OpenSUSE Network :: KDE 4.5.4 Networkmanager Crashes While Installing Mobile Connection

Dec 20, 2010

I am a long time gentoo-user (~10 years). Just bought this new laptop and don't want to take the time to compile everything. During my search for a nice binary distro, I found the KDE reloaded CD, which I then downloaded. That was because I had a great hassle to find a Distro which supports the latest KDE, I was used by gentoo. Well, I am very impressed: Installation went flawless and the Distro is very up-to-date.

Well, now to one of my problems: I have this mobile internet stick:

Code:
ID 12d1:140c Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd.

which also gets detected as a modem. So far so good. When I now try to set it up, the KDE networmanager just segfaults badly... This is the output from the error report:

Maybe there is a possibility to set it up command line?

Code:
Application: KDE-Kontrollmodul (kdeinit4), signal: Segmentation fault

OpenSUSE Network :: Disable Connection In Networkmanager?

May 2, 2010

I just tested Networkmanager on OpenSuSE 11.2. I tried with my wired connection and it works.

I thought I test to connect with network sharing with my Android phone. The Android phone connects according to Networkmanager, but I'm not sure if it actually works as the wired connection is still active.

I tried to figure out how to disable the wired connection, but eventually gave up and just pulled the wired network plug.

But surely, there must be a way to disable connections from Networkmanager?

Fedora Networking :: NetworkManager Can't Connect My Mobile Internet Connection

After some wonderful days with fedora with my CDMA mobile internet connection (the only connection where I live) NetworkManager can't connect anymore.

I tried to delete the settings and rewrite them without success.

I have A Novatel Ovation U720 CDMA/EDVO USB modem.

I can connect with wnXP and kubuntu, but can't connect with fedora anymore.

I wish to make the definitive move from kubuntu to fedora... but I should wait.

OpenSUSE Network :: No Iptab For Mobile Broadband Connection?

Jan 9, 2011

I connect to the internet with a mobile broadband dongle. I would like to change the dns settings as page loading seems to be running slow. However, there is no ip tab associated with mobile broadband in the knetwork manager module. There is however for my vpn connection. I have found reference to the ip tab in other postings but alas I am stumped. Is it possible that the mobile broadband connection does not load that tab whereas users on wireless or ethernet have it? That is the only solution I can think of.

OpenSUSE Network :: Mobile Broadband Connection Fails

May 22, 2011

I have a Huawei E173u-2 mobile broadband usb stick. It is recognised as a gsm-modem and shows up as such in the networkManager-plasmoid. I have set up the connection details for my ISP (O2), but I can't connect. When I click on the connection, "signal strength" is shown as well as "operator" (o2 - de). The "connection state" changes to "Preparing to connect", then "Setting network address". Then the modem vanishes and comes up again a few seconds later.

Here is the log (/var/log/messages):

Code:

It seems like there is a connection for about 5 seconds, then the modem hangs up and restarts .

The stick works fine with our windows netbook, so I don't think it is a hardware failure.

How do I get this working?

My system:
opensuse 11.4
kernel 2.6.39-30-desktop (2.6.38 gives the same error)
kde 4.6.3
plasmoid-networkmanagement 0.9.svn1192577-168.6

Ubuntu Networking :: Installing Mobile Broadband - Froze Completely - Networkmanager Refused To See The Modem

Mar 8, 2010

I am trying to switch to mobile broadband, Ubuntu 9.10, Huawei E1750 modem, provider Telia Sweden. So far I tried this:

(previous: tried to get started with an Option Icon 550 modem, but could not do it. Ubuntu froze completely, networkmanager refused to see the modem after this. Read somewhere that it is (next to) impossible with Ubuntu, but Huawei is a better chance. Maybe I changed some settings on the way, went and got a Huawei)

-connected modem, nothing happened

-rebooted to Windows Vista, installed modem

-rebooted to Ubuntu networkmanager sees the modem, when I select it, it gives a message 'GSM network, disconnected'

