Whenever i see a thread about 2d animation, i see cinepaint mentioned at least once. But the last time i used cinepaint, all i remember being able to do is .. paint and edit images. So is it a paint program? or an animation program? Also, I often see it advertised as something to touch up movies. Does that mean i can edit videos frame by frame?

I was trying to install Kamosa (a KDE Webcam App) from
Code:
https://projects.kde.org/projects/pl...a/kamosoKamaso
but it requires QtGstreamer (bindings to Gstreamer with a more Qt-ish syntax) from
Code:
freedesktop.org]freedesktop.org git repository browser
I am stuck trying to build QtGstreamer and get this message:
Code:
CMake Error: The following variables are used in this project, but they are set to NOTFOUND.
Please set them or make sure they are set and tested correctly in the CMake files:

I'm in love with my Opensuse 11.2. Love my KDE 4.4. The only thing I miss from my Ubuntu installation, is the ability to use Boxee. I would be more than willing to compile Boxee from source. I only have 2 problems with that:
1) I don't know where I can find all the build-deps or what they are for that matter to build Boxee.
2) I'm running on a Netbook. Yes, my measly Intel Atom is no fun for compiling and building.
What are my options/what can I do to get Boxee up and running on 11.2? I've tried searching on build service for an RPM, but I think due to legal restrictions, Boxee can't be on there.

I installed another net adapter in my tower, and I can see it from hardware information in YaST. But when I tried to use that card connect to internet, I got the message it not figured by DHCP.From my understanding, the new net card is not been used by my desktop under suse. Since I even can not see the device name of it and when I use ifconfig, I can not see any information of that net card too.The question is how I can active this device under suse?

Ever since i found out that there was something called cinepaint i've tried to install it. On their website it says that the debian version currently isn't stable, and therefore not released. I've tried their own CVS file, and costum files. Nothing so far works.

I used to open Rhythmbox and click on the playlist. Then I typed a song's name and the chosen song would appear highlighted on the playlist.
However, since I upgraded to Maverick when I repeat that same procedure Rhythmbox will search for an artist containing whatever I typed instead of a song's title containing it.
I want the old feature back. I don't know if I'm being clear...

I have recent started using Ubuntu 11.04, It works fine in general.
Though I miss to be able to use my webcamera, I guess the reason for this is that Ubuntu has a lack of drivers.
So my question is, Do anyone know where I can get webcam drivers for my inbuilt webcam in Acer aspire 7730g, Crystal Eye Webcamera?

So I just reboot and now, X is gone, and I'm in runlevel 3. What is wrong here?

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 on an old small form factor PC with an AMD Sempron 2400, 1GB RAM, and an nVidia 5200 graphics card 128MB. OK, so a low-spec machine (but that's the great thing about Linux right? Don't need high-end h/w) but it works just fine, except that it can't play full HD (1920x1080) MPEG-4 video. Very jerky and lots of dropped frames. Same in both Movie Player and VLC.
I can't afford to increase the RAM and as it's a SFF I can't just swap the mobo and CPU for something faster so I'm wondering whether getting a higher spec graphics card would make any difference?I'm using the nVidia proprietary binary driver (latest version) and searching the forums I found a post where someone said that the nVidia driver needs at least a 512MB card for HD video.A colleague has a higher spec nVidia card (7600 IIRC) that he'll sell me, but before I spend any money, is this likely to improve things? How much does the graphics card affect performance, or is it simply a case of the machine overall just isn't high enough spec?

However, installation always gets hung on Searching Linux partition step and I was able to see the vgscan process was the last command to run. Is it a known bug? Does anyone have the same issue as mine?

I've downloaded vlc 1.1.4.1.tar.bz2 from the internet, as I have problem using the 'sudo apt-get' command which is due to the fact that my USB Internet Modem provider didnt cared to make it compatible with Linux. I presently connect to internet using Nokia PC Suite [available only in Windows, as you all may know] to browse the net. Currently I've a dual-boot with Ubuntu 10.04 and Windows 7.
I tried building it by following the instructions in the INSTALL file, but it wont just work!

Is there a way to do this manually ? Any other options ? Widdling away at RPMs just got me a broken VM so I'll skip trying that again.

So I'm sitting on some components from my old pc build and am looking to stream over my tv once again. My decision rests on do I build the box, run Boxee and/or Windows Media Platform to keep the box with my TV or do I buy the 35ft RCA video cable and dvi composite out adapter for my video card and go that route? All my music and media is stored on a external backup drive so the box I build would not have access to the media unless I could create a wireless network but I do not know how to do this with Ubuntu. Anyone willing to hold my hand and help me walk through this to get a decision made?

Trying to install SW 13.1 (on DVD) on the following system: M/B Intel: DX38BT Processor Intel Core 2 Quad Q6700 - 2.66GHz, 8MB Cache, 1066MHz FSB, Socket 775 Memory Corsair Dual Channel 8192MB PC10600 DDR3 1333MHz Memory (4x2048MB) Graphics Diamond Radeon HD 3850 Video Card - Viper, 512MB GDDR3, PCI Express 2.0 P/S Ultra 1000W
My goal is to install the i386 build on one partition and the 64-bit build on another. I have been away from Linux for a while and am sick to death of Win7, want to come home. :-}
Booted on i386 side of DVD, system freezes after a couple of lines that start with ATA2. Does not respond to 3 finger salute, ctrl-c, nothing. Have to press reset. I have tried both huge.s and hugesmp.s kernels
Booted on 64-bit side, comes up fine. I performed the install, selected for automatic lilo install. Lilo install hung but I was able to reboot. I booted off the 64-bit side again, entered the following: huge.s root=/dev/sde3 rdinit= ro It booted fully to the login prompt but the keyboard does not work, no input.

I have been asked by a friend to install Linux on a Medion Akoya e1222. He is a Windows user and knows nothing about Linux, but has listened to what I have told him about the penguin. openSUSE 11.3 seems to work best on his netbook of the current systems, but I know almost nothing about SUSE, being a Debian/Ubuntu user myself. I am trying to install the following software, but am finding it difficult to locate.

I'm new to openSUSE, this is the first time i try to install openSUSE version 11.4. on my IBM Thinkpad T43 (on which SUSE Linux version 8.0 has been running before without problems). I have downloaded the ISO images and successfully burned the ISO images on a blank DVD. Having placed my openSUSE DVD in the drive and rebooted my laptop I can see the boot screen.
I then select installation with arrow up/down and press enter. Choosing language and keyboard layout works fine, as well as accepting the license agreement. However, when it comes to 'System Probing' the installation stops at 'Search for system files'. The cursor shows a little turning disk but the rest of the screen is blocked.

I am trying to build a media center for music for me and my roommates to use. Basically I want to build a system just for playing music. Idealy (dare i mention itunes in here) I would love a computer just just booted into itunes(orsomething like it (or better) that just was for playing music.
I plan on buying a computer, like a tiny desktop (i dont want to take up a lot of room) with a huge hard drive just for holding music, and needs usb drives/cd drive for loading music onto it (or just a usb drive). Then get a small screen, not huge with a remote that does not run on wife. Also would like a keyboard on the remote if possible.
Anywho whats a good media center, and can I boot just straight into the media center? I would like support for; browse by artist, album and just song name. Also I would like to be able to make playlist within it, and it needs to be able to support a massive amount of songs.
desktop computers to use for this project and remotes that I could use? Also how would you suggest the best way to go about doing this? I would love if it booted straight into the media player. Internet is not a huge deal to me, might connect to internet once just to grab album artwork. So a media player that auto fetches artwork too would also be nice.
