I figured out Remastersys, but I STILL don't get what goes in the /etc/skel/ folder BEFORE making the ISO, what folders specifically HAVE to go in there for it to work properly on a CD?
Newly installed Lucid and several programs to get it just the way I like it. I went to make a backup of the entire system with remastersys for the second time (first time was ok) but everytime it says iso file too big, which it is at 16gb plus. I have been through and double checked that my personnel files, pics, music, movies are all removed and my virtual machine. When checking with "Disk usage analyzer" it says I have 158.8GB free but when I check the home file system itself it says I have 150.1GB free. Note the missing 8.1GB. I believe this is the root of my inability to make a backup.
I installed another net adapter in my tower, and I can see it from hardware information in YaST. But when I tried to use that card connect to internet, I got the message it not figured by DHCP.From my understanding, the new net card is not been used by my desktop under suse. Since I even can not see the device name of it and when I use ifconfig, I can not see any information of that net card too.The question is how I can active this device under suse?
after about 30 min of trying to get the cinepaint-0.22-1.tar.gz to build on 11.3 64 bit i figured i would do some searching took about 15 min but new suse users won't have to figure out the posting in the suse forum archive ( 2007) Up-to-date Rpm For Cinepaint?
there IS a cinepaint for 11.3 add the repo Index of /repositories/home:/bekun/openSUSE_11.3 into yast / Software Repositories
I have remastersys backup on DVD but I have no idea how to restore. There is install option when I boot from DVD but it doesn't install anything to hard drive. It looks as if my system was loaded to memory or was run as LiveCD. In Nautilus I can see my original root and home partitions (I mean these on hard drive) as separate drives, not partitions. On remastersys website I didn't find any information.
I was wondering which direction I should look for creating a backup of a customized Ubuntu minimal installation without remastersys. This LiveCD will live inside my arcade cabinet, so I want to keep everything as minimal as possible and remastersys installs tons of dependencies.
i created an ubuntu live cd using the dist option in remastersys..but it is asking for username and password when i starta live session on boot..what is the username and password ?
I wanna make a LiveUSB backup with installation usb. The problem with remastersys is the 4gb limit. I have a 32gb usb stick so that is why I wanna do it this way instead. SO, is this possible, or is CD with remastersys the only solution?
i restored grub2 with renastersys grub tool and now i cant reach my system i tried to reinstall grub2 but it has not worked. When i try to open my computer grub restore tool comes out and i cant enter my system
I've installed Remastersys on my Dell Mini and created a custombackup.iso which which runs Ubuntu 10.04 perfectly from both CD and usb flashdrive.
However, since backing up my complete HDD a problem has arisen with my wireless connection and I now want to reinstall the cloned copy of my OS onto my HDD.
The question is: how? Whether I use Ubuntu's disk creator, unetbootin or penlinuxdrive, booting from the flashdrive does not offer me an 'install' option.
Lets say we want a unified custom distro of Ubuntu or Mint for a project and we all need the same tools, the same bookmarks, and some preconfigured accounts and IRC chat link......Is there a way to rebrand it easily with those tools? Can you using a different tools, like morphing morphix to mod something other than Morphix? Like using Morphix to remake a Ubuntu spinoff or using it to combine repositories from 2 different releases?
I know you can make a custom livecd using remastersys, but is there an app within Ubuntu that would perform the same function without having to install a third party app?
VirtualBox: So, with VB, testing out stuff without messing up your actual operating system (in my case Linux). (I had more to say but can't remember atm) Remastersys: Well, I think I MIGHT have a reason as to why Remastersys doesn't work for me. I think I might have downloaded the wrong repository thing. I downloaded:

I ask because of the word Lucid is in the sentence. What do you all think, should I un-install remastersys and downloaded the one with the word Lucid in it and see if that makes a difference as to whether the program makes a proper .iso file or not?
I installed opensuse 11.4 on a virtual box , made tweaks, edits, updates, installs, and I want to install it on a hard drive but I want to install it with all the tweaks/installs i made in virtualbox. There's a program in Ubuntu called Remastersys that will create an ISO with all the packages and updates already on the distro and I'm looking for something similar in OpenSUSE. Can it be done? Is there another route I can take that will create an iso out of all the software updates/installs thats I've made?
I downloaded Remastersys, and have made an ISO of my system. How do I remove stuff from it? It's too large to fit onto a CD, and I don't have a DVD-RW drive.
i feel like this is a stupid question as i have seen many different ways to make a debian live cd, but the only way i understand is remastersys.i am trying to make a snapshot of my own debian unstable (sid) to be capable of re-distribution. remastersys will ONLY work on ubuntu, lenny, and squeeze.if anyone knows of any relatively simple tools i could use or could write an easy how too that would be very much appreciated. i am attempting to stray away from ubuntu and ubuntu based distros and use debian instead, although i cant find any distribution based on debian that i really like (maybe linux mint debian edition based on debian testing), but i really want the software right out of unstable (sid) and i would like to be able to make a distribute-able snapshot for myself and others that may be interested. (xfce + compiz + others, hopefully plymouth, out of the box). i have made some very good headway on this, but i dont know how to make a live cd out of an installed system without remastersys.
I have a question about ext4,remastersys backup : I have upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 via the upgrade button in synaptics, so it means that the files system was not touched, which means that my system is still ext3 as it was when I installed the 9.04. I can make a backup of my system as it is configured right now (that's how i like it) using remastersys.
Can I install my system backup into my machine after formating it into ext4 or when I create a backup using remastersys it must stay in the files system as it was when it was backed up? The issue is that right now the 9.10 responds from some reason a little bit slower than my 9.04 responded (to everything e.g. open/close windows etc...) and I read in the forum that ext4 makes 9.10 run faster.
I have managed to work out how to use remastersys to create a Custom.iso LiveCD.
Can anyone advise how I can transfer a folder of documents, so they are included in the custom.iso?
I tried to put a new folder/docs inside the 'examples' folder, which shows up on the Desktop of LiveCD users, but this 'examples' folder is write-protected.
I installed Kubuntu 9-10 on my laptop. I used Remastersys to make a Backup Live DVD of my installation. I cannot install this Live DVD on other machine. It boots fine on other computer. I want to know how to install this Live DVD. What is the installer for kubuntu on the HD installation called?
Having downloaded remastersys, I tried to make a custom iso with mixed results.Whilst i got all my installed programs included, it didn't install my MacBuntu theme or cairo-dock by default. How can I manipulate remastersys to load MacBuntu and cairo-dock to launch when my custonm iso is booted?
I am trying to restore my system to Ubuntu 10.10, using a system backup made with REMASTERSYS. When I reboot, I get the message: GRUB error:15 I found many threads discussing this issue, most notably here: [URL]
I'm totally unable to play or mount audio CDs and unable to use video DVD's on my box right now. When I insert an audio CD I get a dialog box saying:
Unable to mount disc: Location is not mountable
and if I check messages in the Log File Viewer I see the following text repeated (save for the last line) a couple of dozen times.
Code:
May 24 13:04:37 Amber kernel: [ 6680.434685] sr 0:0:0:0: [sr0] Result: hostbyte=DID_OK driverbyte=DRIVER_SENSE May 24 13:04:37 Amber kernel: [ 6680.434691] sr 0:0:0:0: [sr0] Sense Key : Illegal Request [current] May 24 13:04:37 Amber kernel: [ 6680.434695] sr 0:0:0:0: [sr0] Add. on a similar but ultimately unrelated thread someone was asked to enter a few commands so I tried them and the following was the output:
Code:
main@Amber:~$ ls /dev/scd* /dev/scd0 main@Amber:~$ sudo mount /dev/cdrom /media/cdrom0
[code]...
An error occurred: Could not open location; you might not have permission to open the file. As far as I can tell I have the relevant CSS libraries installed I'm lost without being able to play CD's and DVD's on my system.
I cannot install Kubuntu (or Unbuntu) 10.4 on my husband's computer. I have spent 5 hours on this and cannot get anywhere. I am deeply frustrated. The iso I burned to CD is good (works on 2 other computers). His computer will not boot from USB, no matter what I do to the drive order in BIOS. After loading the blue screen with the Kubuntu logo on it (and the blue-white dots), the screen changes to black and shows the following text:
BusyBox v1.13.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.13.3-1ubuntu11) built-in shell (ash) (initrafs) Unable to find a medium containing a live file system.
He really needs to get rid of WinXP. Kubuntu is what I have on my computer (and love it!). Here is some info about his computer:
OS Name Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600 OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
I switch on the PC and it loads the Grub splash screen. However, it does not automatically boot the top entry after two seconds as it's supposed to and just hangs. I hit enter to boot it and it attempts to but after a few seconds gives me the error "unable to mount file system....a maintenance shell will be started"
This occurred after I was using it and then everything suddenly froze up on me and I had to crash out Now this!
