THIS NEVER HAPPENED WHILE RUNNING WINDOWS VISTA OR WINDOWS XP. First icons will disapear and text will not work, images wont be there, system dock and explorer will just not work, the start menu will have nothing in it, and when i restart it, (manual) it will boot and show me specs and say "NO OPERATING SYSTEM FOUND" and when i go into BIOS it says IDE0:_______ not the hard drive name and size like it usually does.

Ubuntu :: Text, Menu And Icons Backgrounds Are Turquoise?

Aug 23, 2011

This is really annoying. In every X application (except xemacs) the text is written on a turquoise background. I can't find any information about making the text appear on the same colour as the background -- eg. if the text is a menu on the window, it should be on a grey background. If on a white screen then white. It is turquoise everywhere!

Fedora Installation :: Failure To Start X / Text Install Work Around

Jun 25, 2009

I'm running a P4 system with Dual ATI Radeon 2900HD Graphics cards. When I try to install F11, the graphical interface fails to start and I end up in a text install. I've seen plenty of information on how to fix the problem post install, however I'm not nearly advanced enough to then continue the installation (the text install does not install much, particularly doesn't install the graphical interface). Is there a way to work around this (IE a more complete text install, or somehow getting it to install in graphical user interface?)

The icons remain, do I need to re-install wine again, uninstall the application then uninstall wine? The file that held the application I deleted, first because I had a brain fade.

Nothing I tried would let me put it to the way it was(50gb to linux). Repair install failed. Update wouldn't work. MSwindows in the grub boot menu disappeared. I tried reinstalling suse. The installer blocked any attempt by me to put the partitions back to normal. How do reset the windows and linux partitions(850gb windows, 50gb to suse linux)?

Debian :: Some Of The Icons On The Desktop Changed And All Of The Icons In The Drop Down Menu On The Bar At The Top Of The Screen Also Changed?

Jun 19, 2010

I recently installed virtual box on debian and after it had finished my terminal informed me that I could remove some "unnecessary" software by use of sudo apt-get autoremove. When I did this, some of the icons on the desktop changed and all of the icons in the drop down menu on the bar at the top of the screen also changed to ordinary folder symbols. The theme that I was using also went away. I restarted the computer and it booted back into a shell prompt with no GUI. I tried to get back to the GUI using alt+f7 but it didn't seem to exist

General :: Internet Explorer Not Downloading Files From System Server / Work Around This?

Jan 27, 2010

I have a very simple php web application deployed on linux (centOS4) machine. It creates a file and stores the file in /tmp folder on my linux machine. The path for this file is specified in the href attribute of the link. Ideally when we click this link the download manager should pop up so that the file can be downloaded on client machine.
When i access this website remotely from my window xp machine on firefox it downloads the file properly but when i run on internet explorer (i have IE7 on my windows XP) and click the link, the download manager does'nt pop's up. even when i right-click that link and select save as, an error message pop's up saying "file path not found". possibly IE is not able to determine the linux file path .so how do i work around this. is there some specific way for specifying the linux file paths to be downloaded by IE?

General :: Replace DVD / CD Install Images With USB Images

Sep 21, 2009

I am just spent half an hour hunting for a thing that should be totally available already:USB install images of Ubuntu, knoppix and all the others.And, the only good way are so far complicated tutorials where you extract the stuff from an CD image. Why??Hasn't everybody notices that CDs/DVDs are vanishing big time? That more and more systems don't have the readers anymore? Instead of following a 10 point instruction list, it would be nice to just be able to download a Ubuntu 8.10 or whatever USB image and be able to beam that DIRECTLY to a USB stick with a dd command.

Or am a missing something here? Does this exist?It should by no means be mariginal, considering how important USB stick in specific and flash memory in general have become.

OpenSUSE Install :: Creating Ghost Images Of Partitions?

Jan 19, 2010

I have been using GHOST for quite a few years to back up my Windoze partitions from NTFS to a series of images on a fat32 partition. I usually boot off a DOS7 bootable CD and simply ghost over to the fat32 partition.

I am rebuilding my laptops and desktops to dual boot Windows7 and Suse 11.2

My goal is to create restore images from my NTFS and ext3 partitions into directories on the fat32 partition for a restoration to my "gold baseline" build after any corruption.

My partition layout is below. This is output from gdisk.exe in DOS7. It's an 80gig drive.

1 = Windows-7
2 = /boot
3 = swap
5 = /
6 = /fat32

Fedora :: Print Images From Context Menu

Sep 21, 2010

I have special permission from the management to stimulate my colleagues to learn Linux - er, Fedora. So I'm dual booting a few machines for them to toy around with. However, all of the popular things of course have to work easily, otherwise there's no convincing them..Almost everything has been arranged, except for an easy way to bulk-print pictures onto A4. I have probably missed it but google doesn't help, this forum doesn't give me too much that I can find.

I did find gpp (Gnome Photo Print) but that is still too complicated. I need to be able to either get it directly from the nautilus context menu, or set the gui so that this app is automatically used when viewing images in a memory card. And then it has to be easy to print.

Has anyone successfully got Explorer 7 or 8 working on 11.1? If so can you let me know how you did it?
