OpenSUSE Wireless :: Cdma Mobile Broadband Connection?
Aug 4, 2010
I need help with connecting to cdma mobile broadband for a tethered samsung phone. When I first installed Suse the phone icon on the network manager icon was all i needed to do to connect to the cdma network. After rebooting later the icon is gone and i cannot manage to connect. The connection is still there, but it is as if the computer no longer recognizes my phone as a modem. Well sense i just installed i figured lets try reinstalling to see if it was a bad installation. It happened exactly the same again. If anyone has any idea how to get network manager to allow me to connect to the internet again i would be grateful.
specs:
toshiba satilleite l305
Suse 11.3
Samsung R560 (Samsung Cdma Technologies)

I'm using a 'ice.net' D-50 (CDMA EV-DO rev A) mobile broadband USB modem, also sold as Cmotech CNU-680 in other areas. The modem is connected to a USB port on a hp8710w mobile workstation.
As the 11.2 Gnome Network Manager won't connect this modem to Internet (see my first post here), I have downloaded and installed a 'D50 Modem Manager program' from [url]
After unpacking and installing this cmotech-qtmodem-1.6-1.i586.rpm package for suse on 11.2 x86_64, the gui application 'D-50 Modem Manager' is found in the Internet Group.
However, neither this program does connect the D-50 modem really on 11.2 x86_64 (as it did on 11.1 x86_64). Tried both traditional network setup and with Network Manager.
Any idea and suggestion how to trobleshoot this further? I think I've seen that a newer version cmotech-qtmodem 1.9 has been mentioned on the web, but without being able to find and download this version.
Command output as follows:
As normal user:
On the Modem Manager gui: D-50 modem is ready
From Login script Debug window:
As root:
It seemed like the modem connected, but Firefox was not able to connect afterwards (Server not found)

I tried at Fedora 10, didn't work, and then Ubuntu 9.0.4, in the hope of it may work, my CDMA 1x Mobile broadband.( it works well under Win XP). and it didn't work. And then it comes the Fedora 11, still the same problem.
Seems Linux cannot recoginize my CMDA 1x Mobile Bbroadband, becuase the newwork manager doesn't pop up with messages of detecting a new hardware.
And when I run the desmeg:

I connect to the internet with a mobile broadband dongle. I would like to change the dns settings as page loading seems to be running slow. However, there is no ip tab associated with mobile broadband in the knetwork manager module. There is however for my vpn connection. I have found reference to the ip tab in other postings but alas I am stumped. Is it possible that the mobile broadband connection does not load that tab whereas users on wireless or ethernet have it? That is the only solution I can think of.

I have a Huawei E173u-2 mobile broadband usb stick. It is recognised as a gsm-modem and shows up as such in the networkManager-plasmoid. I have set up the connection details for my ISP (O2), but I can't connect. When I click on the connection, "signal strength" is shown as well as "operator" (o2 - de). The "connection state" changes to "Preparing to connect", then "Setting network address". Then the modem vanishes and comes up again a few seconds later.
Here is the log (/var/log/messages):
Code:
It seems like there is a connection for about 5 seconds, then the modem hangs up and restarts .
The stick works fine with our windows netbook, so I don't think it is a hardware failure.
How do I get this working?
My system:
opensuse 11.4
kernel 2.6.39-30-desktop (2.6.38 gives the same error)
kde 4.6.3
plasmoid-networkmanagement 0.9.svn1192577-168.6

I am trying to use the HUAWEI E1756C USB stick to connect to the internet. Installing usb_modeswitch and usb_modeswitch-data allowed networkmanager to "recognize" the stick and set up a mobile broadband connection.
The result is that NM succeeded in connecting (one of every five attempts) but firefox does not surf, nor emails can be downloaded etc. Just like if not being connected. The USB modem shows the steady blue LED as connected.
A NM issue? I have tried disabling NM control and tried with PPP clients like NMTSMON, wvdial and even Sakis3g. All with the same results. They seem to connect and show flux up and downloaded but no surfing.
resolf.conf shows is pretty much empty and no DNS there.
The working settings in Window$ are:
Same settings with Sakis3G, or NMTSMON or NM result in connection with no action from applications that use the internet.
I have had a similar issue with WLAN each time I change to a different network. I solve that by forcing to update the DHCP. I mean using -su dhcpd wlan0
But attempts like dhcpcd ttyUSB0 or dhcpcd ttyS0 get the same result. So no idea if this is an DHCP, or DNS or another issue.
My box is an ASUS EEEPC 2005H netbook with OpenSuSE 11.2 and KDE

I'm having problems with my mobile connection. This has been working fine for months, but in the past few days it has connected OK, I've been able to transfer data, but after 30s the connection closes. Setup is Acer AA1 with F12 connecting via bluetooth to Nokia 3110c on O2.
So to try and figure out what's happening I put the bluetooth dongle in my desktop PC, also running F12, made a connection and again it dropped out after 30s. Then I fired up windows on the AA1 and made a connection using the same dongle, this time it held up OK. This leads me to think that something has changed recently in F12 to upset it.

In the last week I have noticed that sometimes my Mobile Broadband connection just goes off without me doing anything! I have credit on the dongle account, so it isn't that. I'm using fedora 14 on an acer aspire one netbook. Dongle is a Huawei E160 on o2 here in the UK Kernel is 2.6.35.11-83.i686.fc14
Sometimes unplugging and replugging the usb dongle works. Othertimes, I have to leave it out for several hours. It does seem to happen daily, though.

