I'm using openSUSE 11.3 and i access internet through usb-stick.
Before inserting my usb-stick, i generally remove the usb-storage module driver by this command:
modprobe -r usb-storage
But after this command, i get an output saying that usb-storage is built in and cannot be removed.
Can anybody help me how to remove that module. It works well under ubuntu and Mandriva.
How do I properly load/install
alias scsi_hostadapter2 ahci
into /etc/modprobe? (And /sys/module and /sys/bus/pci/drivers?)
I recently isntalled opensuse 11.3 and I was trying to get the juniper ssl vpn working. It connects and everything goes fine until it prompts me for the root password. Once I do that, it errors out saying: "Modprobe for tun module failed" or something of that nature.

On Linux Mint (Gnome) i used to go to Network drive. that is on the right hand side of Nautilus there is a short cut for Network. in there i could see my network hard drive and other laptops connected to the network, and i could access my files. but on OpenSuse, when i open the network folder, nothing comes up. may be it needs some sort of configuration.
View 2 Replies View RelatedMain desktop upgrade no problem. Laptop upgrade no problem. With my Media machine I had a problem the the ATI build-in graphics hardware. During install it did not ask to remove the ATI driver. no graphical UI. Since all the data where backed up anyway and the original install lacked some partitioning, I did a fresh install. Had some problems with sound, which I could fix via the KDE multimedia "phonon".

By the way, what is this in my /usr/share/ati/fglrx-install? code...
And how do I revert back to 'radeon'?
I was trying to compile and insert a module. The module compiles fine and creates tool.ko file(am compiling it from Desktop). Next when I try to use "insmod tool.ko" , it gives em this error: insmod: error inserting 'tool.ko': -1 Operation not permitted.I tried to use modprobe instead , thinking it might install the dependencies(if any) by itself: "modprobe -v tool.ko" but it gives me this error
FATAL: Module tool.ko not found
I went over some linux forum posts and tried to resolve it but no use.I copied all the files from Desktop to the /lib/modules/2.6.34.7-0.7-Desktop/build folder and then ran the commands but still face the same problem. Used this "/sbin/depmod -a " thinking it might update the modeprob.conf file, but no use !

I have been having trouble with my wireless connection intermittently disconnecting and reconnecting repeatedly (sometimes every couple of seconds). I posted a thread about this here on Ubuntu Forums titled: Ubuntu 10.45 & NetworkManager Applet 8.0: Connects & Disconnects Frequently.
Can do nothing with the PC. New install of 10.04 and was prompted to install Nvidia driver. Did so. Rebooted, now have nothing except a thin line at top of screen. How can I remove this driver when I see nothing?

App got broken during the process/setup.., I have removed it (yast) ignoring some of it's dependencies, also I have removed folder /opt/freeswitch manually. In Yast it shows that app is still installed.. when trying to remove it, there is an error, force remove also out puts an error. "whereis" command shows no file, I was also trying to force install it one more time but it fails. Is there a was to delete it permanently?

Boot resumed and I looked for the reason for this, the padlock-sha.ko module does exist in the appropiate place and the volume was mounted in spite of the error message. Lvmdump seems to indicate that the volume is, in fact, encrypted. My thoughts at the moment are that the volume was encrypted by aes, so the padlock-sha.ko was not necessary to mount the volume. Backtracking the message log the same error happened during the creation of the volume before rebooting. The kernel version gives it away but it's a 11.2 machine.
until yesterday night wireless was working fine on openSUSE 11.2 After a reboot, suddenly wireless is not even shown as a possible network medium. In the network manager, the tab with "wireless" is greyed out.After going through many forum posts, here is what all I have tried.Output from various commands:

I guess that driver is not getting loaded since modprobe is giving an error which I mentioned earlier. What could be reason? Did driver crashed? Since this issue cropped up only after I rebooted the machine.

I ran into a problem that seems to be related to: [URL] with an HP Desktop. The desktop has a Intel 82567LM-3 on board gigabit ethernet adapter which on a fresh install of 11.3 would not operate properly. The e1000e driver was properly detected however on loading, the ethernet interface was never initialized. I've just installed Opensuse 11.3 on m Dell Studio 15, and am having problems getting the wireless card to work. I've installed the proper driver (I think), using ndiswrapper, and have blacklisted the conflicting driver (called ssb) to the 50-blacklist.conf file in /etc/modprobe.d/. My problem is that the ssb driver is still appearing as an alternate driver when I use the command ndiswrapper -l in the terminal. Where do I go from here? Am I correct that the ssb driver is not blacklisted correctly?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have bought a new Dell Studio XPS Desktop with Broadcom BCM57788 network card. The installation of the tg3 driver from Dell was done according to Documentation
But still, the network card is not there. When I call ifconfig, there is only "lo" and no "eth". In Yast it says that the Netlink BCM57788 card cannot be configured because the firmware is missing. I also already did modprobe tg3 and rmmod tg3.
BTW, I have installed OpenSuse 11.2 x32 which is Linux 2.6.31.5.
Ok have setup my printer under suse 11.3 just fine and printing perfectly, and have added the printer to a windows 7 client, but had to get the disk to install the windows driver. Is there any way that i can put the windows driver on the linux machine so that when i go to a windows client and want to add the printer, i can just connect to the printer and the windows driver will be installed over the network like it does with windows servers?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am attempting a Network installation of openSuse 11.3 on an old desktop which has IBM Boot Manager so that I can boot to one of three OSs, openSuse being the third. Sadly the installation of openSuse fails before the CD initial boot has finished. Looking at the text log of the starting process the problem appears to be a driver and the last line of text where it stalls refers to eata driver.
There are 4 hard drives in the machine, configured as two RAID 1 arrays driven by a DPT 2144W hardware raid card. (Very old but very good). If I Google eata I get a good deal on SCSI raid and DPT cards but I am out of my depth when they say a kernel module is needed.
Another concern is that the RAID arrays are configured using a bootable DOS configuration disk and once this is done they are recognized by other OSs such as eCS and OS/2. The arrays are just treated as single drives so these OS installations do not interfere with the card configuration. I am concerned because I cannot afford to lose the data on the drives but it appears the linux driver might want to rebuild the arrays.
Although Im using SuSE since 7.2 this is my first forum post here. I just plugged in my iPhone with USB and 11.4 created an eth1 interface for the iPhone and also loads the ipheth kernel module. Anyhow I am not able to acquire an IP address using DHCP. The iPhone OS is 4.2.1 and its an iPhone 3G 8GB black

I just got a new laptop and need to configure/install it's wireless driver but am getting an error when running "make". I have scoured these forums and know that others have the same issue (when configuring other drivers/programs). I am sorry if this post is redundant. It sounds like the Makefile is pointing to the wrong directory. I am using opensuse 11.4, have make and gcc installed. My kernel is linux-2.6.37.1-1.2 (I just re-installed the desktop kernel to make sure it was up to date). The driver I am trying to install is located here: AUR (en) - rtl8192ce.
Another forum suggests pointing somewhere in the /usr/src/linux-2.6.37.1-1.2 directory instead. Is this correct? Should I be pointing to a folder within this? I am not a programmer but any description about what I am actually putting in this directory and why would be awesome (so I can learn a bit more). Or just helping me solve the problem would be great too.
