since a few weeks I have a problem connecting to other hosts when I'm using another wireless network, which has a different DNS IP than I have in my network. I have to change /etc/resolv.conf to change the nameserver. Can NetworkManager control the nameserver? If yes, how?
View 3 RepliesI'm having some trouble connecting to the wireless network here at home. The PC has a Linksys WMP600N wireless network card, which works fine under several versions of Windows. In Opensuse however, I cannot get it to find the network. Even though my laptop is right next to it, which has perfect connection to the network. The router is a Linksys WRT610N.
I've tried running iwconfig and iwlist scan in the terminal, but the scan returns no results and iwconfig indicates it does not have a connection to a network. I've turned off IPv6 as I read this can sometimes cause issues. I've also tried issuing the computer a static IP address, figuring the DHCP might be causing problems, but all to no avail.

I live in an area of Australia were wired internet dare not tread (or so say the ISPs). My only real choice is 3G wireless broadband, and even that is iffy at times. Often late at night the network towers do "something" (reset, maintenance, etc. - no idea) and the internet drops out, networkmanager tries to reconnect, fails, tries again, (etc. etc.) until it ultimately gives up, requiring human intervention when the towers are done with whatever it is they are doing. This happens frequently, and I'd like to have networkmanager keep trying "forever" until it connects so I don't have to restart the connection each morning.
Where would such a thing be set? How does networkmanager know when to give up?
I just installed open Suse 11.3, and I cannot SSH my school. Upon further investigation I could not even ping any machines outside my local area network. Ironically I could nmap machines outside my local area network.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI just bought a new USB wireless adapter for my openSUSE 11.3 laptop, a TP-Link TP-WN727N. I can't get the new card to connect to my home wireless network, which is named WRT320N in the screenshot. KDE prompts for the key repeatedly but never connects successfully. Part of the problem might stem from the fact that this laptop now has 2 wireless cards: one build into chipset (PRO/Wireless 3945ABG) and the new USB card. Both show up in knetworkmanager but no clear distinction is made between them visually. Strangely my wireless network shows up twice in knetworkmanager as in the screenshot. Once per wireless card? As my wireless network is N-only I don't see why it would do this.

I have a wireless network with a hidden SSID and WPA2-PSK security. I entered all the nescery information into the KDE network manager, but it couldn't find my network. So I ran the usual command:

su -c iwlist wlan0 scanning essid [My SSID]
At which point, the network manager immediately found, and connected to, the network. However, it seems that I have to run this command (as root) each time I log in, before my laptop will connect to the network. The network manager has no problem find the plethora of unsecured networks as well as those that are secure, but broadcast their SSID.
I've spent 29 hours trying to figure this out. And I'm about to blow my brains out. Fresh install 11.2. - 64bit but tried 32 bit and same thing. Dell studio 1734. Broadcom wireless and wired. Installed broadcom drivers (b43) through yast. Wired eth0 works. Wireless eth1 works. Surf with Firefox fine. BUT. Kmail will not connect through wireless. Nor can I access repositories through wireless.
Tried blacklisting B43 in ssb no change. What in the hell is going on? I've searched forum after forum and tried everything and CANNOT make this happen.

But i have problem with wireless, i can see my home wifi, but it doesnt connect. I have same problem in ubuntu, but it was solved when i change passphrase to 40/128 bt from 128 bt, but in opensuse, all i can see is 128 bt or 64/128 ascii. Also I m unable to play mp3 songs in opensuse.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI've just installed openSUSE 11.3 for the first time on a Dell E1505 notebook and am having problems connecting to my home wireless network. Using the Network Manager I've been able to find my home network and connect after entering the network password. After a minute or two the wireless network is still shown as active but their is no connection (websites will not load).
I'm completely new to Linux so I have almost no clue what could be causing this. I have tried connecting the notebook hardwired (Ethernet) to the router and get a perfect connection if that information helps any.

First time Ive had this happen, other distro's Ive experimented with connected with no problems. Here at my university, on any major linux distro, I can only connect to the secure wifi 50% of the time and when I do successfully connect, it get booted off in a few minutes. At home I can connect to my WEP internet network easily.
Using Windows I can connect to my home WEP network and my university's WPA2 Enterprise network easily. Note: I work at the computing department here at my university, so I know that there is no anti-Linux mentaility which resticts access to Linux-based distros.)
I just loaded Suse 11.3 on my laptop. I can't get my wireless network to work. I tried via Yast and then switched back to Network Manager but nothing works.NM says that it is running, however I have no way to access it. No icon and I don't know where it is located or how to add to desktop panel.

