The software of fortran 90 is at the media disk. Then, I want to install in my home directory. The format file is .lic

View 1 Replies View Relatedi have a backtrack install that i would like to keep while installing suse for an everyday OS; i start the install process but when it gets to partitioning the hard drive, it doesnt seem to recognize anything already being on there; it just gives me the setup for suse, ie:
sda1 ext3 = OS sda2 or sda5 = swap. do i have to configure a partition scheme? i installed ubuntu on a desktop alongside windows very easily due to grub graphical install/partition; is there not a similar function for suse?
After a fresh install of opensuse 11.3 x86_64, using a NET install CD, I noticed that the boot disk layout has overlapping partitions. I've noticed one other post that mentioned this at the very end. Is this a known problem already? Or is there something I'm missing that makes this okay?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm running openSUSE 11.3 and screwed some things up so that I can't install anything, including UNetbootin. So I decided to completely reinstall. I'm limited to using my hard drive as there's no CD/DVD or floppy drives installed on the machine and BIOS does not support booting from USB.

From the terminal enter these commands
sudo mkdir /distro
sudo chmod `whoami`:`whoami`
cp MYLINUX.iso /distro/distro.iso
Now extract Linux_kernel & Ram_disk to /distro#
Open /boot/grub/menu.lst
#ADD NEW ENTRY#
title Install Linux
root (hdX,X)
kernel /distro/Linux_kernel
initrd /distro/Ram_disk

Creating the folder "distro" on root was easy and went smoothly. I can't seem to make the second 'whoami' command work, though. I copied-and-pasted "sudo chmod `whoami`:`whoami`" into the terminal. It asks me for the root password, I enter that and then get

i know if u search a solution in forums u get so much confused information. i hope this little manual will help all with the nvidia driver problem! u dont need to edit or create a xorg.conf or something to run the driver correct and u need no blacklistedit too! if u did the standard opensuse 11.3 install its only about 2 kernel packages and the disabling of the x11noveau driver.
1. after standard installing opensuse 11.3 update and install the opensuse softwareupdates
2. install with the yast software re/installer:
(from Desktop or from the terminal. the terminal text command is: yast2)

u dont need to change the menu.lst after all, only u get many problems. run the midnight commander and delete the nomodeset word and the noveau driver would be normally still active after reboot.

As soon as I was done installing and I was on a fresh desktop, I installed the Yast updates that were available, rebooted, and now I can't login to any of my User accounts. I tried the "online update" using Yast2 but apparently (according to Yast) there is nothing at all to be patched on my system. I tried to click on the Firefox-3.5.5 rpm in the repository web-interface and open it using "install software" but the process aborts because of unresolved dependencies. View 1 Replies View RelatedWhen trying to install 11.2 from DVD, the user information I entered at the beginning of the install gets lost. I get to the Automatic Configuration step at the end of the install where the computer needs to reboot, and it asks for my user ID and password (it shouldn't do that). It won't accept the user I created (always says login failed), but it will accept root. That really doesn't matter, because the Automatic Configuration step has done anything, and I have a busted install. I've tried the install 4 or 5 times, but it is always the same problem. I eventually reinstalled 11.1 without any problem (though I did have to click Use Entire Disk on the partition section so it would delete the ext4 partitions created by the 11.2 install and create ext3 partitions).

I've got a multiboot system with Windozin the first drive and first partition like everyone recommends. I have several distro's and just let them install their bootloaders, but always on hd0 mbr. I installed Debian 5.0.1 this way and it wouldn't boot, so I got SGD to "fix" it, which it said was successful, but all I get is a partition doesn't exist when I try to boot. I put Debian on /dev/sdb3, I loaded Linux Rescueand mounted sdb3 and verified that its menu.lst had the right boot numbers (hd1,2). fdisk even showns /dev/sdb3 as boot as shown by the asterisk under the boot column. Should I do a complete reinstall of grub, maybe using one of the other distro's as the holder of grub? At one time they did all the grub launching as each addition was made

A network client computer gets ip address from dhcp server, loads initrd and failed on Loading Istallation System stage 4 or 5. If I try to continue installation in manual mode I get an error net_activate: ifconfig eth0 up failed I tryed network cards from different vendors it did not help. I have two different laptops that I would like to make bootable flash drive installs for, but would then like to have at least /home on a common removable storage (either a big flash drive or USB or ethernet hard drive) to share between the two laptops (I'll only be using one laptop as a Linux box at a time). One laptop (Dell Latitude D410) is only 32 bit capable (Pentium M - I think there's a 64 bit Core 2 CPU available for the socket 479, but I don't know if the BIOS / mobo will support it). If I'm going back and forth between 32 and 64 bits, can I share /home? What else can I share - /usr or anything else?
