OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Error: Failed To Run /etc/alternatives/../../bin/java
May 17, 2010
I keep getting this error message, I did a search and didn't find a solution to my Java browser problems gcjwebplugin error: Failed to run /etc/alternatives/../../bin/java. For more detail rerun "firefox -g" in a terminal window.
I've opensuse 11.2 and I have all java packages installed, but Java Plugin for firefox doesn't work.I'm getting this error:
Code:
[B]gcjwebplugin error: Failed to run /etc/alternatives/../../bin/java. For more detail rerun "firefox -g" in a terminal window.
Code:
upiter@linux-yalp:~> firefox -g upiter@linux-yalp:~> gcjwebplugin error: Failed to run /etc/alternatives/../../bin/java. For more detail rerun "firefox -g" in a terminal window.
I use openSUSE 11.4 64 bits, KDE and FireFox 5.0. I regularly update. When trying to reach my bank, I get the following error: Code: icedteanp plugin error: Failed to run /usr/lib64/jvm/java-1.6.0-openjdk/jre/bin/java. For more detail rerun "firefox -g" in a terminal window. Is there anything I can do to remediate ? Does IcedTea everything that Java does?
Much as I enjoy having openjdk available, some things just don't work with it. So for those things, I need to use the sun version of java. I currently have openjdk installed from F11 yum. I'd like to install the sun java rpm and be able to tell the alternatives(8) system to switch between the two as I need to. How to configure alternatives(8) to do that?
I bought an iPod classic and am currently looking for alternatives to replace iTunes on openSUSE. As far as I understand the following are to be considered: Amarok, Banshee, Floola, gtkpod and Yamipod.
When the RPM runs it come up with this error. How do I install the required dependencies? I have added more repositories, but still there are a few dependencies missing. Is there a zypper/sudo -get or something available? Opensuse 11.1 Gnome
I am unable to rip from CD to .mp3 using pretty much any tool. Dolphin / Konqueror auidiocd:// KIO slave shows the mp3 folder, but when you move the tracks you get: Could not read some_song.mp3: encoding failed WARNING: libsndfile may ignore -r and perform fseek's on the input. Compile without libsndfile if this is a problem. I'm running 11.3 (KDE 4.4.4) with K3B 2 from Packman (with the k3b 2 codec package) and K3B fails as does the KIO slave method above. Lame version is: lame-3.98.4-2.pm.4.1.x86_64 Restricted multimedia formats packages are installed from Restricted formats/11.3 - openSUSE Community Wiki Alsa works great otherwise, I have no sound issue, etc. - just can't rip anything to mp3 Seems like I'm not the only one who has had this problem, there are a few posts here on the Suse Forum, and others elsewhere, but the resolution seems to be nebulous at best. Sometimes lame 3.98 from packman works for some guys, other times not, etc. Unable to rip an audio cd into mp3's using 11.2 - opensuse.opensuse.org - ArchiveOrange
Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: installing package xen-4.0.0_21091_06-0.1.1.x86_64 needs 27MB on the /boot filesystemI seem not to be able to change the size of the /boot, but 11.2 loads okay but not 11.3There only 19MB left from 66 and I can't make it bigger, I hope there is someone thathas seen this. I would like to see some of the update with XEN.
Today i upgraded my system and started getting error when i update, install or remove a package. The error isn't restricted only to one repository so i thing something is wrong with my system.

I upgraded a system from 10.3 to 11.4 and I get the following error when trying to run mysql:
Will update MySQL now, if you encounter any problems, please read following file: /usr/share/doc/packages/mysql-community-server/README.SuSE Log files inconsistency, please merge following files manually: /var/lib/mysql/mysqld.log /var/log/mysqld.log
How can I correct this? Mysql will not start so I can not run any of the utilities.
I'm running 11.2 KDE 4.3.5, recently every time I've tried to use the Updater Applet I get this error after choosing to install an update: PackageKit Error internal-error: Installation aborted by user. Then I run YaST to try to manually install the update and get the following error:
Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: error: package kwin-4.3.5-0.2.1.i586 is not installed. Really unsure how to fix this but it's only blocking updates/patches, I can download new programs fine.
Online Update is offered up 6 updates - only 2 succeeded (Mozilla and libpoppler). Here's the errors for other packages: kbd - Keyboard and Font Utilities (includes aaa_base update) Subprocess failed. Error: RPM failed: error: package kbd-1.14.1-20.2.x86_64 is not installed