Now it's finally working and Networkmanager can see my local wireless network. Problem is when I try to connect and it asks for the wep key, the encryption I'm using is not an option.
My network uses a 64 bit ASCII passphrase. My options when connecting are:
None of these seem to be right for my network and, consequently, none of them work.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm running Squeeze and I'm looking 3 days now for a solution in some weird problem. The NetworkManager Applet shows that there isn't connection although I am connected. The icon has this small "x" and when mouseover it says "No network conncection". Moreover when left clicking it, it says
"Wired Network Device not managed"
While I was looking for the solution a came across this post by an Ubuntu developer who says:network-manager-applet displays the connectivity state of network-manager's managed interfaces not every interface. So the title "network manager says disconnected but is connected and working" is actually misleading. The interface is connected and working but not from network-manager's point of view since it is not managing the interface. Additionally, in Lucid now network-manager applet displays nothing now for non-managed interfaces so is less misleading. You can check to see whether or not an interface is managed by network-manager by using the command line too nm-tool. You'll see "State: unmanaged" for unmanaged interfaces.
I am experiencing troubles when connecting to my new private network under Linux (works fine with Windows). I cannot get an ip address and the logs tell me a bit more, but I would like to know how to proceed to resolve this issue. My network adapter is an Intel Wifi Link 5100 using the iwlagn driver. Connecting to other WEP APs usually works flawless, it's the first time my system won't connect at all to this particular WEP encrypted access point.

I seem to have somehow messed up my repositories and now NetworkManager isn't working.
I have two errors happening, which I'm sure are related. First of all, when I try to load knetworkmanager, I get the error:

knetworkmanager: error while loading shared libraries: libkminterminals.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Second of all, when I restart my computer, upon loading I get a message from Akondi Server Self-Test saying several databases failed. I've never seen this before, so I think fixing these errors would be best? Some of the errors are MySql failed, akondi not registered at dbus, etc.
Lastly, I don't have a wired connection so currently my machine has no internet. I'm using a second laptop to get necessary files and I transfer them with usb.
After reading and trying tons of tutorials and several OS reinstalls, I'm stuck trying to load wireless on my Dell Vostro 1400 laptop. Before you say search forums! I hurry to tell I did. No solution seems to work. WLAN chipset - Broadcom's BCM4311 / BCM 2050. 1st scenario - native CentOS 5.3 drivers Although CentOS recognize WLAN card and displays it's name correctly, neither network or NetworkManager sees any of wireless networks.
2nd scenario - Broadcom's drivers Most know Broadcom has released Linux drivers. I had some more luck with them than in 1st scenario although problems occur. After successfully compiling Kernel module, wireless networks are discovered and can be successfully connected but no pages load. It seems like DNS is not resolving at all and page loading timeouts instantly. Tested on TKIP-encrypted network.
I am having some trouble getting my computer to connect to my wireless network. There is a wireless icon in the system tray. When I click on the icon I get a list of SSIDs associated with available wireless networks. To connect to one of of those networks I move the cursor over the SSID, the SSID is then highlighted, I select the highlighted SSID, then my computer connects to the selected network.
Sometimes the SSID associated wth my wireless network does not show up on the list. Sometimes it does. Normally the SSIDs on the list are in bold lettering. When the SSID of my network does appear it is in shaded lettering. When I move the cursor over the SSID it is not highlighted and I cannot select it. So you see it is not possible for me to select the SSID of my network and connect to my network.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI find that the new KDE4 notification icon is not very easy to see.The "progress" indication is a microscopic vertical progress bar, that I find very difficult to interpret.OK, it is a minor annoyance, but I do find that I regularly try to use the network on my laptop before the connection has been established.It is also a regression over the icons in 11.1 or before, which were very clear.If people agree with me on this point, I will post a bug, with the aim of getting a clearer icon.

When I use NetworkManager, WPA or WPA2 are not an option. I'm give four encryption methods (WEP 40, WEP 128, LEAP and Dynamic 801.x) Is this a problem with my Thinkpad T23's 802.11b wireless card? Do I need to install a patch?
