OpenSUSE Hardware :: Two Screens And XRandR, Right Screen Shifted?

I am using OpenSuse 11.3 (64 bit) on my desktop and I have two (identical) screens connected to its on board Intel graphics chips. Both screens are detected and there is no problem when they are cloned, but if I want to have one screen right of the other (using the command xrandr --output VGA1 --right-of HDMA1, as the KDE settings manager never managed to have any effect), the right screen is shifted ca. 100 pixels to the left and on the right side of it I see the left side of the left screen.t seems both screens are detected if I type XRandR:

how Xrandr supports Dual screens. I am attempting to setup Dual Screens on a Ubuntu 10.10 System with an ATI twin head card (DVI + HDMI) Non-mirrored, separate desktops However on connecting a device to the HDMI output - the DVI screen output appears to loose all panels, icons. Only the mouse pointer & desktop background remains.
I believe the output is defaulting from screen 0 to screen 1. I found a solution by creating two devices in xorg.conf and assigning one for each separate screen. BUT this created a new problem of loosing my mouse pointer. how I can get my mouse pointer working or the correct way to setup dual screens.

I just found some strange behaviour with xrandr. I've got a dual screen setup (both 1680x1050) on which I want to span my desktop. I'm using the ati (amd) proprietary driver from livna to do this. I edited my xorg.conf to include the 'Virtual' line under screen.
When I add this to the "Screen" section:
The driver breaks and I get a resolution of 1400x900 and still not the option to span my desktop.
When I change that to read Virtual 1680 2100
It all works fine but I have to have my desktops on top of each other.

I am running a dual boot conifg with OSX and Ubuntu PPC (karmic) on a 2004 G5 and everything is working pretty well - very well actually. The last thing I am trying to adjust is such a simple thing, but I just can't seem to get it. In Ubuntu, the screen position is shifted to the right, covering the scroll bar of windows and the trash can.
No problem, just use xvidtune, adjust the screen as I want and create a custom modeline right? Well, it does not seem to work.Here is what I did:Using xrandr I created a --newmode and then used --addmode to add it to the output I am using (default):

Notice how the new mode now lacks the rest of the config information specified in the --newmode above, not sure if this is normal.I can change to the new mode, and the resolution is correct, but the screen is still not adjusted. There is no difference switching between the 1680x1050 and the 1680x1050_new modes - the screen may flash, but the position does not change.
(I also tried adding a mode line to /etc/X11/xorg.conf screen section, but it also has no effect. Actually, there was no xorg.conf existing at all, so I created a minimal one.)It is really annoying to have to adjust the screen position using the monitor controls on every reboot.

I have been arguing with my acer aspire one laptop since I bought it in terms of the screen resolution and have never been able to solve the problem, although I seem to be getting close. I just updated to 10.04 (the netbook remix).I have been following the instructions for how to fix it here. The result was this:

It happens before,put normally it'll disappear after several second, As the title said, every time I execute "xrandr -o right" ,the screen rotates but the top half turns to a black screen.I click the unity and it can appear on the area,the cursor appears too. I was't sure if the problem was caused by natty or not,so let's find out.

Normally you can put your xrandr command in /etc/kde4/kdm/Xsetup to change resolution before login. This does not work for openSUSE. Why, where else ?

I know there's a way to do this, I've seen them in countless installation how-tos, but for the life of me I can't seem to make it work.On my personal machine I have win xp pro & fedora 11-kde dual booted on my #1 320gb hdd.I have win 7 enterprise on the #2 320gb hdd. I reinstalled and forgot how I added a panel to my second screen, cause when you add a panel you choose left right top or bottom, but no option for second screen... finally I added a new panel, then right click on the new panel> properties, then unchecked "expand" then was able to move the new panel to second monitor, then set to whatever side and recheck "expand" then it sticks to the second screen, then add to panel, and select window list, then all new windows will be shown on the appropriate panel/screen

