View 9 Replies View RelatedI need to somehow do a yum installation (or equivalent of) on a system that is offline with no access to the internet. (I do have access to another Linux system that has internet access, but the Linux installations on both systems have different packages installed and enabled.)
Let's say the command to enter is 'yum install pkg1 pkg2 pkg3' (the documentation for some applications I need indicate the installation instructions this way, and not as the actual RPMs I need). Is there a way for me to run that on my offline system?
e.g. one way I can think of is to run that command on the online system, somehow if possible take note of what RPMs get installed, then transfer them to the offline system via USB and install all the RPMs via rpm command.
The problem with my above idea is that the two systems have different packages enabled, so even if yum on the online system shows a few dependencies being downloaded, I could run download and install all these RPMs and their dependencies on the offline system only to find several more missing dependencies, and dependencies of those dependencies.
I have Debien 7.8 Wheezy installed on my laptop, along with the GNOME desktop. As I absolutely hate the new GNOME layout I want to install MATE so I can get the classic GNOME 2 desktop back. But I have no internet connection here at home (I only have my phone for internet and I can't tether it).
So I'm wondering if it's possible for me to download all the packages and install MATE offline? I don't even know what all the packages are that I need.I can download the packages with my phone with no issue.
I installed Debian on my laptop with the Debian DVDs in case you were wondering. when I downloaded the Debian DVD ISOs, I only saw three ISO files, but the documentation said that it's a 10 DVD set. What happened to the other 7 DVD ISOs?
I have an offline Ubuntu 10.10 install at another house, i cannot bring it to this house to install the software I need. I would like to install a program which can convert a CD to MP3 files. Can anyone tell me how i cant get this software onto a USB and then how i can install it when I take it to the other computer? EDIT: The computer with internet acccess is Windows 7 not Ubuntu!
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have just installed ubuntu on my machine which doesn't have Internet. I can access the net on my laptop and copy any files over. I am wanting to install blueman to tether my iPhone. I cannot find a .deb of it, so downloaded the tar.gz but the stock install doesnt have a compiler. I could download and copy over a compiler, but I'm guessing I'm going to be here hours copying over each dependancy that I come across (I'm guessing there may be a few) how I can tether my iPhone or how I can install blueman? Does anyone know of any pre-built packages I can just copy n install?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI downloaded some rpm files from rpmfusion.org to my computer using my Windows Vista OS. I then moved the files to the partition where Fedora is installed. When I ran the files on the terminal using the rpm command, it showed a lot of errors like: xyz needs abc.. and so on. How then can I install softwares and codecs on my computer without being online? I don't have screenshots right now.

View 7 Replies View RelatedLook I have just installed suse 11.2 KDE at 32 bit. Now I need to get all the drivers and codecs to work properly. So I can download using yast and a bunch of repository urls. If Im wrong please correct me. My internet connection is one of those 3g HSDPA connections so I usually connect a usb modem to my computer (Huawei e220). I've googled around and from my understanding, I need to download an application called kinternet. However kinternet has naturally got dependencies and those dependencies also have dependencies and so on... I'm assuming this tree is pretty massive given the fact that I installed via live CD, the question thatbeckons is how do I download kinternet along with all known dependencies...wait for it.... in WINDOWS??? is it possible or do I have to hunt down every single dependency?? the idea is to get these rpms install them manually on my PC in order to get my modem working on the freshly installed system and perform any future updating using yast on that system with my 3g modem.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a couple of nfs shares which I configured through the yast NFS client module. It entered these in my fstab file to start on bootup. A sample entry is:
10.2.1.30:/home/opt/Cindy/homenfsdefaults 0 0
As long as the foreign computer is online all is well. If the foreign computer is taken off line, soon after KDE applications such as Dolphin and the panel freeze, even if I am not using the shares. When the foreign computer comes online again, everything unfreezes on my computer and works fine. Likewise, if the other computer is not online when I boot, there is a long delay while the system waits for the share to come up. Is there something in my configuration that I can change to stop either or both of these problems? I am running 11.4 x86_64 on a wired network with static ip addresses.
