I have a cd of new fonts that I would like to install into the fonts folder.
How do I copy over the contents of the cd into the fonts folder?
I am using 11.3 Gnome 32bit
Is there a way to recreate all the folders from one directory to another without copying over the contents of the folder? I've been trying to do something like this,

$X contains only other folders so I dont have to worry about regular files but any kind of more "advanced" solution would work.
I should know this but I figured I'd ask before I screw something up.
What is the command to cp just and only the contents of a folder, not the folder itself, into a new folder?

Actually, there are two shared folders that I want to do this with. I want to be able to launch the script and automatically copy all the contents of each folder into two separate folders on my ubuntu desktop. For example;
Lets say that I have Shared Folders A1 and A2 on my networked XP system and I have Folders B1 and B2 on my Ubuntu desktop. I want the script to automatically copy the contents of A1 into B1 and likewise for A2 and B2. During the copying, I want the script set up such that any pre-existing files in the B1 & B2 folders will automatically get overwritten by the ones copied from A1 & A2.Is there any possibilities of me achieving this?
I want to try Opensuse after trying a few different distro's and in a way or another i haven't found what will keep me using it.But there is one thing i find weird,I'm using a Bravia lcd 32� as monitor connected directly via a direct HDMI cable (no adapters) from my ATI Radeon 4890.The problem is that the fonts during install in all the distro's i tried are not just tiny...but microscopic,to the point is unreadable.Think about a 4 words phrase as big as a dot ( "." ).I don't really want to use my old lcd 19� to install and then connect again my TV (as i had to do for all the other distro's).Is there anyway i can fix that without doing all that ?As of now i liked what i saw in this forums and your support and wiki,and found already that there is a solution for problems that were keeping me from staying on those distros (read multimedia problems,lack of support,compatibility and so on) so hopefully this will be the last i try for a while (experimenting is nice

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have KDE 4.6.5 and (up until now) I could see and access files and folders on my Desktop. My Desktop was set to display the contents of /home/john/Desktop.
I set this up from Right-click --> Folder View Settings --> View --> Layout --> Folder View. Then Location --> specify a folder == /home/john/Desktop.
But now when I do this I don't see the contents of the /home/john/Desktop folder. Instead I see a blank screen with a tab on the RHS labeled "New Activity".
How do I revert to viewing the traditional Desktop and its traditional contents?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have a folder with over 1500 fonts, I would like to move them to my /usr/share/fonts folder so that they can be used. Some are from Windows, some are just random extras. I've installed the msttcorefonts, but there are quite a few missing that make some wen pages look different.
How can I go about putting the fonts from my folder, into the appropriate /usr/share/fonts folder to be used? And how can I move them all? I can't drag and drop them, and mv FONT_NAME /usr/share/fonts for all of them will take a month or two. Is there a way to elevate my self to be able to just drag and drop them all? And which folder would they need to go into for them to be used in Chrome and Firefox?
I have a folderA that contains folderB that contains a lot of files. I would like to get rid of folderB, but not its contents. I want those contents to be inside of folderA. How can I accomplish this on the commandline?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have Fedora 10 running and the firefox fonts look really crappy for web content, especially for certain web sites. I have Samsung SyncMaster 941BW 19" widescreen LCD monitor. I have NVidia GE Force 5500FX graphics card. Following are the things I tried after going through some articles on web.
1. Installed msttcorefonts and webcorefonts packages. Set Firefox to use 'Times New Roman', 'Arial' and 'Georgia'.
2. Got freetype with BCI enabled.
3. Changed DisplaySize to enable 96DPI and changed the same on Gnome font settings.
4. Enabled LCD subpixel smoothing and full hinting.
I've tried both "nv" and "kmod-nvidia-173xx" drivers for the NVidia card. I tried 1440x900 (native resolution) and 1152x864 (seems to be next best but everything looks stretched). I have seen some improvements with above, but still the fonts strain my eyes. I use 'Bitstream Vera' fonts for application. The fonts and display look splendid within Fedora, but the problem is with the web content in Firefox. I use my system primarily for web browsing.
I have a bunch of folders with different stuff in them. I would like to be able to put a different image on each folder to represent the contents.

I've changed my distro from Kubuntu to Opensuse with Kde and I really like the new one.
Kde look better on opensuse as well as firefox seems to run faster. But I miss a feature I had on Kubuntu that is the encryption of my home folder (And it is essential as I want to install Opensuse on my notebook).
I would like to know if it is possible and, if it is, how to encrypt my system in order to keep all my personal data and stored passwords safe in case of someone have access to my notebook.
I liked opensuse a lot but this is the only thing that is keeping me from a complete distro change.

View 9 Replies View Relatedi would like to link a folder, in my case that is 'Pictures' to a different harddrive with a folder containing pictures. So whenever i save pictures it would save by default onto the harddrive with the linked folder. How can i do that. I tried to do it with ls i think but this makes softlinks which did not let me open automatically open the other folder. omg i hope i don't make it to complicated to understand.
So here a visual plan of it.
the default folder
/
/home/user/pictures
like to link it to
/media/pictures/photoshots
so this is the harddrive (another internal harddrive) which contains a different folder where i store my photos in general.
