>

Here is /etc/apache2/mods-enabled/jk.load:

LoadModule jk_module /usr/lib/apache2/modules/mod_jk.so
JkWorkersFile /etc/apache2/workers.properties
JkLogFile /var/log/apache2/mod_jk.log
JkLogLevel info
JkLogStampFormat "[%a %b %d %H:%M:%S %Y] "
JkOptions +ForwardKeySize +ForwardURICompat -ForwardDirectories

I have a Apache web server and a separate tomcat 5 server. I can run the jsp-exaples just fine using HTTP. However using HTTPS fails. For some reason it appears HTTPS is not forwarding to the connector, I get 404 not found, returned.If I simply try https://apache_server_ip I successfully connect to the default Apache page.According to this page it should just work. Apache should do the ssl encryption/decryption and tomcat operate as normal.

I have used same Hardware and OS platfrom for web server benchmarking and i have used similar php and jsp scripts for Apache and Tomcat. For this testing i have used apache ab benchmarking toolFrom this statistics i would like to clarify the performances about Apache and Tomcat.
1. why Tomcat have taken too much of time to finish this 10 million requests to compare with Apache?
2. why this huge different for "Request per Second"?
3. To Tomcat i have increased multi thread level 300 and JVM memory usage upto 2048mb(but performances not increased), rather than these, is there any other performance tune-up settings for Tomcat?
4. from these statistics, can i come to the conclusion that apache is the best?
5.do u feel that ab tool favouring to Apache?

I'm configuring a web server using Apache and Tomcat. I use Apache 2 and various instances of Tomcat5 and Tomcat6..I try that Apache serves the static data and tomcat the dynamic (Apache receives all requests, sending tomcat only the dynamic)I see that Apache and Tomcat can be connected using http or ajp Can any tell me:
- What connector should I use: ajp, http,...?
- How can I say Apache to serve the static data and Tomcat the dynamic?Due to I have many instances of Tomcat, connectins http and https, https with client certificates, and due to the port configuration:
- Is there any way to configure Apache-tomcat without the use of ports in tomcat (a differect connector)?

we have configured snv in our server but when we tried to access our svn folder from client its saying path not found error.This is because apache is mapped to tomcat so when we tried to access svn by default it looks to some other path and displaying path not found error.My question is how to restrict apache from forwarding its request to tomcat or else how to stop the tomcat service. I am using centos and i tried with /etc/init.d/tomcat5 stop but it is not getting stopped.
