OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Installing "Terratec Cinergy S2 PCI HD" On 11.3 ?

Oct 2, 2010

I've a 'Terratec Cinergy S2 PCI HD' DVB-S2 Card, which don't work with openSUSE 11.3. ('Terratec Cinergy S2 PCI HD' same as Hardware as 'HDTV-Karte SkyStar HD 2', 'Twinhan 1041', 'AzureWave DVB-S2', 'AD-SP400', 'DigitalRise DVB-S2', ...).

1. The VDR-WIKI shows me, that the card should normally work with Mantis DVB Driver. But the openSUSE 11.3 Kernel includes it.

2. The 'yast2 tv' don't find a driver and also no mantis driver is shown (same as 'HDTV-Karte SkyStar HD 2', 'Twinhan 1041', 'AzureWave DVB-S2', 'AD-SP400',
'DigitalRise DVB-S2', ...).

3. I follow the description on the linuxtv.org page. So I add in the '/etc/init.d/boot.local' the following line:

Code:

4. lspci shows the following output:

Code:

Code:

5. dmesg delivers

Code:

For me it looks like good - but so I see it right, vdr doesn't work with them.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Terratec Cinergy T USB XXS / T3 Stopped Working?

Aug 5, 2011

I'm having issues with a Terratec T3 DVB-T USB stick. It seems that ubuntu is recognizing it, but it isn't usable in Kaffeine or VLC anymore. The funny thing is that is WAS working, but after installing some codecs, upgrading to a new kernel and rebooting it stopped working, and it is no longer detected by both apps... Kaffeine says "no available device found", VLC gives a similar error.I've tried booting the machine with the old kernel, but the issue remains. I don't think installing codecs (x264 for example, tried removing it, no success) has anything to do with it, so I wonder what went wrong?

Oh and one more thing; in gnome device manager there is a question mark next to the stick. So there might be something missing on the system after all. linux-firmware-nonfree was installed and reinstalled 10 times or something, still no go, not even after a reboot.

Debian Hardware :: Terratec Cinergy XS DVB-T Stick Support

Feb 22, 2010

I have a combined analogue TV/FM radio/DVB-T USB stick Terratec Cinergy XS. This stick used to be supported by the em28xx-new driver, but it has been discontinued since a few months ago. A patch for 2.6.31 has surfaced, but I cannot find one for 2.6.32, thus it doesn't work any more. A similar model with USB ID 0ccd:005e is supported directly by recent kernels, however I have a 0ccd:0072.

Fedora Hardware :: Terratec Cinergy T USB XS Loaded But Not Working Anywhere In F12

Jan 23, 2010

long time ago that I tried to use my DVB-T Stick with Fedora. In past there was a work-out, drivers to compile and so on... That behaviour is GREATLY enhanced in F12, very nice!

The only thing that a had to do was downloading the firmware, the other stuff remains by kernel and so on automatically. I WAS impressed.

But it doesnt matters what kind of programm/tool I used, nowhere was my DVB-T stick recognized. And for result of that, Im not able to view TV... What the heck is now going on?

No errors, driver correctly loaded, but nothings works?

Here is the dmesg-message, U can see everthing looks okay:

Here is the message when I start kdetv, that program tries /dev/vbi0

I had sound with the same configuration in Windows XP, and all the hardware is ok.

I think I have no sound at all, with Ardour or Rosegarden, that's like if the digital input was not here in jack.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: No More Sound After Installing Virtualbox ?

Apr 27, 2011

Until yesterday I was living the Linux dream. I had my computer working like a charm but I wanted more and I installed Virtualbox. It asked for some drivers and the kernel source for compiling them. After a reboot VB was working ok but sound was gone.

I've done some tests for solving the problem with no luck:

1. reinstalled all ALSA packages
2. reinstalled all pulseaudio packages
3. reisntalled all phonon packages
4. regenerated /etc/alsa-conf
5. rechecked all sound settings under YAST (volume), everything looks good but there is no sound
6. rechecked all sound settings under System preferences > Multimedia > phonon (gstreamer and xine are installed, gstreamer is the default engine)
7. executed /usr/sbin/alsa-info.sh [url]
8. tried $speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav and other commands from SDB:Audio troubleshooting - openSUSE with this output

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: 11.4 - Installing Adobe Flash After Download

Apr 7, 2011

How to install Adobe Flash on my netbook. I recently installed openSUSE 11.4 which I am guessing is the newest one. I also am using Mozilla Firefox 4.0 Beta 12. I can't seem to install it at all. First I downloaded the YUM file and tried installing it with some weird program that came with openSUSE and it is just too difficult. I definitely do not know how to use it. Then I read I should be installing the tar.gz file and so I did. Even then people have different ways of installing it. The easiest way I have seen has been the way Adobe's website tells how to install it.

