I just installed openSuSE 11.2 and I am missing the font Arial and some other Windows fonts.The package liberation-fonts is installed but I remember some there where some errors during installation (could not download xyz)How can I reinstall these fonts? I tried to reinstall liberation-fonts already but it did not help.

I've got a font issue on my system: The normal arial is missing from my system and all software substitutes it with arial-black. It's a system wide problem:Firefox, konqueror and chrome all render Arial texts as Arial-blackOpenOffice and GIMP only display "arial black" in font selection, not arialInkscape displays bot arial and "arial black", but they're the same font.I tried reinstalling liberation-sans-fonts package and even rebooted, but the problem remains. I checked my fontconfig configuration, but nothing seems to be wrong.I believe the problem first occured after I uninstalled VirtualBox (proprietary edition). But I'm not sure.
View 3 Replies View RelatedAfter upgrade to Opera 10.60 on my Gentoo Linux it stopped reading fonts.conf all of a sudden and now I am not happy with how Arial bold looks in non-Latin letters. Particularly bold cyrillic "м" letter looks almost as black square when Arial is used.I want to tell opera not to use Arial at all, there are plenty ofreplacements: Liberation fonts, Droid, etc. I found stylesheets, but not sure how to write statement which prescribes not to use Arial in web pages.I know that there is "not" selector in CSS v3, but could not make a valid statement out of it.
View 2 Replies View RelatedA client has sent me a docx. Actually it's not the first he's sent and it always causes me some kind of problems. When I open the document (a normal boring 3 page text document) with Open Office some of the characters are replaced with little empty boxes. From context I suspect they are things like slashes and commas - but I don't know for sure.
I copy and pasted some into gedit and there they appeared as boxes with letters and numbers inside like FF04. Is there some way to find out what these symbols are? I don't need to see them or print them, I just need to know if it is a plus sign, back slash, u with umlauts, or whatever.
This is an interaction between OOo and the font package on Ubuntu, so I have searched both sets of forums fruitlessly. In Open Office when I go to select font characteristics for the so-called MS fonts (Arial for example) instead of the menu showing Bold and Italic, it shows "Negreta" and "Cursiva".
View 1 Replies View RelatedMost of my work happens in a terminal, so I need a clear, readable font. I've settled a while ago on Terminus [URL]..., which works wonders for me. I added XTerm*faceName : Terminus in my ~/.Xdefaults, and I do get the Terminus font. Unfortunately, a lot of Unicode glyphs are missing (mathematical symbols, greek and hebrew letters), displaying as little square blocks instead.
If I remove the faceName entry, the default configuration seems able to display most of the glyphs (including math, greek, hebrew, runic, and whatever else), but the default font is much harder to read.
A google search hints that it should be possible to use Terminus as the default font, and fallback to (an)other one(s) for missing glyphs, but provides no further explanation. I've seen documentation that recommends Bitstream Vera Sans as a fallback, but it lacks the glyphs I need too; I don't know how to identify the default font used by xterm either, I had a look at /usr/share/X11/app-defaults/XTerm, but all I can find are generic references to old pre-fontconfig font names.
Using Gentoo Linux, fontconfig and xterm are up to date, USEs trutype and unicode enabled, X.Org server 1.6.
Edit: I alternate between Ratpoison, Awesome and XMonad, without a desktop environment.
I recently did a fresh reinstall of opensuse 11.2 kde. After I installed it I updated the computer. However, when I returned to my computer after the update, I found the window borders to be missing and that I couldn't do anything with the desktop. I restarted, and lo and behold! I had KDE 4.4! Except I didn't want to install it. I perfectly like kde 4.3, and would probably prefer to move back to it until kde 4.4 becomes stable. Why did this happen? Had opensuse moved on to kde 4.4 already? Is there a way to get KDE 4.3 without reinstalling?

The openSUSE 11.3 dvd for x86 now only gives a "system rescue" option which leads to command line directl. Where have been "the repair the installed system" tools? How can we access them now? Unfortunately far for all unicode characters can be displayed in Fedora by default, (much less than in M$ Wnd). There is a tool that aim to find and install missing fonts when an non-displayable character appears, but it starts mainly when I accidentally open non-text file in terminal and never when a web-page I open in Mozilla Firefox (or Konqueror) contains such kind of characters. So, I see a rectangle with hexadecimal number of character in it (or simply empty rectangle in case of Konqueror) and don't know if there is a easy way to see it by installing missing font automatically (or manually at last) for range of this character or a way to install complete font collection to display all unicode characters from all ranges.

And, i has use "EASEUS Partition Master Home Edition" create 2 partition on my USB flash drive (2GB MBR with ubuntu 11.04, 2GB data volume). I has able to run my Ubuntu11.04 from USB and i was so happy and then start installed VLC player, Ubuntu Tweak, unrar programs. after those programs installed, i reboot the Ubuntu then i encounter all installed programs were missing,,,,the O/S back to it's original state. So I tried to locate those and the only one I found is this:

What do you think I can do to resolve? I aleady tried a reinstall. Not tried to purge 'cause apt asks to remove half of the system.

I removed Evolution and replaced it with Thunderbird. I no longer have the option within the white envelope in the panel for compose mail, etc. I really liked this function but it appears to me to have been an Evolution specific function. How to make this work for Thunderbird?

No matter what desktop session I choose (Unity, Gnome-Shell, Classic) I can't change anything back since the "appearance" menu seems to have been removed while gnome-shell was being installed.
