OpenSUSE Hardware :: Unable To Connect To Printer Wirelessly - Error Idle "Connecting To Printer"
Jun 23, 2011
I am unable to connect to my printer wirelessly. I get this: Idle - "Connecting to printer..." The computer never connects. I can print a configuration report and get the ip address. If I type that in a webrowser, I get an error: unable to connect. Even if I plug the printer into the computer by a usb, I am unable to access the printer's ip address in the webrowser. I'm not sure how to proceed on getting the printer working wirelessly. It is a hp 6940 I use the HP Deskjet 6940 Series hpijs, 3.10.2rc1.9 driver. I have only recently been having printer problems. The printer has been hooked up on the same network for years. It still prints via usb.

I've bought a HP Photosmart printer, HP Photosmart wireless e-All-in-One printer - B110a and i've got a problem installing it properly. I'm using Debian 6.0 Squeeze. When i connect the printer, Debian doesn't recognize my printer as the Photosmart B109 printer for unknown reason. When i go to the site of HP and search for a driver, it directs me to this site:I've downloaded that latest hplip file as a .run file and installed it. My printer is recognized proparly, but when i try to print a colored image, it comes out black/white. Something is not crrect. Does anyone recognize this problem with this type HP printer?

I am unable to add my USB printer via the YaST2 Printer Configuration setup tool in openSUSE 11.3. The printer, a Dell Color Laser 1320c, was last used with openSUSE 11.2, and setup was entirely uneventful. No driver is provided by Dell, so I used the Fuji Xerox DocuPrint C525A Linux driver. The problem: To add a print queue in 11.3, a Connection must be specified (parallel, USB, network, etc). However, the configuration wizard fails to show the presence of the USB print device.
[Code]...
This printer was working just eight weeks ago under 11.2, and 11.3 is obviously able to detect its presence and identify it correctly. I feel certain the solution is simple, but I haven't found documentation that provides the answer.

Linux and I have trying to get my Fedora 15 (x86 64bit) on my laptop to print to an Epson Stylus NX515 printer/scanner. I have the printer connected to a router through a wireless connection. I have other computers that are on the network that are Windows based and they of course are printing/Scanning just fine. The printer is located in a different room. I have been searching for a solution but non that explains how to install a printer driver for one that is connected to a router wirelessly.

I have a network printer which is on a windows domain/workgroup. Earlier I use to connect to the printer with URI socket://10.x.x.x:9100 and it worked fine. Then I after some time the going got tough and at the moment I am not able to print.
Initially I thought that I need to upgrade CUPS and even downloaded its latest version (did not installed it though).
My trouble shooting started with the ping then telnet followed it. Following is the output of telnet
Code:
****@linux-rafr:~> telnet 10.x.x.x 9100
Trying 10.x.x.x...
Connected to 10.x.x.x.
Escape character is '^]'.
Connection closed by foreign host.
****@linux-rafr:~>
I tried to telnet by turning off the firewall but no good. Hope someone has a solution to this issue.
BTW when test page print job is viewed in CUPS the following is the message.
Unable to write print data: Broken pipe

I give up.. after an hour trying to get my HP 7600 to network connect
My main box is usb connected to my HP Photosmart 7600 and works fine, my daughter has her winxp box connected to it over network as well. My wife's Ubuntu box (same OS and version as mine 9.10) CANNOT connect in any way, shape or form. I've tried every protocal, port, helper program (hp-setup, cups local webpage etc..) and nothing. I have the printer shared.
why connecting to a network printer in the same OS and version would take so much work?
Also we're all on the same network, & subnet with no filtering or firewalling in between the boxes.
*resolved* After trying everything else I restarted cups on the box the printer is attached and everything mysteriously works.

This is my first day with Debian, I have used other distros, and am a long time linux user. My HP D 1600 series is recognized, but when I try to print a test msg. it says sent, but the printer remains idle. I have tried everything I know. When I run the trouble shooter I get this. /// /usr/lib/cups/backend/hp failed////
In the past when having a printer problem I have installed HPLIP-gui and removed the printer then re-installed it. That has not worked and I cannot even remove the printer.

