i am a new bee to SUSE. and managing a db2 instance on a user db2inst1. unfortunately. one i given a command userdel -rf <another name> after this the home folder is missing . i think it was deleted after the command.
View 4 Replies View Relatedsince I upgraded to F15 I noticed that "su -l" is very slow, it takes about 20sec before it gives the prompt. I traced it down to a problem with "xauth" as su asks for the authorization for the display running "xauth nlist :0" which times out with an error. Actually, the command "xauth nlist :0" by itself gives:
xauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/user/.kde/tmp-host.domain/xauth-200-_0
If I put SELinux in permissive mode both command work without problem so I suppose SEL is the problem. I checked the permissions and settings of the file which is "unconfined_u:object_r:config_home_t:s0" but I have no idea if this is the right value, running "restorecon" on the file, directory or the whole /home/user didn't change anything.
I am running a fairly new Debain Jessie stable installation with Xfce desktop. I need to use Xfce4 becuas the standard Gnome 3 does ot work when logging in with xrdp which I use becuase the actual box is headless.
I have an issue when starting synaptic. When I start it from the menu entry it just does not start. When I start from the terminal with

I get an error box "Unable to copy the user's Xauthorization file" At the same time I can see in the terminal window a message
"Error copying '/home/userxxx/.Xauthority' to /'tmp/libgksu-SwcIe0': File or Directory not found".
I assume it is related to that I use a rdp session to connect, but I am otherwise clueless.

I agree deleting .Xauthority files work, but thats not a good solution. I mean, everytime I have to run any X forwarding application I have to delete the .Xauthority file. Here is my scenarioThe applications that I want to run are on Linux Server [NFS] and the client machines [CIFS] that are having problem in locking theXauthority files are Macs which share the same domain as that of client solaris machine. i.e. The home directory of particular user on Solaris & the home directory of that user on Mac have same contents.When I ssh -X from Solaris to the server, everything works fine, no error messages.When I ssh -X from MACs to the server, I get the following warning messages.

we have here a few openSUSE-machines (some 11.1 and 11.2) which mounts their /home from a NFS-Server and imports the users via NIS. I now wanted to use X-Forwarding via SSH, but that doesn't work with NIS-Users.On my machine I use Gnome and my XAUTHORITY-Variable points to /var/run/gdm/auth-for-bup_deg-E3TMSz/database
Why isn't the default ~/.Xauthority-File used for my cookies? What do I have to change to get X-Forwarding in my Setup running?

When I go to boot up (no other os installed) grub says it cant find the file initrd-2.6.34.7-0.5-defaultIf you boot the live cd again you can mount the boot partition and you�ll find a broken symlink called initrd that islooking for the missing file above.Like I said above, if it an obvious fix, all I need is some direction, I don't mind reading. Trying to clean install 11.2 dual boot with Win xp already installed. How do I create a new home partition, don't want to preserve the existing home partition from a previous attempt. DVD installation and automatic config keeps saving the thing.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm about to set up file server for client, both win and osx and later on web server as well.first think is that i have an old box packardbell with 2.4 gh amd processor 1 gb of ram it's an oldie one 2000 i guess i think that there shouldn't be problem to install it as i was running opensuse on it before and accept sound card everything was running normally. I'm newbie in linux world but as much as i can understand is that i will need samba to make it work with win based os but what about mac's os x? is samba for it and how to set it up ?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am trying to install gcc so I can compile C++ on a Virtual linux machine I have on my pc. I went to the GNU website and downloaded gcc-g++-4.5.0.tar.gz, unzipped and un-tarred it. This left me with a folder named gcc-4.5.0 which itself contained two folders. One named gcc and another named libstdc++-v3. From trying to follow a (not very clear) guide online I created another folder in the libstdc++-v3 folder named objdir into which I copied the configre executable. I then tried to run it here and was told that I was missing an install.sh file.
found one of these from somewhere else on my machine and copied it into the libstdc++-v3 folder. Now when I try to run the configure executable from the objdir folder I get a message saying "configure: error: cannot run /bin/bash ./config.sub.Basically all I want to do is get gcc up and running so I can compile some codeWhat I have been doing so far is probably way off the mark but its as far as I could get from following stuff online.
I installed the latest version...Everything works like a charm. I have Windows Home Server 2003 running and would like to access all of my folders. View 3 Replies View RelatedI'd like to reinstall openSUSE 11.3 on a pc and would like to preserve the /home partition. The current partiton structure is
sda1 /boot
sda2 /swap
sda3 /extended partition
sda4 /
sda5 /home
When the installer gets to the point to set up the partitions it offers something like
sda1 /
sda2 /swap
sda3 /home
I'm not sure which option to take now. I assume I choose the option to edit the partitions but I'm not clear how to preserve the /home as it's now got a different partition number or does that no matter as long as I choose not to format it? Also, to replicate the original partition structure I'd need to delete the partitions and add them in the correct order but would that destroy the /home?I'm a bit confused with how it will work.

