Have split hard drive into Windows 7 OS & Ubuntu OS. The printer connected to Windows 7 with no problems but I am unable to load the printer in Ubuntu 11.04.
The printer is Lexmark Prevail Pro700 series.
I am running Ubuntu 10.04. I am trying to print on a Lexmark 9300 series printer connected to a Windows XP machine. I am able to print on an HP Laserjet 5P printer connected to a Windows 7 machine just fine.

When I try to load up the printer driver downloaded from the Lexmark site I am asked to enter a root administrator password, but when I enter the password I used to setup the OS it will not accept it. I have reviewed the "sudo" terminal password info, but as I am a newbie I was concerned about wrecking the installation.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am unable to connect to my printer wirelessly. I get this: Idle - "Connecting to printer..." The computer never connects. I can print a configuration report and get the ip address. If I type that in a webrowser, I get an error: unable to connect. Even if I plug the printer into the computer by a usb, I am unable to access the printer's ip address in the webrowser. I'm not sure how to proceed on getting the printer working wirelessly. It is a hp 6940 I use the HP Deskjet 6940 Series hpijs, 3.10.2rc1.9 driver. I have only recently been having printer problems. The printer has been hooked up on the same network for years. It still prints via usb.

Now I'm trying to install this printer again on the 64-bit Ubuntu 10.10 system. I'm following the instructions from [URL].. and using the Z600 series driver from Lexmark.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI tried to install a lexmark z1300 printer, but ubuntu did not recognize it and it crashed. I got a blank screen with a cursor in the middle of the screen that was not flashing. I tried "ctrl + alt +backspase" and it did not work so i had to turnoff the computer by hand. After i turned it back on, i could no longer use vlc player. When i tried to open an .avi file i got the message shown below and i could only hear the audio. I tried to reboot with the option to repair broken packages and that only messed up my window borders (i.e. i had no option to min max or close the windows). The window border problem was solved by just rebooting the computer but vlc media player still does not work.
MESSAGE FROM VLC PLAYER: No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format. Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.
I want to install a Lexmark printer which for some crazy reason wants the root password. The deb installer will not take my password which has sudo privileges. I understand that Ubuntu locks the root pass, but how can I get around this?

I downloaded the lexmark-inkjet-09-driver-1.0-1.i386.rpm.sh, which begins installation but gives the error message The installer package is not supported by your native packaging system. The installer will exit. I also downloaded the Linux_S305_E.sh, which doesn't even begin installation. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a network printer which is on a windows domain/workgroup. Earlier I use to connect to the printer with URI socket://10.x.x.x:9100 and it worked fine. Then I after some time the going got tough and at the moment I am not able to print.
Initially I thought that I need to upgrade CUPS and even downloaded its latest version (did not installed it though).
My trouble shooting started with the ping then telnet followed it. Following is the output of telnet

I have a 64 bit laptop and i am using the 64 bit version of ubuntu 10.10. i am wanting to setup a lexmark x4650 printer which has wifi built in and can do wireless printing. i have the driver from lexmark installed but it is the i386 version which i know is the 32 bit version. and i know that 32 and 64 bit versions don't work so well together. i've gone through all kinds of help on these forums and for some reason when go to print a test page, it comes back with an error statement. i will have to try it again so i can post it verbatim.
i have a similar thread in the 64 bit thread so if it can be locked or deleted and have just this one, that would be cool. this same printer is not connected to any computer for it's wireless printing ability. it is a stand alone but all of my families laptops can use it since they have the software on theirs. they are using windows 7 which is what i have also, but i am switching to linux since i am not a fan of microsoft at all. i despise everything they do. i love linux and the community around it and i just want to get this printer setup so i can make the last and final switch. this is the only thing holding me up.
We are running RHEL 5.1 on the 2.6.18.53 kernel. We are attempting to pass print jobs to a Lexmark printer with the lp -o landscape command. The print jobs continue to print "portrait". Is anyone aware of this issue and is there a work-around to get these print jobs to print in landscape format?

I give up.. after an hour trying to get my HP 7600 to network connect
My main box is usb connected to my HP Photosmart 7600 and works fine, my daughter has her winxp box connected to it over network as well. My wife's Ubuntu box (same OS and version as mine 9.10) CANNOT connect in any way, shape or form. I've tried every protocal, port, helper program (hp-setup, cups local webpage etc..) and nothing. I have the printer shared.
why connecting to a network printer in the same OS and version would take so much work?
Also we're all on the same network, & subnet with no filtering or firewalling in between the boxes.
*resolved* After trying everything else I restarted cups on the box the printer is attached and everything mysteriously works.