Also: Ububtu sees the usb stick as a folder

OpenSUSE Network :: Error On Updating / Installing Software - Connection Failed

Oct 21, 2010

I had this issue with Fedora Core 13, so I switched my laptop back to OpenSuse and continued to have the problem. I can do a host lookup for software.opensuse.com and I get a correct response ...
Code:
linux-edxs:/etc # host software.opensuse.org
software.opensuse.org has address 195.135.221.150
linux-edxs:/etc # host download.opensuse.org
download.opensuse.org has address 195.135.221.134

Firefox works. Thunderbird finds my mail servers just fine. SSH works. But then when I try to do anything involving software updates or installation, I get ...
Code:
linux-edxs:/etc # zypper update
Retrieving repository 'Updates for openSUSE 11.3 11.3-1.82' metadata []
Download (curl) error for '[URL]':
Error code: Connection failed
Error message: Couldn't resolve host 'download.opensuse.org'

I've seen others here post queries about this, and I'll tell you what it was in my case: our DSL modem's DHCP server returns its own IPV4 address as the DNS server. When I looked at /etc/resolve.conf, I saw "nameserver: 192.168.50.254" on the last line -- the IPV4 address of our DSL modem. I manually inserted "nameserver" lines for our ISP's two actual DNS servers, and everything magically started working. Why this should confuse some software under Linux, but not other software, is a mystery. It also seems to be Gnome-specific (I didn't have this problem with OpenSuse 11.3 and KDE 4).

Ask if they're using Gnome, and ask them to check resolve.conf. A lot of DSL modems and home/small office routers return their own IP address (i.e., the same as the gateway address) for the DNS server on a DHCP query. The solution is to manually edit resolve.conf and put in your ISP's DNS server addresses manually. Incidentally, just my opinion, but Network Manager needs to make this an option. Under Windows, for example, you can select "automatically assign DNS" or you can enter them manually, even if you're using DHCP. It'd be nice if Network Manager permitted that.

Fedora Networking :: Bridged Networking And NetworkManager - No Network Connection Because Network Isn't Managed

Mar 2, 2011

I have installed qemu/kvm and created a Bridged network connection which works just fine(Windows 7 VM won't work in NAT mode.)

But when I try to use NetworkManager it says that I have no network connection because the network isn't managed, (I set the settings in ifcfg-br0 and ifcfg-eth0 to be managed)

The real problem is that now I can't use my VPN connections (I have many) in NetworkManager.

Is there a way to have both of these pieces of functionality?

I am using FC14

OpenSUSE Wireless :: NetworkManager Does Not Run Connection At Boot

Jan 6, 2009

I'm using OpenSuse 11.1 (but it applies also to 11.0) on a Dell XPS, NetworkManager and scpm to manage profiles. I configured wireless network without problems and all runs perfectly. The annoying problem is that the wireless connection doesn't start at boot. Also by clicking on the NetworkManager applet networks are not displayed

But, as soon as I launch network configuration from Yast without do anything other, magically the wireless network is recognized and the PC connects to it.

It seems that the network configuration from Yast activates NetworkManager to connect or it activates the interface or the hardware.

Ubuntu Networking :: Mobile Broadband Connection Not Selectable In Network Manager

Nov 3, 2010

I am having problems with my 3 dongle- when I connect it to my netbook it flashes green so it detects a 3G network. However there is nothing in network manager enabling me to choose the mobile broadband so I can't use it. I know there should be an entry "mobile broadband" after the wireless networks listed.

I know the dongle works because I have previously used it successfully- I was using Linux Mint 8 and have now updated to version 9 and when I have tried to use it have been unable to do so.

I have gone into the connections and my 3 connection is present but there is no way for me to select it in network manager.

OpenSUSE Network :: Can't Start NetworkManager

Jan 26, 2011

I seem to have somehow messed up my repositories and now NetworkManager isn't working.

I have two errors happening, which I'm sure are related. First of all, when I try to load knetworkmanager, I get the error:

Code:
knetworkmanager: error while loading shared libraries: libkminterminals.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Second of all, when I restart my computer, upon loading I get a message from Akondi Server Self-Test saying several databases failed. I've never seen this before, so I think fixing these errors would be best? Some of the errors are MySql failed, akondi not registered at dbus, etc.

Lastly, I don't have a wired connection so currently my machine has no internet. I'm using a second laptop to get necessary files and I transfer them with usb.