View 9 Replies View RelatedOnly "Favourites", "Run Command" and "Leave" is shown on the classic KDE menu, same thing when switching to Launcher Menu Style. Missing Applications and everything else. File associations is not working. Double clicking any type of file it asks to install the program and the known applications menu is empty.
I tried to add a new user, same problem with that. I also noticed that when running Chrome it asks to be the default web browser each time even when I say yes.
I have not been messing with anything, I suspect it happened during a update, but I got the exact same repositories on 2 other x64 machines where there is no problem.
I'm using KDE 4.6.0 from the factory repository.
I tried to reinstall some KDE4 packages without any luck.
I do not want to reinstall the entire system or downgrade KDE.

I would like it to be friendly to both windows and linux. My sister and I are both dual boot and for now my wife is windows only. Pretty soon though I plan on setting her up on linux as well. What would I need? And are there any "good" guides to setting something like this up?
I would like to use the system to:
- Store media / files
- Maybe have KMyMoney on it and share with the wife
- Hook a printer to and use as common printer
Just before X begins, the screen states that there's an error in locking Xauthority. What does this mean? Is this something that should concern me? Is there a way to fix this?

Then I want to gain Remote Desktop Access to Ubuntu, so I follow [url]
However, fail at sudo /usr/lib/nx/nxsetup --install due to this file is missing.
I then use putty, navigate into /usr/lib/nx to run command below.

But, it always come out with permission denied issue
I also try to upload the .tar.gz file via winscp to any of the possible directories.

When I loaded opensuse 11.3 for the first time, I used the automatic partitioner and have been loading app's onto my ~8GB boot partition, and now that it's full, I have ~15 GB free on my home partition and need to install a few more app's to get my laptop fully functional. Is there a way (other than copying the boot partition to the home partition and then repartitioning, copying again to the repartitioned drive, and then recopying again to the freed up space) to get the new app's I install to redirect to my home partition?

It was the latest version when I installed it.To my surprise there wasn't a gcc or pppoe installed. Or at least there wasn't a command line begging with ppp.I tried to install them both with rpms. I think I got them both, just they don't work very well. In particular rp-pppoe doesn't work at all. It says that there's no modem on eth0, which is very true there's only a eth cable. gcc seems to work but I'm not sure I installed all the dependencies.I can't use yast because of lack of internet. I have to reboot to windows and download rpms.Can you give me a work around? At least for the pppoe then it might fix itself. Can I have some EXACT links to rpms or another solution?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have an acer travelmate 632 running 11.3.The grandkids have been playing playing frozen bubble in fullscreen mode but the "full screen" was actually only the central part of the monitor.Yesterday, there were a bunch of updates. Today, the kids again played frozen bubble but this time, the "full screen" was really the full screen, not the sub-window. After exiting the game, a window popped up telling me that a monitor had been disconnected and would I like to reconfigure. I said yes.
After reboot, the graphical login failed saying that a serious error had been encountered and that I should consult the KDM logs. I went to console mode but was unable to log in. Neither as root or as the regular user. Both fail with "Login incorrect". In fact, the only way in now is via single-user mode.
Looking through the /var/log/messages, I see a curious set of mesages complaining the, for instance, "/dev/sda4 is not in PARTITIONS" note the upper-case. I then see that, despite what "mount" tells me, ?home (sda4) and /boot (sda1) are not mounted. That is, I cannot list their contents. If I manually mount those partitions, I can list their contents.
so upon install of 11.2, I thought that I would try the LVM option when it asked me how I wanted to partition my HDD. I am using the entire HDD for SUSE...or so I thought. Take a look at how much space I have for my /home partition:

Now, I've added up the numbers, and they sure don't add up to 74.51 GB. Any way that I can make /home bigger? It won't let me increase it anymore beyond 7.89 GB, which is a total bummer.
In system info my ext4 /home directory shows total space of 51.7 gigs with 51.5 gigs available.
My ext4 / directory shows total space 19.7 gig and 7.7 gig free. Whenever I install anything it goes to the / (as guess root directory) In Dolphin it shows my /home directory but anything installed under that seems like it installs on the / directory.
If I have 51 gigs free where is it and how do I gain access?