I have an HP J4680 all in one that, for some reason, does not process the print job immediately when I send it. When I open my printer's properties it will list the printer's state as idle and when I go into the print que it tells me the job is scheduled for . . . (some time) which is, I think, about 5 min later by the clock on the task bar. I've been all over the settings and don't see anything that looks like it applies to that. Usually I've been restarting the printer and computer and then it will print when I send the job. Tonight I waited until the time and it did print according to the scheduled time. I need to find a way to always have it print right when I send the job.

I have just got my network to work on Fedora, and now I have run into an new problem... I can't access any shared files or printers. The computer that has the printer and the files I want to access runs windows XP Home edition, and when I boot into XP on my machine, I can access the files and printer. Can this be fixed, or is Fedora incompatable with Windows XP in this case?

F12 64 bit machine, connects to a Windows share to which a HP PSC 1210 is connected through a USB connection. Printer is set to share, nicknamed "Asterix". When the printer is set up through F12, I select under Network printer "Windows printer via Samba". I browse, find the printer, and click verify. The printer is accessible. Then I finish the installation, ordering a test print. Here the strange things start happening (attached some screenshots to back the story up).
1) No error messages appear that I can find. No cups-errors, no other errors pop up on the F12 machine. The print appears and disappears from the "Document Print Status (Asterix)" window. Only on the Printer Properties page do I see something strange: Printer state: Idle - procession page 2.
2) In the Windows machine, I also can't find any error messages. The print appears in the Printer list, and stays there. The printer comes to life, checks its cartridges, rolls some wheels, and then decides to do nothing more. When I select the print and click on Properties, the default priority is 1, but when I move it up to 99, nothing changes. The only strange thing here is, that the document, according to the Windoze machine, has 0 pages, yet is some 20MB.
And nothing ever happens.
Things I think it's not:
Firewall issue. The print obviously slips through to the other end.
Faulty driver issue. Directly from the Windoze machine, and if plugged into the USB of the F12 machine, does it print perfectly fine.

I installed recently opensuse 11.3 and then Virtualbox from Sun Webpage. I have a local printer connected to one of the usb ports. With 11.2, VBox saw perfectly that printer and I could connect normally to it. Now, VBox sees the printer: if I click on the usb icon in the status bar it appears, but dimmed, and I cannot connect to it. I tried to disconnect and reconnect the printer physically, but nothing changed.

My home/small office LAN has network connected printers. Some use wire. Some are wireless. Each has a unique static, private IP address on my LAN. Each workstation has a primary printer, but all of the printers are visible and used by all family and office folks. The symptoms:boot a workstation, connect to LAN printer,
start a queue
print things
suspend or shutdown the workstation
resume or reboot the workstation
various troubles
Even if there are no jobs queued (everything printed already) at the time of suspend, I must routinely "thump" the printer or workstation of both to make printing work again. I am concerned with Ubuntu Jaunty towers and laptops. All of the printers are HP something with a built-in wired or wireless ethernet connection. I'm not concerned with win-dose workstations on the LAN (unless interaction over there is causing other grief)!! For example, a win-dose spooler fails to end a print job properly and let go so that others may use the resource.
In the words of Snow White, "someday my Prints will come." ~~~ 0;-/ Dan __________
"Thump" -- a technical term for various acts including but not limited to reset, restart, power cycle, reboot, physical violence, etc. intended to correct bad behavior of computer system components. Not to be confused with "Swat" where one strikes the side or top of a monitor to correct problems with the displayed image.

I have some trouble setting up a printer on my network. My network is divided so that all wired connections are in one subnet, while all wireless devices are in another. My printer is Canon MP640 and is connected via wireless. When I use the network printer scanner utility from Canon, it will only scan my wired subnet, and is thus unable to see the printer. I can ping the printer, so there is no problem with subnet segregation.
On my router, I have Debian and iptables. My initial thought was that I could somehow set iptables to just forward all packets to an address to my printer. This address, of course, wouldn't exist "physically". But I have no idea whether or not this is the right approach. A suggestion I received from a colleague was to set up forwarding of broadcast packets. However, I am unsure whether this will have an impact on the wired subnet. If any of you could conjure a magical iptables rule for this or have suggestions other than plugging the printer into the wired net