I am using 10.4, and an NVIDIA 5500 video card, two screens....
I have a problem with the Panel, top and bottom. It only shows on the main screen. When I set-up it showed on both, right across, was beautiful. I was quite happy to live with the shrunk down version until I noticed two things:
1. If an app or document is in the second screen (in this case the left) then it does not show up on the panel, until I drag it to the primary (right) screen.
2. Documents open in the secondary screen in full screen mode have a "white out" banner (which I assume is the hidden Panel) across the top and bottom ribbons. This is a BIG problem, because it means there is no access to the Max, Min, Close and drag facilities, and as it is not visible in the Panel that is showing, read 1 above, then it just sits there.

I have 10.4 and nVIDEA 5500 on my PC. I am running two screens, run as twin so that the desktop spans the two monitors.
I have noticed that when I try and stretch a window across the two screens, very useful in spreadsheets, the window 'pings' back to a much smaller size.
I open in, say my main monitor. I move the window to span across the two and than manually stretch the window. It will stretch to some extent but if I then go beyond a certain pint it then slams shut.
Also, if I click the MAXIMISE button on the window it only expands to full screen in one terminal.
This did NOT happen in 9.10, and does not happen in any Windows OS, so I know it has something to do with the new 10.4 build.

After installing a second screen and trying dual screens, i never backedup the x11 xorg.config file and recklessy overwrote my settings through that nvidia panel... Now to find that x wont start :(EE) no devices detected Fatal server error: No screens found
how i'd be able to share my xorg.config file with you guys, I am using my ipod now... Anyone knows anything? I tried reconfiguring and didn't work.. How do i share my file so you guys can find the flaw? Or how do i find the flaw myself?

I'm on Ubuntu 11.04 and I have this annoying issue. it does happen very often, but enough to be a problem (atleast once a day or more).While I'm browsing the web (not really doing much of anything else) the screen goes black with some text. I don't get enough time to read the text and I'm returned to the login screen. I'm completely logged off, my session isn't still there when I log back in

I use a laptop, and frequently plug in to a separate monitor or to a TV screen. I have it set up to to separate X screens. When using my laptop touchpad, I find that once I move to the other monitor or TV screen, I can't return back to my laptop monitor. My USB mouse, however, is able to transition from screen to screen with no problem. I am using ubuntu 10.04 but had the same problem with 8.04 before I upgraded. I have an NVIDIA graphics card, and use the nvidia-settings (which generates the xorg.conf file) to manage the screens. Here is my xorg.conf:

I have a new machine with OpenSUSE 11.2 and KDE 4.3. I have 2 monitors. The second monitor is set to extend the screen to the right. Everytime I logged on, I had to reset the resolution to auto and set the second monitor to the right. The setup didn't seem to be remembered and kdm definitely fell to the smaller resolution when I logged off. I stopped using krandr because it did strange things (it always seemed to wipe out the setup when I simply started it), and used xrandr. When I queried, using xrandr, it showed the main monitor on DVI0 and the second monitor on VGA2. The hardware and commands used are shown below.
I created a bash script to activate and deactivate the second monitor using the 2 commands below. It was working nicely. On, off, on, off, it was exactly what I wanted. I added it to my KDE auto start through the Computer Setting dialog. I tried it a couple of times in succession but then something happened. The main monitor is gone, and by gone I mean orange light, grub complains about the vga= resolution ("undefined video mode" and doesn't show higher resolutions). I only have the second monitor/VGA2 and when I query xrandr it shows DVI0 shows disconnected!. When I boot, I see the console messages on DVI0, but as soon as it gets to kdm, it switches to VGA2 and DVI0 has no video signal. When I run apps like ZSNES or XBMC in fullscreen their output is clipped at the bottom. It's like their output is shifted down about 20%.Here are some screenshots of the two appsI'm running Ubuntu 10.04 64bit with an Intel card. I get the same behavior with desktop effects on and off.uname -a Linux fry 2.6.35-25-generic #44-Ubuntu SMP Fri Jan 21 17:40:44 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linuxy video is output to my TV via a VGA cable. nless one of these apps is running in full screen, everything is fine. In fact, I can even run VLC or Movie Player in full screen with no problems.