There's a site where you can play classic NES games online without any installation, just need Java: nintendo8.com. But when selecting a game from the site's game list and it tries to load, I get this error: icedteanp plugin error: Failed to run /etc/alternatives/../../bin/java. For more detail rerun "firefox -g" in a terminal window.
I then ran "firefox -g" from terminal, tried again and got this log: ERROR: Invalid browser function table. Some functionality may be restricted. /usr/src/packages/BUILD/icedtea6-1.9.2/plugin/icedteanp/IcedTeaNPPlugin.cc:1506: thread 0x80935c0: Error: Failed to spawn applet viewer: Failed to execute child thread "/etc/alternatives/../../bin/java" (No such file or directory) I have Java up to date from its repository.
due to some issues i uninstalled openjdk shipped default on my opensuse 11.3 and installed jdk 1_6_21 from a .bin file. Its installed to usr/java/jdk.The mysql connector is also present in the same but running a java program that connects to mysql gives me the errorjava.sql.SQLException: Unknown initial character set index '192' received from server. Initial client character set can be forced via the 'characterEncoding' property.the code i tried is
import java.sql.*; import java.io.*; class mysql_conn_tester
Code: ~ $ /usr/java/jre1.6.0_25/bin/java -showversion Error occurred during initialization of VMjava/lang/NoClassDefFoundError: java/lang/Object
That's the error I get. When trying to run a java app with the firefox plugin, the browser simply crashes if it's the 64bit java or tells me it's not installed if it's the 32bit version.
I'm at a loss as to what to do. I think it has something to do with leftover gunk from a previous version I misinstalled(Is that even a word?) Anyway, the only thing that google could come up with was a solution for windows which laid blame on Bill Gates for having a bunch of pf (java prefetch) files stuffed into c:windows for no apparent reason. The solution was to delete them, but I can't seem to find the java prefetch folder in linux. The method I used is downloading the rpm from java.com the rpm2tgz then installpkg then cp libnpjp2.so to firefox plugins folder.
Are there any viable alternatives to mythtv? I find the setup to be very cumbersome and the keyboard interface is a poor second to Windows Media Player for a basic PVR system on a desktop computer.
Mythtv seems an overkill for what I require, just to simply watch TV using my DVB-T input and record shows when I'm away from home.
anyone of you know some good skype alternatives for ubuntu 10.04 ?by alternatives i don't mean something like gtalk where i can only use google account.some alternative where i can log in with my skype account like amsn, emesene, pidgin can log in using my msn account..
I want to do some amateur voice over works. I need an audio editor that can also play the video simultaneously to sync with the character's lip movements. The problem is my video sources are in h264 mkv, I guess it is not very friendly with many softwares.
Here's what I've searched (tried some of them too) and the results:LiVES -> can't compile with kernel 2.6.38, the offered patch (in sf) rejected (maybe different source file from the one specified in the patch)Cinerella, can't accept mkv or mp4. (after that I tried to get the source video loaded to Cinerella)x264, transcoding to lower the resolution -> no avi container output, sync problem with raw h264 stream outputavidemux_qt, trying to mux the transcoded video to avi -> crashed with h264 input video, either in elementary stream or matroska format (I doubt Cinerella will accept avi videos with h264 codec, if I could ever make one)ffmpeg, transcode from h264 to xvid -> shared library error: libavutil.so.49 not found xvidenc shell script -> no mencoder (I'm using mplayer2)
Some files are generating in my Documents folder named hs_err_pid4214.log ........ different logs files are generated. I've been Gnome user since I made switch from Ubuntu to Debian. But now I want to try xfce in Debian, but I do not know well what are alternatives for Gnome applications there. I haven't used xfce since Ubuntu 9.10 (Xubuntu).some alternatives for theese apps:
I think I'm ready to install Linux openSUSE physical on my Laptop. NO VMware Workstation anymore...But before I can do that I must be sure that Linux works on my System.--- SYSTEM ---
OK, should be enough for the first, ask if I forgot some Hardware...Because I can't find any driver, and I'm not sure. I'm a LINUX NOOOOOOOOOB!!I really want to install Linux openSUSE, I'm MICROSOFT/WINDOWS HATER since 1 month now!! PS: Wine can't start my favorite Programs like Project64 a N64 Emulator. It fails to start a game! I think the graphic plugin crashes... | The exact error message is: "Failed to extract ZIP Archive" or "Failed to load file".
I have a clean install of mythbuntu 10.10 and I am trying to get a DVB-T USB stick working for the last 2 weeks. Its a MobiDTV and it seems to have the same chipset/USB ID as EzCap_DVB_T_Stick. I followed the instructions on the [URL] and eventually got the driver compiled (I had to amend some code, change "Bool" pointers to "bool" and add a FIRMWARE MAX_NAME 30 constant). I also copied the af9035 FW file to the firmware directory.

I bought the hardware with Windows 7 MCE in mind. I have no Windows 7 disk so I installed Mythbuntu on it to see if build was solid and now I don't want Windows any more.
I would like to know if there exists an article explaining how update-alternatives integrates with Freedesktop.org MIME. How do these systems coexist? How do they cooperate? Lately KDE and GNOME apps seemed to agree on default applications more and more; it seems there still exists an ordering problem [URL] , section Default application ordering), but things are generally working.
However, now I notice that some applications (which I've known for a long time to not be very Linux desktop friendly, I'm looking at Mozilla first, but this time I can't blame them without reason) use some totally different system, Alternatives. The example that comes to mind now is Icedove. Is there going to be a consensus on the default system or we'le have different applications using different systems?