I downloaded and installed the newest version of Fedora, version 15, in my refurbished computer. It's the CD version; so much of the stuff are missing, including an office suite. I didn't have a DVD-ROM drive on the system, thus I installed the CD version. On the CD version, I was displeased that I can't install Samba offline; I had to download it. Don't ask me why I don't want to download it, it's just my preference to be able to have a basic computer function like Samba on an official distribution, like a calculator, an office suite (again, was left out), and a file manager.
Fedora's website describes the DVD edition of the operating system as having more software than the CD version. Now, for those who have used the new Fedora and also used Samba, does it come installed, or do you have to go online to download it? I understand if you don't want MP3s or DVD decryption software, but how does LAN file-sharing count as something that's illegal?
I just installed ubuntu server 9.04. Now i wanna install GUI on that such as Xinit, and others, theni stuck because i wannna install it without connection (from source / offline).

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a laptop on a wireless network in a apartment building, but the server is in the manager's office, the signal is real good. I also have a desktop with no wireless or wired connection. My question is how do I transfer my apps from my laptop to my desktop in offline mode?
I don't want to install a wireless card for my desktop. Is there a way to install synaptic while offline? Or is there a way to install these apps from a flash drive to my desktop, if so how would I do that?
is there a way to get urls of the packages that have been updated and then download them in another computer? like this feature of ubuntu HOWTO: Download package dependencies for offline installation - Ubuntu Forums
its a simple feature and its present in smart and synaptic, yet its not in yast (or i havent found it yet.
i would use smart package manager but in my home connection for checking for updates ,yast is better ( smart downloads filelist.xml.gz that is very way biger than what yast downloads (though it enables smart to show filelist of package BEFORE installing) .so at home i can check for package update with yast ,buy downloading them is very hard. (my connectioon is very bad (i live in iran) and yast mirrors are NOT the best of servers ,so yast gets interrupted in middle downloading a rpm and the whole process is waiting for me to press retry ,so i cant do updates and installs overnight.btw is there some way to tell it to retry always or a number of times automatically? )
i need the url links of rpms so i download them separately and install them.
i installed smeegol out of curiosity. and i am planning on keeping it installed as a alternative desktop. so "get rid of smeegol" is not an acceptable answer to my question. my question is also not so much about how can i turn this behaviour off but i wanna understand whats going on. here it is:when i log out of kde and start smeegol i am in offline mode per default. now thats unconfortable but i can live with it. what is however very weired and this is what the question is all about: when i leave smeegol with
init 3
init 5
and i start kde again my network manager doesnt start properly. i tried switching to traditional and switching back. still not working i tried killing the processes and restarting them still not working. i tried restarting my hole pc (i know stupid but it was a desperate move) still not working i tried a dozen other things that are even more desperate the only thing that got my network working again was starting smeegol again and switching to online mode
then ctrl + alt + backspace
and back into kde
suddenly i am online again
this is confusing how can smeegol my network manager up that hard that even a restart wont get it connected.
My suse 11.2 has auto login. How to change to login password to keep the kids off my computer, and offline.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently bought a monthful of Spotify Premium to enjoy music at the school with my laptop and Nokia E71 with the offline mode - the WiFi at our school is too laggy to stream online music. Under wine, it works quite fine, however, I would totally like to use the native client (yes, I'm too a "yay linux" person like all of you here ), but the music quality is very poor on offline mode. It clips, goes forward, a second back, then back forward etc. The bitrate sounds to be high, an the quality is very good except the annoying clipping.
Anyone else experiencing this? I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 Beta release with Samsung N510 so the cpu power should not be an issue even though the native client uses the resources very greedily. Interesting enough, on my desktop computer (Core2Quad @ 3,3GHz, 4GB 900MHz DDR2 RAM) with the same OS version and software plays offline playlists smoothly (only some occasional clipping)
I think I've installed MediWiki as you can see (I Just follow some steps from a site...)but whateveI done (Disabling SELinux) making /var/www/html/wiki/ and var/www/html/wiki/readable to my current user (even I make my regular user the owner of all directory and files in these folderes) but nothing happenthen according to some advice I changed the permission to 644 but I become worse and now I don't have the previous picture (on that at least the wiki theme could be seen sth ) but now I encountering this error message:
