I'm making an attempt to install drivers for my easycap dc60 USB video capture device. Someone was good enough to make a driver project on sourceforge. Problem is I cannot get it compiled.

Trying to install the drivers for my blackmagic intensity pro capture device and I cannot get the driver to install I get an error in the ubuntu software center saying: There seems to be a programming error in aptdaemon, the software that allows you to install/remove software and to perform other package management related tasks. I've made a lot of progress getting my easycap 2.0 usb capture device to work with ubuntu 10.10. I've got the picture up any everything works great. But about a minute into the stream it just freezes, I need to go into "playback" and either pause then play, or click "next", it then refreshes and works again for another minute or so. I'd believe it if someone says faulty hardware because the easycap is cheap, but I don't think that's the case. Additionally, is there any way to set VLC so that when I open it, it automatically opens with my video capture device (/dev/video0) so that I don't have to go into the options and change it every time?
I'm getting some jitter when capturing via RCA or S-Video from an em28xx device. Input type is PAL, other than that I haven't fiddled with mplayer or vlc's options (vlc only sees the RCA input, mplayer sees both)
In Ubuntu 9.10, I was successfully able to use my Pinnacle Dazzle DVC 100 (a cheap USB analog video capture device). I use it for backing up old video that is stored on tapes, and it isn't working with my current install of Ubuntu 10.04. When I plug the device in, it should be detected and the em28xx module should be loaded. This fails and /var/log/messages has the following:

I need to capture from my webcam. It has a mic too.I can specify video input device as /dev/video0.I specified input audio device as /dev/dsp2 ( OSS device, corresponding to USB Webcam), Now VLC throws an error, "VLC is unable to open the MRL 'alsa:///dev/dsp2'. Check the log for details".Thinking it wants an alsa device, I specify device as /dev/snd/pcmC2D0c. (got it from kinfocenter and dolphin). Now again an error, "VLC is unable to open the MRL 'alsa:///dev/snd/pcmC2D0c'. Check the log for details.".I try with any device, the same error. I have added myself to audio device so that I can read/write to the mentioned devices.I see no way of switching VLC to use OSS. And I see no information (documentation on net) on it's expected device listing for audio.
I am watching streaming video via Firefox and Flash player. The data rates are too slow so I am getting choppy audio and video. How do I download the clip so I can play it back later. The video is coming from a tourism web site.
I have two sound devices, an internal audio device on my motherboard and an external USB devices, which came with my headset. After upgrading to 11.4, the microphone on my headset ceased to work with my softphone. As it turned out, the softphone used the standard input device, which was defined in the Phonon tab in the KDE System Settings. Unfortunately, when I put the USB Device on top of the default input stack, it doesn't stay there. When I apply the changes and leave the Phonon tab or even enable "Show advanced devices " the stack always resets to its initial order. I was unable to find any kind of config file where Phonon saves this settings.
Does anybody know what has happened to Kino - the video capture utility? Used to be packaged by packman for Opensuse but doesn't seem to be available for 11.2.
Is there an alternative I can use for video capture - or has packman just not gotten around to adding this yet?
I am trying to record a test video with my built-in webcam, using Cheese. However, after I click "Start recording," the Cheese screen turns black, and Cheese seems to hang. I can click "Stop recording" sometimes -- then I get a split-second video clip. But mostly it just hangs until I force quit.
I'm on an Asus 900HA. I could record video clips on using eeebuntu and Cheese. Is there a setting I need to check?
I have a new dell inspiron 1545 since i am facing problems with vista i wanted to work with linux operating system (fedora 9). I want to install the video drivers and sound drivers for my laptop..When i installed fedora 9 my screen resolution was 1366x768 but suddenly now my resolution is 1024x768. I tried to change the resolution but I am unable to find my laptop resolution. What could be the problem

video playback is like I have applied a blueish sepia filter over it. And this is just the playback from totem player or mplayer, and not the playback from ..... (and generally online streaming) - this works just fine. this messy video playback also appears when I use cheese to capture video with my webcam. Note that the preview picture of the video file on nautilus has the natural colours it should have.

I got a nice Neximage webcam for my Nexstar Telescope for Xmas so I'm trying to get it working with kstars and INDI (Instrument Neutral Distributed Interface). I'm using opensuse 11.3 (tried on both 64 bit on PC and 32 bit on my laptop) and Gnome. I've installed libindi and kstars and as many dependencies as I could find but it seems that no matter what I do I can't get any telescope drivers to appear in the device manager.
I just installed a minimal version of Ubuntu 10.10 (with Openbox) over 10.04. Mainly everything's ok, but I have three problems:

Before rebooting/shutting down works. I, however, would like to have this permanently fixed so I don't have to run these commands every time before rebooting/shutting down.
2. I can't install the ATi video card drivers. I downloaded the correct driver (10.9) from the ATi website and made sure I had the packages found here installed. I also made it executable by running

3. When booting, I get a message saying something like "intel_ips can't find i915 symbols, so graphics turbo is disabled". When googling for this, I see this is a kernel related issue. Since I don't have any understandings of kernels, I thought this is a little too high up for me. What does it mean and how can I fix it, as it slows my boot down quite a bit?
after few years being limited with my pc configuration (windows OS) I realized that linux or it's distributions is the best invention in 21 century. And finally I am starting use it. openSUSE 11.4 installaition succesful, I updated it and it looks I don;t have any problems, but I got few questions.
1. How install older version of mozilla firefox internet browser here? I can't install some plugins because it's a firefox beta 12 version, for example. I am quake fan, o I like play quake live, but i can't install quake plugin, because my firefox is beta version.
2. Does I got all drivers instantly installed to my mashine? ATI video drivers, sound drivers ect??
3. Are there any How-To guides which can teach me, how I can improve my desktop? gadgets, 3D desktop ect...?
Installed OpenSUSE in VirtualBox to try out. Boots ok but can't capture mouse! I installed with all defaults and using Gnome. Host OS is Ubuntu. I'm running XP fine in VirtualBox and wanted to test drive OpenSUSE.

It seems my video drivers are not correctly installed. However, I'm not sure how to correctly install them.I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, nVidia Geforce Go 7700.
I just installed 11.04 and I knew I would have to install the NVidia video drivers. So it was no surprise when it popped up a warning and dropped me into Gnome Classic view. So I turned on the NVidia drivers and rebooted. In my desktop selection menu on the login screen I have "Ubuntu" and "Ubuntu Classic".
Unfortunately they look exactly alike, with the Gnome panel along the top, and the panel with the taskbar, desktops and recylce bin on the bottom. I've gone back-and-forth a few times and nothing has changed. Some changes in one environment is not set in the other, like they really are 2 different environments.
According to the Software Center, Unity (not Unity 2D) *is* installed.So how can I boot into the Unity desktop?
I would like to know the best way to swap out video cards from ati to nvidia. For example. In windows, I would uninstall the driver, switch the cards, boot into a low VGA windows session and install the new drivers, reboot done.
In sues, I'm wondering if I uninstall the drivers, after rebooting I might loose my Gnome desktop. And I guess at that point I'd be looking at a blinking cursor?
HVR on Ubuntu 9.10 the capture card is streaming data in on /dev/video0 however nothing I've tried seems to be able to open the device, so far MythTV, tvtime, totem movie player, and others. The drivers in /lib/firmware appear to be the ones specified for this usb attached device.
lsmod seems to list a bunch of the relevant modules. There's something on the forums about "recompiling the driver" - anyone have any instructions on how to do that? Note, no usb device is shown on /media however if I do cat /dev/video0 > temp.mpeg a file is produced which media player can't display?
Feel stuck between Debian and BSD worlds - not sure where to turn.
Running GNU/kFreeBSD debian 8.1-1-amd64 and base system working. Can not get X or xrandr to co-operate and use proper resolution of 1680x1050. I believe the basis of this is that it using the VESA drivers and instead should be using the INTEL drivers.
I have no 'pkg_add' for ports, plus obviously no Debian repos will help for this .... unless there are some specific kFreeBSD repos I dont know about? I can post more details on the system, but am hoping that there are other options besides compiling. I can do that if need be, but not even sure which one to use. Will these work on this system? So after I installed the ATI Radeon 3400 series video card in my machine, the Xserver cant start! after it loads, it takes me to the init 3. When I tried startx, the screens either go blank or doesnt let me.

I wanted dual monitors but now I cant even get one. The xwindows doesnt appear.
Things I tried: 1. Deleted the xorg.conf and reconfigured (didnt work). 2. sax2 -r -m 0=versa (didnt work) 3. reconfigured the ATI radeon driver from init 3 (didnt work) 4. copy and paste the oold version of xorg.conf (didnt work) 5. tried to run set apt or dpkg-reconfigure command (commands not found) 6. tried xconfig and prompt the best I coudl (didnt work). 7. aticonfig commands (As shown in website) (also didnt work)
I have the live CD to run it from there but I dont know what to do once I get to the terminal.
Is there any way I can revert to previous configuration since the ATI driver gives me some problems? Like a restore function in windows?
How or what files I should change for the X-server to run properly (is there any other file than xorg.conf?....)
The monitors I have: 2009W Dell Monitor 1398 Dell Monitor (I wan to get the dual exntended monitor but it seems to gave me only the mirror image, thats why I tried to reconfigure the video card)

modinfo -l shows a ton of different video drivers, from matrox to ATI. Are all these drivers currently loaded my kernel, and is it ok to disable all but nvidiafb (since my system if 100% nvidia)?
I once had rock solid systems running opensuse. The hardware hasn't changed, but the system certainly has. The last time I could describe my systems as rock solid, was before the more or less forced move to KDE4. They've been anything but solid since, and it seems the more updates, the more things that get broken. I have two systems involved (a third is my server, so far unaffected). I have a desktop system that I built (4 years ago) on an Asus motherboard using an Nvidia chipset. The second is a laptop, a Lenovo T500 with both ATI and Intel graphics.
First, the upgrade to 11.4 broke the ATI video on the laptop. Tried everything, the proprietary ATI driver as well as the radeon driver. Learned online about adding the 'nomodeset' option, which got the video to work...if I could put up with random freezes, jerky video, and a desktop that refreshed in waves. Broken. Period. Gave up, switched the system one last time to the Intel graphics and never looked back. The ATI graphics on that laptop is unusable. Fortunately, I had the option of Intel or the laptop would still be unusable to me.
On the other hand, the upgrade to 11.4 on my desktop system running nvidia graphics went without a hitch. I was even pondering the idea of seeing if I could swap out the ATI graphics on the laptop for an Nvidia board. Then came this weekend's updates, which broke the Nvidia drivers. Yes, it would still boot up to a desktop, but I had a black desktop background and all of the configuration windows I opened came up completely black. Spent a couple of hours removing/reinstalling drivers. Uninstalled the Nvidia drivers and reinstalled.
Switched to the open source drivers. After numerous attempts, with the system unable to boot to X at all at points, I finally achieved an apparently functioning system with the nouveau driver. If the objective of the developers involved is to drive people away from linux and/or render opensuse unusable, well, they are doing a wonderful job. If I were not the technically inclined individual I am, I would have had no choice with either of these cases but to abandon the operating system for something else. It's ridiculous and counterproductive.
