I was still using Ubuntu 9.04, and I decided to upgrade up to 10.04. Upgrading to Karmic was no problem but then I tried to upgrade to Lucid and I always get the message "Can't download release notes", I also cannot upgrade from the command line (is 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' discontinued?). I've tried several mirrors during the last couple of days but still I can't get it to work.

My internet connection is fine on that machine, I just updated packages on it seconds before I saw 11.04 was available and can also browse and such
I've ensured that all current 9.10 updates have been installed, then tried to upgrade to 10.04.The message "Unable to download release notes - please check your internet connection" appears.Clearly my internet connection is working.I have had problems with Network Manager in the past (it is less problematic recently - see bug #481432 for details).If so, how do I get the upgrade started?

I can see no reason why centos-relese-notes should depend on centos-release when I try "yum erase centos-release-notes" I am told there are 72 dependancies including completely irrelevant packages such as tar all because of this unnecessary dependancy.
The centos-release-notes package simply contains a bunch of text/html files that nothing else relies upon, so why the dependancies ?
Can anyone tell me what names the tomboy notes application gives to its notebooks and notes? Not the file format (xml) I found that on the web, but the filenames and directory where it stores things.

About a couple of days ago I'm sure I saw that Open Office was offering a DVD file download of their latest version. It was including versions for Win. Mac and Linux all on the one DVD. Now, after buying a DVD burner for my 'puter, I have been unable to find that information again.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI tried to install Lotus Notes 8.5.2 (deb package) on Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit. Unfortunately, Lotus is not able to complete the installation! I googled and I found a guide on IBM forum (but for 10.04 release) and on [URL], I installed required dependencies (ia32lib, all getlibs, ecc) but I am not able to continue the installation. I tried to install in different Ubuntu release. Here a summury:
- Ubuntu 10.10 64 bit: Lotus Notes and FP2 install and works fine
- Ubuntu 11.04 32 bit: Lotus Notes and FP2 install and works fine (also in Unity environment)
- Ubuntu 11.04 64 bit: Lotus Notes cannot install.

I install Lotus Notes 8.0.1 on Karmic Ubuntu 9.10, the setup is successfully. However, the mail could not show correctly. the Home shows blank. The mail address could not show for each mail. And some html mail could not show at all.Below are the console output.

Here at home I have several Ubuntu installations, mine, the kids computers and a couple of laptops. What I'm looking for is a solution or a pointer in the right direction to setup on our local Ubuntu server a sort of cache. Each day each Ubuntu on the network, checks for updates and downloads, and installs. What I'm looking for is a way for one machine to download the update and then the others to download from the local resource.
A sort of local cache to try and minimise everyone downloading straight from the net for pretty much the same updates. I did a emerge cache many years ago when I was using Gentoo, so I'm wondering what I can use/do here with Ubuntu as we are all loving this distro now.
Is there a functional equivalent to xcode for the new Lucid Lynx release of Ubuntu (10.04)? I'm just beginning to write a IPHONE app and require a proper IDE, but don't want to use mac os.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI downloaded the latest release, burned a disk and successfully booted. When it comes time to choose a partition I don't have the option of replacing the old release. I can install in parallel leaving both but can't use the whole disk. Interestingly enough I CAN replace the windows installation. Of course I already have Grub installed but I don't see how this would affect installing. I read the article here [URL] and it seems I may have missed a step. However it's implied I will lose the current Grub installation. Is that the case?

View 5 Replies View RelatedThe Ubuntu website doesn't include the md5 checksums for the current 10.04 matrix. The forum announcement thread also makes no mention of these checksums. That means servers could be distributing defective isos and on day one, that could mean tens of thousands of downloads could be defective. I have to say that md5sums have been a mainstay of Linux ISO distribution for a decade, this despite whatever flaws one might find in it, yet for the last few releases of U, md5sum data are the hardest data to locate on the Ubuntu website, and on release day, they are critical.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI used ubuntu since v.6 & it runs perfect with my machine Toshiba laptop SatelliteM70 I use ubuntu multi boot with XP Home individual portion , I used startupmanager to control the boot option except last v.10.4 LT it drives me crazy I upgrade from distribution 9.04 the 9.10 then troubles started I never able to burn v.9.10 into a CD or DVD always stuck with the phrase try to burn the ISO with lower speed the CD ejected with out completing of burning process then I had to make upgrade through ubuntu update .
The other problem pups up eventually with v10.04LT had upgraded from 9.10 & after full update to 9.10 & switch to 10.01LT through new upgrade available.Rebooted the System , I had the boot option when I select ubuntu it boots fine ,but ubuntu logo blinks for less than one second goes directly to terminal black screen with prompt commands no Gnome it asks me to login then password & the same user & password I used before upgrading I tried many things to have the boot selection like before but no use only through Telnet commands screen .
I have the Ubuntu 10.04 beta, though It isn't the most stable,how can I upgrade, without having to burn a cd, from the Ubuntu 10.04 beta, to the Ubuntu 10.04 stable release?

Anyway, I have an old computer and would like to get the most out of it. I am running 10.10 right now, and would like to downgrade to Warty Warthog, which I used a few years ago, and seemed fast. It's older, so it can be lighter on the resources than 10.10 I suppose. Anyway, I cant find it anywhere. Also, I'll need installation instructions since it is probably pretty heard to install.

I deploy into an environment that for "security" reasons cannot be kept up to date with wherever the ubuntu archive is up to (with awareness that this is avoiding security updates...). It is a sealed system not connected to the internet. I'm working with the 8.04.1 LTS, and my customer is in an 'if it ain't broke don't change it' frame of mind w.r.t. moving to 8.04.4. My main problem comes in two variations: 1. Some packages my runtime system depends on are not distributed on the 8.04.1 DVD, but were available in the full ubuntu archive at the time of the point release (and still are, in an up-to-date form). My concern is that if I take the 8.04.4-ish version of a package it will not work correctly with an otherwise 8.04.1 system. In general I am expecting that it *might*, and the versioned dependencies it has on other packages will be loose enough. 2. Some packages my build system (which produces what I put onto the runtime system) depend on are also not on the DVD. So almost a repeat of 1 above, except that I am generally running afoul of strictly-versioned dependencies (the -dev version of a lib package depends on the matching lib package having exactly the same version). If the non-dev lib package is on the DVD, but is not the same version as the -dev package I have from an archive mirror taken just before the 8.04.1 release, I believe I'm screwed?
So my two questions are: a. Is there such a thing as a copy of the full ubuntu archive taken at the exact time the 8.04.1 LTS was released? I think that would solve most of my problems.
I'm fed up with Gentoo and would like to migrate to Ubuntu. I just installed 10.04 Beta, but I'm wondering if I should continue configuring my system. Is it possible/easy/painless to upgrade to the release version when it comes out? Or should I stop investing any work into the beta right now and wait for the release?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI installed the RC of Lucid on an old AMD X2 5600 w/4GB DDR2 ram, and put it in the other room and installed LAMP on it to use as a local development server. It works beautifully over the network.
1. There will be an upgrade option to go from RC to final release, right?
2. When upgrading, will this kill my LAMP install? I really don't wanna go from scratch now that I have it all up and running with a load of CMS systems installed for test environments
I just had a look on the Virtualbox site and thus far there is no listing for a Lucid specific release.Can I use the Karmic release or is this going to cause problems? I don't want to use the Ubuntu OSE version because I need USB support.
