After the install on the hd I had to modify manually the start option otherwise I wouldn't. I found out in the option that I have to give: pci=noacpi and the start will go on. My question is, how to do this automatically, I mean modifying before every boot would be annoying.

I installed dansguardian & squid on 11.2 and things seem to run fine. Squid auto starts but dansguardian does not. I have checked Yast2's runlevel services option and dansguardian is enabled to 'Yes'. But when i check with 'service dansguardian status' it reports 'unused'.If i start dansguardian by hand, things work perfectly fine.I am in a desperate situation since there are 4 other computers which are dependent on this setup to work correctly

The installtion panels look totaly different compared to the installtion manual.
Is there some known problem? What do I need to do to stop that?
when I go to download 11.3 I am presented with the installation medium for a DVD installation with a button that says download DVD. Should there be an option to download an ISO option for a CD installation on this page along with the DVD version? Some of our older machines can only read CD's with a max size of 500+ megs.

I follow the layout in the community documentation regarding setting up firewall rules through iptables. I.e. I create a file called iptables.rules and place it in /etc. I then modify the /etc/network/interfaces file to look like this:

However this third one I have reinstalled Ubuntu 3 times now, and every time as soon as I modify the /etc/network/interfaces file, eth0 fails to start up (is not visible in ifconfig, only the loopback adapter), and no networking works.
I have tried reducing the iptables.rules file (which is a carbon copy across all machines anyway) to a basic accept all rule, and it still doesn't like it. As soon as I remove those two extra lines in the interfaces file, the network starts up no problems and eth0 is there.
I'm configuring a computer for someone and I don't know the wireless network they will be using. (They are not technical.) I've setup networking to use NetworkManager. It works just fine.However, Knetworkmanager won't startup at boot/login. Therefore, the network doesn't startup automatically. I have to click on the icon in the menu to start it.That works well, but it should be configurable to startup automatically.I've searched this forum for answers and don't find any good ones. It seems there isn't an answer or there is a bug in KDE 4.x. (I'm using KDE 4.3.x)
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have just installed squid and sarg, both are working well. I cannot get squid to start when the machine boots. I installed webmin and configured the setup through the webmin interface where I checked the "start at boot option". I think the problem is that my network card responsible for the web connection is wireless so when squid tries to load during boot it is trying before the Wireless card is up and so it fails. I have tried multiple methods of adding a script to the "dispatcher.d" folder in "NetworkManager" to load squid after wlan0 is up but all have failed to bring up the squid proxy without my interaction. I have not found any two sites that describe the syntax for "dispatcher.d" alike so I may have the command wrong but I have no what to do.

Now I cannot get NM to start automatically at boot. The red X shows up on the panel app Network Management and settings buttons do not activate the wireless device. I have to start NetworkManager from the command line. After about 30 seconds the wireless hardware symbol turns on and then I can connect to the network.

right now, my machine runs ubuntu 10.10 due to work issue, i need to use windows server 2008 R2 (its a windows exclusive company) but i never used any of the active directory or anything from the windows server (only experience with windows is visual studio and those GAMES!), so i figure i need to practice a bit on my own b4 starting the job and just at the same time I found out as a univ student i get it for free! Today I installed KDE 4.6.3. (OpenSuse 11.4). With this version a modified oxygen icon set was installed. Some icons, e.g. folders, are looking very ugly. They are looking a little bit like Tango icons. This mixture of original oxygen icons and the "tango-oxgygen" ones looks very inconsistent. You can repair this by installing the KDE 4.6.0 oxygen icon set (oxygen-icon-theme, oxygen-icon-theme-scalable) coming with OpenSuse 11.4. Yast is showing some problems regarding KDE 4.6.3. you can ignore them.

I currently have Windows XP running on this laptop, but it's very slow.I downloaded openSUSE-11.3-GNOME-LiveCD-i686.iso and sucessfully burned it to a CD.I have the laptop bios set to boot from CD, and it appears to be doing that no problem. When it boots I first see the welcome screen, then the openSUSE Installer, whether I select the Live (GNOME) option, or the Installation.. it loads the kernel, and then loads the KIWI boot systemit is on the third event, waiting for CD/DVD dvices to appear... that something seems to fail... I then see Failed to detect CD/DVD or USB drivethen a rebootexception and it reboots in 120 seconds.
View 2 Replies View RelatedDid a fresh install of 64-bit Natty on day 1, and have an irksome issue when logging in. Once I'm logged in, Keyring prompts me to type the default keyring password. This happens every time I log in.
The problem is, the option to unlock the keyring automatically at login is dimmed, and only the other 3 options are selectable.
I opened the "Passwords and Encryption Keys" applet and saw 2 entries under "passwords", both named "Network secret for Auto [my network name]/802-11-wireless-security/psk". I see no option here to allow either of these to automatically unlock at login.

I've tried about a thousand things and I get a different error message at different times from each attempt. I've got all of those documented, and I imagine I'll need to post them. I'm just not doing it quite yet as sometimes I give too much information and I really feel that I'm being an idiot here, missing something simple.
I'd like to install openSUSE onto the D Drive, using the USB and PLoP to boot it. I've downloaded openSUSE's torrents for all iso's (Net, DVD and LiveKDE). In order to get those files onto the USB, I first format to FAT32. I've tried UNetBootIn, LiLi, and mounting the iso on Daemon Tools and then copy-paste into the hard drive. None of these work and they all give different errors.Is this even possible, am I wasting my time? This is getting incredibly frustrating as I've been at it for nearly a week.

I am trying 11.2 now, and my box is box is being named automatically, to what I named the previous box (which is long gone). I have SUSE DVD and have set local(OD) repository priority to 80 in order to get most packages from DVD. Inspite of that YaST pulls packages from online repositories, it may be the latest version. I have 8 MbPS dsl but the YaST download speeds are around 500B. How do I change mirrors of repositories. View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to mount some file systems in the /sys directory with the nosuid option. Upon executing the command:
mount -o remount,nosuid /sys/kernel/security
or
remount nosuid /sys/kernel/security
/etc/mtab will show that they have been applied, but upon restart of the machine, the nosuid option is removed.
Soooo, the question is why are they being removed? Can /sys files carry the nosuid option?
