rather after I have had no problems installing 11.3 on a new hard drive, , can I simply mount the old one and copy libdvdcss to the same location on the new drive, or does it need to be "installed"?

View 12 Replies View RelatedWe use SLED10.1 as the base O/S for our Point-of-sale registers and we have run into the need for these registers to play .mov files that are sent down from the corporate office. The base installed KAFFEINE or REALPLAYER won't play those extensions. Can anyone recommend a good .mov player that doesn't require the libdvdcss libraries. (We can't use those for legal reasons). I tried downloading the latest XINE but got lost in RPM-hell and finally gave up.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have an external USB had drive. It is a Buffalo drive. When it is mounted it appears in /Media/Buffalo. The problem is, every time I reboot my system it is mounted to a different location.
e.g. /Media/Buffalo_1
reboot again and it is mounted to /Media/Buffalo_2
The two previous mount points always remain present as empty directories. This is creating problems I need to do away with. I need to work out how to get this to mount to the same directory every time. In opensuse 11.2 with the automount option installed I did not have this problem. It has only appeared since the install of 11.3.
I have it installed and running nicely so I am following sqlpython's "How To: Full multimedia in Squeeze" to get my various players playing. sqlpython seems to have been running a KDE environment while I am running Gnome, but that should not make a critical difference.
If I do (as root) apt-get install libdvdcss apt does not find it. Same result for libdvdcss2.
BTW, which of these would be more appropriate for my 64-bit squeeze?

I was trying to play some mp3s and mp4s in my totem but keep on getting this error report of which I have attached some screenshots. I also tried to download some things that I usually put on my system such as: vlc, ffmpeg, dvdbackup, dvdrip, audacity, thoggen, handbrake, audacious & sound converter but I fail in the process.

I downloaded the bin file, and installed it but I haven't realized that I made the folder in the current directory. I would like to install in /usr/java.
Can I now just copy paste it there. Or I need to re-install to desired location I installed JRE , is that ok or I need to install sdk
When I use ldd it prints the location of the depends.Is there a way to copy the depends listed to a location in a single command or streamline it? I don't want to copy each dependence once at a time.

I was recently able to obtain a new laptop at work. Rather than reinstalling the OS, reconfiguring all of the software, and then copying over all of my data from my old laptop -- I decided to try to use dd to clone my drive. It worked pretty darn well (thanks Saikee!). However, I have two problems that I have noticed so far:
1) The system does not seem to offer me the option to install the proprietary nvidia driver. I was able to manually install the nvidia-glx-180 package and then edit xorg.conf appropriately and I'm running with the nvidia driver now. So this problem is resolved (though I still find it odd it didn't even offer my the "restricted hardware drivers" option in System -> Administration).
2) Wireless is not working. I checked dmesg and it doesn't seem to have any errors in it. Here is a list of things I have checked/found which I think might be relevant:
- Oddly enough it seems that my wired device always gets renamed from eth0 to eth1, and my wireless device gets renamed from wlan0 to wlan1. I'm not sure why (though I would prefer them to be eth0 and wlan0).
- dmesg output looks good shows some message about the wlan1 link not being ready

just want to download the 60mb-ish pack of family photos from my external usb hard drive. I've gone through a multitude of wikis and help threads and can't seem to figure out how to copy and paste those files to my laptop The usb hd works perfectly as I just was using it about 1 hour ago when I still had vista on this laptop. Because I had Windows installed first, the bootloader was located in that drives master boot record and the openSUSE drive was slaved to it. Now that Windows is gone and the Linux drive is bigger and faster (although the same Ide (pata) ata rating. There are no sata devices in my system.) I want to reverse the master slave relationship between those two drives and put the bootloader on the openSUSE drive.
At the moment a single instance of openSUSE 11.4 is the only operating system installed on the computer I'm talking about.
What procedure should follow to accomplish that?

In actuality there are many folders besides folder1, folder2, folder3, and no numerical order exists. So, the folder named 'photos' would be copied to its parent folder's name in a new location. I would need this to occur for all folders in the '/home/user' directory.

I was thinking I'd pull the drive from the server and build a separate machine that has it's own os installed and the source and destination drive. Does anyone know of any linux tools will will do a full drive copy? Additionally, If possible, I'd like to move to a larger drive. how I'd migrate the 120 drive to a 400 or so? 1 idea I have is to install os on 2 new drives to where it they will boot, Then boot with one and copy source to the newly created destination drive.

View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a method at the command line to copy files from one location to another and retain the source files group and user?I'm migrating some MySQL files from one machine to another.I want to back-up the original files in the directory presently. They have owner:group of mysql, some have owner:group root:mysql and so on. To copy them under cli or Nautilus everything changes to root for I execute sudo cp or gksudo nautilus and copy via gui.
Since it is MySQL data I could simply do a dump of the database and restore it on the other machine. But there's about 20 db's and I want to do this via a copy for it will be faster - at least that is what I think.
I am running Suse 11.1 on a netbook that I would like to free up for work. Since I would like to keep the existing setup on the new machine, I was wondering if there was a process for copying an exisiting installation to new hardware. This will be a desktop system ( Cheapie PIV most likely )

After being puzzled why every guide saying to install the 'libdvdcss' package wasn't working, the package simply not being found; it turns out that in the shift to RPM Fusion, that libdvdcss was the only package that Livna was still going to carry due to RPM Fusion's refusal - in case you didn't know.
I've installed all of the gstreamer plugins, xine-extra-libs and libdvdcss, all of the ones that are suggested. Yet I still cannot play a DVD with VLC. I was wandering if you could help me diagnose why?
To put it bluntly, mplayer is unable to correctly play video DVDs. It seems to correctly find the title and everything, but the picture is broken or not displayed at all, with messages like:
a52: CRC check failed!
a52: error at resampling
[mpeg1video @ 0xa8d840]sequence header damaged
[mpeg1video @ 0xa8d840]Missing picture start code
Now, this all is on amd64 Gentoo Linux system. I believe the problem is not in mplayer itself, since the playback also breaks in VLC or when i copy the VOBs via vobcopy and try to play them afterwards.
I use libdvdcss-1.2.10 and libdvdread-4.1.3_p1168 (current stable in Gentoo), and tried previous versions of both libs, but it didn't change a thing.
The DVDs I have tried play fine in regular DVD player or on a Windows laptop. I remember the playback used to work about a year ago and I don't know what to try next.
