View 9 Replies View RelatedI'v downloaded the new versions of suse many times. I average 3 to 4+ times before it's successful, bad downloads(bad checksum) or download stops for no reason. I'v used direct link and bittorrent. Bittorrent takes 2-3 times as long. So, I usually use direct link. I can do the download in about 6-8 hours. The first time, it stopped at 334 megs, using direct link. Using bittorrent, it took about 16 hours. I got a bad checksum. Is there a way I fix the file without downloading it again? Suse 10.4

I did try to run sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup it failed I than ran vim /var/log/vbox-install.log and this information was in the file /usr/share/virtualbox/src/vboxhost/vboxdrv/build_in_tmp: line 55: make: command not found
I searched the faq, I did a search online for this etc. The reason I ask is that suse on the download page of 11.3 states don't download directly since it is very slow and has no check sum. Therefore the iso may be flawed and you have spent 10 hrs trying to download the iso. My "fast" internet through qwest is at 1.5 mbps download so I assume that is why it is so slow to download the iso of 4.7 Gb.Now for the question the download page suggets you use bit torrent since it does the checksum but will download the iso no faster than the direct method. Second is to use check metalink with the addon in Firefox downthemall. I did this and had quite a time getting the iso link for 11.3 to start downloading. I would start downthemall from the Firefox toolbar and I thought wow!!! it downloaded that iso fast, how cool. Well it was not the iso but the website for the download page! At one point I got it to start downloading the iso but came in this morining and it was still going after 17hrs and showed several hours to go. I gave up and deleated it.
This afternoon I just gave in and started the download again using the bit torrent and I am waiting for the download to finish. I did eveything the site indicated but after and hour I noticed under logger it said **** openSuse-11.3-DVD i586 iso: PIECE 2206 FAILED HASH CHECK. It shows this same message from the begining of the download 7hrs ago to the last few minutes on each section. It states it is 75% complete? Is this normal or am I wasting 10 more hours? Sorry if this is not the place for this question but I never had trouble with downloading 11.2 and burning it to the disk. I think I just used the Directlink method and crossed my fingers. It did download ok!
I am new to opensuse. I want to install multimedia codecs on my opensuse 11.4. Is there any way to download multimedia codecs as an iso file and then burn a cd to install them on opensuse? Now, I am downloading "NonOSS CD" in add-on downloads section, is this iso file containing multimedia codecs?

On my 11.3 KDE if I leave the computer alone to download something and come back to check after a while I sometimes find that torrents or usenet downloads have been stopped long ago and kdeapplet displays the wrong time, anything from half and hour to ten hours late. I usually open NTP configuration screen, check if server is accessible and okay out of it and everything goes back to normal by itself, time is corrected and downloads resumed. What could be the reason for stopping downloads and how can I correct this problem? Is NTP the cause or just another symptom of a deeper problem? NTP is set to "now and on boot", interval is set to 5 min - I think those are all default settings.

If I open it again, there are the possible updates again (naturally, since it didn't download anything).
View 5 Replies View RelatedBy default, when zypp does an update, it downloads a deltarpm and applies it immediately, during which time the internet connection is open and unused. Can I make zypp apply the deltarpms all at the end, only after it has downloaded all of them? I'm used to this sort of behavior on Fedora/yum, and it reduces the window for which I must keep my internet connection open.

Whenever I do anything in Zypper, there is always a huge lag before it starts downloading a file, but then it downloads at normal speed. I think this has to do with the fact that it is now trying to download from multiple servers, and I would like to turn that off. Where do I go for that?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm experiencing complete system freezes when dowloading torrents with more than 800kb/sec (I think this is the limit, I've capped it at 750, and it seems to be running ok now). As my connection gives me quite alot higher download speeds this kind of annoys me, and me being quite new to this whole Linux thing, don't really know what to do. I had a dialogue with someone at Ubuntuforums regarding this, but we pretty much got nowhere.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI put a few Itunes songs into my music folder and tried to play them. It didn't. Then, I got to reading in the forums and noticed that there was a "one click" configuration for Gnome users. After doing some more reading, I saw a lot of references to restricted codecs and things of that nature. After beginning the one-click process and then aborting midway through installation, three questions come to mind:
1) Why all the warnings about legalities of downloading the codecs/files? If I bought the music and I use the codecs to listen to it, where does legalities come into play?
2) While installing some of the different files, etc in the one-click process, I received a few warnings that a particular file was not from a trusted source (I don't remember the info verbatim) and then it gave me an email address, presumably from the developer, and asked if I wanted to install it anyway.
3) If I do go through the one-click process, will I be able to listen to I-tunes or am I pretty much screwed on I-tunes on linux?
if I can grab a copy of the Lucid packages that my laptop's downloading and dump them into a directory on the desktop computer, then upgrade the desktop in a way it makes use of the packages it wants and that I have to hand already.