I recently installed the newest version of Ubuntu (11.04) and I reverted to Ubuntu Classic. For some reason the icons in the top, right hand side are not where they are supposed to be: they are shifted to the center, and try as I might I can't get them to move over back to the right again.

When I'm connecting second monitor to the laptop, Display Settings applet (and xrandr -q) does not detect full list of supported resolutions. I just upgraded to Natty and some images display shifted colors, e.g. bright purple instead of yellow and bright green instead of whatever there used to be. Some images also show properly. I attached a screenshot of a bit of Thunderbird where the bug is visible. Does anyone have any idea what is wrong, or how to diagnose the problem properly? EDIT: and, to make this even more interesting, the attachment I made to the forum displays even more ridiculously once it has been attached - I'm attaching a screenshot of that, too. (although right now I have no idea what it looks like on a working machine)
EDIT2: To reiterate the problem: apparently, Firefox and Thunderbird rotate colors in indexed images for some reason. I am trying to find a way to fix this, with no luck so far.

Not sure if I'm doing right to post this on this thread but I've got an issue with my laptop screen extension. I have plugged a vga monitor to my laptop for a right display extension. The idea is to put the right extension on the vga monitor but don't why the monitor is know my main screen and my laptop the extension. I have tried to change sides but the laptop is still the extension and not the main one as I want.
Is there a hard way to make this work?

I've experienced 3 1/2 years of Ubuntu bliss. I have run into the first issue that I cannot solve using these forums, and I'm at my wit's end. Problem: I cannot start gdm (gnome?). I get the "Fatal server error: no screens found" error. Also, my terminal screen is duplicated on the top and bottom of the laptop monitor, indicating something gone terribly wrong.
When the problem started: immediately after running standard update to 2.6.32-26 (this time). Last time, it happened after running a standard update, but that was weeks ago. I did a complete reinstall (three times, including once to 10.1)
My system:
Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS (clean install + recent updates)
Kernel version 2.6.32-26
Also have 2.6.32-25. Neither one works in recovery mode, either.
Machine: Dell Inspiron 1420
Intel Core2 Duo
Nvidia GeForce 8400M GS

I have seen posts on the fact that dual screen configuration seem to be a nightmare with opensuse 11.3. As a few already mentioned, it worked all fine with 11.2 and now we are back to. I have two screens attached to my laptop: the standard LVDS and one HDMI high res monitor. It works fine to configure it once but it is NEVER SAVED so I have to do this at EVERY boot. Even more annoying: when the slid is closed, my laptop goes into "no display mode" (black screens) and when it tries to come back to life (opening the lid again) everything is screwed (to use a nice word).

I previously used 11.1 with KDE 3.5. Since I have /home on a separate partition I decided to install 11.2 from scratch to avoid any conflicts with KDE 4 installing. No problems on first reboot and some updates were installed. Now at each boot I'm dropped into text login. If I try <startx> I get <no screens found> and /var/log/Xorg.0.log gives <screens found but none have usable configuration>. However if I add vga=952 at the boot screen (for a 1280x800 laptop) I get into graphical login and everything works well (yes even KDE 4). Below is an snip from /etc/X11/xorg.conf.

with KDE everything works fine (both monitor show their configured displays correctly), however oddly with gnome when i try and setup dual monitor display, i get blank screens on both monitors, however on the display 0 on the left side there is a full column single pixel width green strip. the rest of display 0 and 1 are blank, however my mouse will move around both display correctly.

I've just installed 10.10 and the screen is shifted down (meaning, there is a black bar at the top of the Acer AL1916W monitor and the bottom menu bar is hidden - the accessible). The Acer controls seem to have no effect on this.