Installation instructions for tar.gz
1. Click the download link to begin installation. A dialog box will appear asking you where to save the file.
2. Save the .tar.gz file to your desktop and wait for the file to download completely.
3. Unpackage the file.
4. Copy the libflashplayer.so file to the plugins folder of your browser. Refer to your browser vendor for the location of this folder.
5. To verify the plug-in is installed in your Mozilla browser, launch Mozilla and choose Help > About Plug-ins from the browser menu.

Now my problem is that when it tells me to copy "Copy the libflashplayer.so file to the plugins folder of your browser" I cannot find the "plugins" folder in my mozilla/firefox folder. Now I'm actually wondering if it's because it a Beta version of Mozilla Firefox. I'm not very good with "coding" and "commands".

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: Choppy Sound In Gnome - Installing Xine Backend ?

Jul 23, 2011

In Gnome and XFCE I always have a choppy music playback. The music is never played smoothly. There is always hesitations in the playback, as if the CPU is running on 100% and cannot cope with the system load.

One of the reasons for that is (in my case) Pulseaudio.

Another reason is Gstreamer. When I choose Gstreamer as backend in KDE, I get the same choppy musicplayback as in Gnome or XFCE. With Xine as backend in KDE, everything is fine. So my conclusion is: with Xine, the sound would be fine in Gnome too.

So, I wonder if it is possible to use Xine as backend in Gnome too. Does anyone have experience with running Xine in Gnome and/or XFCE? What do I need to do to set Gnome/XFCE, so that it uses Xine instead of Gstreamer?

Or is there maybe a special setting, I have to apply? In gstreamer-properties I have tried all possible settings, but this didnīt change anything to the quality of sound.

My experience is also: this choppy sound is hardware-independend. It doesnīt matter which hardware I use, the sound is choppy. It is also distro-independend. The sound is choppy in openSUSE (gnome and in KDE with applied Gstreamer backend), in Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Fedora with Gnome, Linux Mint with Gnome.

OpenSUSE Install :: Boot - After Installing New Graphics Drivers OpenSUSE 11.4

Jul 14, 2011

I have installed openSUSE 11.4, and I really like it compared to other linux versions I've tried, but I find it requires a bit more linux know-how.

Being fairly new to linux, it has been quite the effort to learn but I started getting the hang of things via online support and such. Lately I've been having some problems.

I need linux to run a TCAD program, and it requires some openGL functionality and was giving me errors when I tried entering the software related modeling GUI.

Anyhow, I thought it had to do with my graphics drivers, so I decided to update them via ATI proprietary driver. After doing this, the system booted me into the console rather than X.

I tried numerous online guides on how to fix the issues, by running all sorts of boot commands (nomodset), and I read the graphics driver theory, as well as trouble shooting ATI graphics.

In the process, I also installed a radeonhd-xorg11-something through YAST, and that caused a black screen altogether upon boot. I managed to boot into failsafe with x, and from there I removed it via YAST, however this did not resolve issues. I also deleted any xorg.cionf files in hopes that the system will default back to the radeon driver.

As it stands right now, I can only boot into my system via failsafe mode. I'm keeping the unit off for now as it's probably tired from all the hard reboots I had to do . If someone can help me resolve this issue, I can turn it on and enter any commands required, such as finding out the graphics card, the kernel, the driver currently running, etc and I can post it here.

OpenSUSE Install :: Windows1 / Windows2 / Windows3 After Installing OpenSUSE

Jul 24, 2011

I installed openSUSE alongside Windows yesterday using the default settings. I had the installer automatically shrink my windows partition and create one for openSUSE. When I boot my computer now, the openSUSE bootloader shows up with options to boot into openSUSE, failsafe openSUSE, windows1, windows2, or windows3. Windows1 and windows2 appear to be the same thing - they both boot into windows, they read the same info for the hard drive, they have access to all the same files. Windows3 cannot start and says that the BOOTMNGR is missing. What are these three different windows options, why are two the same, and why doesn't one work?