I have a strange problem with my mobile broadband connection. I hope I am not the only one (so it will be fixed), but since I haven't found any others having the same problem yet, I am not so confident.I started using mobile broadband, via a HUAWEI E1762 HSPA USB stick since Jaunty. I've had the same problem in jaunty as I do now in Karmic. Although in Karmic, i've had additional problems (that problem i've found listed as a known bug). The problem is that when I get my mobile broadband to connect, it is sometimes, somehow, not fully connected. Symptoms are as follows:
1. panel icon shows connected and good strength (good)
2. skype connects, and I can chat and voip (good)
3. ping does not work (bad)

i recently installed ubuntu 10.04 in my laptop. everything is working fine except for my mobile broadband connection. i use a huawei ec1260 USB 3g modem to connect to the net. the OS detects the modem fine and the network manger applet prompts me to set up the connection as well i.e entering the username, password, number to be dialled etc. however when i actually try to dial the connection the applet icon flashes for a long while and a notification pops up saying connection disconnected. has anyone come across same kind of problem and solutions, if any.
Earlier i used the same modem in in karmic i was able to connect to net and even now i am able to connect using the modem in windows 7 as well

i downloaded ubuntu 10.10 for learning purpose. All goes well, i installed it successfully. The problem which i face is that when i connected my mobile broadband device, ubuntu detects it and i have succesfully made the connection. But the network Manager is showing "disable" Mobile Broadband connection. I tried to put a check on Enable Mobile Broadband but can't check it. So i can't access Internet in ubuntu. I think some offline package installation should be there to resolve the problem, or some console commands. I tried to use the (wvdial) which i use at Backtrack. but i think ubuntu did not have.

I have discovered that my ISP drops down my mobile broadband connection specially at night. It is a very annoying fact because this type of net access is not cheap at all. I am using Fedora 14 newest core. I am able to configure Network Manager to automatically connect, but... this option does not solve the redialing issue.
Is there any way to set up redialing a dropped mobile broadband connection? A perl or python script, may be?

I just installed Fedora 11 (excellent work by the Fedora team!) and got my Verizon mobile USB CDMA device working after some file modifications (easily found via searching).
I have to click the network icon in the task bar, and select "Auto Mobile Broadband (CDMA) Connection" to get it to connect though. It then shows up via "ifconfig" as ppp0 and all is good.
But how do I get this to auto-start when the system reboots? It doesn't show up in the network manager, and I'm not even sure how to use command-line to start up the CDMA connection! I only can do it via clicking that icon.

I just installed Ubuntu a few days ago and am loving it so far. There is, however, one huge problem which is spoiling all my fun: I can't access my gmail.
I'm using a Huawei E220 USB modem with T-Mobile UK. Plugged it in and was very impressed when I could set up my connection with minimal fuss. When I try to load gmail though, I get stuck with the statusbar saying 'Waiting for www.google.com...'. All other sites work fine (including google.com), and I don't get this problem when connecting though the Web 'n' Walk software in Windows XP. Has anyone got any ideas on how I can start working this out?

I am having problems with my 3 dongle- when I connect it to my netbook it flashes green so it detects a 3G network. However there is nothing in network manager enabling me to choose the mobile broadband so I can't use it. I know there should be an entry "mobile broadband" after the wireless networks listed.
I know the dongle works because I have previously used it successfully- I was using Linux Mint 8 and have now updated to version 9 and when I have tried to use it have been unable to do so.
I have gone into the connections and my 3 connection is present but there is no way for me to select it in network manager.

But i am not able to access internet. After some time software shows device is in sleep mode due to inactivity. Network connectivity icon on launch panel on fedora shows network is connected.I had similar problem with Mandriva 10..

I am looking for information on how to set up my laptop (running ubuntu 10.04) as a wireless access point for other wireless computers, through a mobile broadband usb device. My reason for wanting to do this: i have a mobile broadband verizon usb device for connecting to the internet when a regular wifi connection is not available. however, my wife does not, and it would be nice if she could use her wifi to connect to my laptop wifi and subsequently share my mobile broadband connection. Independently, I have no problems with wireless connectivity using wifi or mobile broadband, I am simply unable to figure out how to configure the two to work together in such a way as to create a wireless access point via my laptop.

I've been trying to get a USB modem stick to work with Karmic. The modem is the ZTE MF626 HSDPA on a Telstra Next G plan.I've followed all the guides and links on the forums:Have deactivated the CD autorun on the USB stick in XP lsusb is showing "Bus 002 Device 003:ID 19d2:0031 ONDA Communication S.p.A." demsg is showing "usb 2-2: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB1"This seems stable as well, ie checking periodically it doesn't seem to be disconnecting By the way,the blue light indicating network communication/modem active lights up after the device has been plugged in for a second or so.
When I go through Network Connections and add a new mobile broadband connection, there is nothing listed in the "Create a connection for this mobile broadband device" drop-down on the first configuration screen - all the guides I've read say that it should be listed here, but none say any debug steps if it doesn't.Some other guides for older versions of Ubuntu and earlier versions of the modem reference a "/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/20thirdparty/20-zte-mf626.fdi"file which I don't have.
