If im gonno do that I need to create inverted files to associate files to numbers ( numbers being the index of my paths ) . Now I was wondering what would be the best way to create an inverted file ? I was going to create sql tables using mysql api in C but then again there is no array data type or vectors to store few numbers in a single column in mysql and it is not advised to use Enum or SET

Jun 30, 2010I am currently in a project to set up an LTSP server with 10 thin clients. I am using Ubuntu 9.10 (Karmic).
Installing server and booting clients are working fine. Now, according to the need, I have to restrict user session numbers and allow resuming previous user session.
I have achieved to do the first one, but still could not able to setup the second one. As per requirement, if some thin can have power failure, the same session should be restored back. I am confused here, if I need to focus on saving xsessions or saving gnome sessions. I am looking for a concrete solution as I am running out of time.

Mar 25, 2010i m not able to create new user account to my new install of 11.2 don't know whether it occured due to update problem or some installation failure. when creation a new profile through yast it gives a warning sub-domain not started and quits however a new user get added through cli but with no profile of its own. that user cant log into gui enviroment and when he/she logs through cli it automatically tranfers it profile to "/"(i.e root) i m using kde4.3

Mar 28, 2011If I create a user with Yast using ldap than at some later point delete that users ( also using Yast ) I cannot recreate a user of the same name until I have rebooted the machine, which seems a bit excessive ! Closing and reopening Yast doesn't work, it still thinks the users exists. Even though it doesn't appear in the Yast and if you look in the ldap browser it is gone. Is there something else that need restarting ( other than the whole box )

This user must be in the "Users" group, but it must NOT be able to login directly on the computer, i dont want him to show up on the GDM users list at logon, he must not be able to login to a terminal, etc.
How can i add a user like that? must he belong to a specific group?

Oct 9, 2010I started withsda1 windows restore sda3 extendedsda5 swapsda6 /mandrivasda7 /SUSE 11.3
sda8 /SUSE 11.2I then made some changes with gparted (from PartedMagic 5.5) to create an ntfs partition to simulate a condition where someone may want to delete that partition and use the free space for linux. I then deleted that partition, sda2 then sda5 (swap) and taking some screenshots, went about resizing partitions to use that free space and then recreate swap. the intention being to create a basic guide on how to go about this.I have previously only had my swap at the end of the extended partition, deleting itand recreating it later had caused little trouble.I realize that a resize/move operation would have been a better choice.What I was not expecting was the partition number changes that occurred.

OpenSUSE Install :: Recreate A User Profile / Home Dir For An Existing User A/c?
Feb 16, 2010what is the correct way/procedure to re-create a user home directory. For instance, on a Mac/Windows machine, i would just rename the existing user profile [home dir], and then just log back in as the user - job done. On OpenSuse/Linux, it seems it does not work that way..?! When i try to rename my home folder to say me.old via root, and log back in as me, i get all kinds of errors. Opensuse does create a new home dir, but it appears not properly.

Jan 2, 2010When trying to install 11.2 from DVD, the user information I entered at the beginning of the install gets lost. I get to the Automatic Configuration step at the end of the install where the computer needs to reboot, and it asks for my user ID and password (it shouldn't do that). It won't accept the user I created (always says login failed), but it will accept root. That really doesn't matter, because the Automatic Configuration step has done anything, and I have a busted install. I've tried the install 4 or 5 times, but it is always the same problem. I eventually reinstalled 11.1 without any problem (though I did have to click Use Entire Disk on the partition section so it would delete the ext4 partitions created by the 11.2 install and create ext3 partitions).

Sep 11, 2010I have installed Suse on my Windows Vista 64bit machine a couple of times, but the last time I did it - after a disk change - presented some unanticipated problems. Prior to install, Windows Disk Management (whose output I was unable to paste into this question) showed that my disks were laid out as follows:

Disk 0 is a Seagate ATA drive, while Disk 1 is a Western Digital Ext HDD Usb Device. Looking back, I think I should have carved out a partition after M before installing Suse, but I was uncertain whether to make it a logical one or a primary, and in the past the installation has taken the 25 or so gig it needed from the last defined partition on disk 0. This time, however, it went after disk 1, and reformatted the entire drive, deleting about 300 gig of user data, including my system backup. What really suprised me is that it took up the entire drive: 2 gig for the swapfile, then a 20 gig partition, and all the rest for the third partition.
This is not what I would have expected. I especially would not have expected the installation to re-format user data. In any case, I did not want Suse on disk 1, so I reformatted the drive and then used my Partition Manager to rebuild the boot Mbr. So now, I am able to boot into windows, do not have Suse on my machine, but have lost critical data. My disks are now back to the way they were when I started (see above), except that drive F is now all free space, except for my latest backup. My question is how do I ensure, when I reinstall Suse, that it will choose disk0 for the installation and will not overlay any of the data that I have on that drive.
Red Hat / Fedora :: Login - Error "no Profile For The User Can Be Found And It Couldnt Create Per-user Gnome Configuration Directory"
Aug 8, 2010I have a network set up that has been working for around a year with no problems but has now developed a login problem. The system was set up with a main server with all users on it and another PC located elsewhere that people could log onto using there personal login and password that then gained access to the account on the main server. This remote PC has now got the problem. When you try to log onto an account it comes up with the message "your session has lasted less than 10 seconds. If you have not logged out yourself this could mean there is a installation problem or that you are out of disk space."
Error message says that no profile for the user can be found and it couldnt create per-user gnome configuration directory. I can log on as root onto the remote PC as it is obviously a local account but all the account on the main server are not accessible. From the root account I can see that the connection to the server is OK and I can actually log into the accounts on the server using the failsafe session so the physical network is OK.
I never built or designed this set up and to be honest I normally work with windows so its all a bit strange to me. Both PC's run Centos 5. I have checked the messages log and there doesnt seem to be any indication of a problem. Just that it stopped connecting from the remote PC. The accounts are all active on the main server itself and have no problems being accessed.

Apr 22, 2010I'm trying to install OpenSuse 11.2. During installation there's a problem. It offers to create an LVM with encryption. That's fine. The problem is: it only uses 15GB of my 250GB hard drive. When I try to alter the partitions, I can't. When I try to remove the partitions and create new partitions myself it seems OK but a few minutes later the installation quits with 0333. I googled on resizing the LVM, but it brought me nowhere. There seems to be no working manual on how to do that. How do I install my system without having over 90% of my disk unused?
