I am watching streaming video via Firefox and Flash player. The data rates are too slow so I am getting choppy audio and video. How do I download the clip so I can play it back later. The video is coming from a tourism web site.

I am using opensuse 11.2 Gnome. Screensaver is spoiling video streaming and I have to manually stop it every time. There are options in media players to stop screensaver but when I watch videos online it seems like there is no global option to stop it. Is there a way to resolve this issue?

Does anybody know what has happened to Kino - the video capture utility? Used to be packaged by packman for Opensuse but doesn't seem to be available for 11.2.
Is there an alternative I can use for video capture - or has packman just not gotten around to adding this yet?

I was recently turned on to grooveshark by a friend and I would like to capture a couple of the songs from there. I was told about cplayer by someone but I'm not sure if it does that/ has that feature. Also, I read that cplayer uses some other way of using the hardware on my computer (there's a name for it but I don't remember). I'm worried about putting something on here and having problems with sound with other things on my computer too.
Basically I'd just like to find something I can use to do this though. Something easy to use.
By the way, I'm using Ubuntu 11.04

I'm trying to capture a video from a site in Japan. Unfortunately, most of the video downloader tools don't seem to work. Since I'm using Firefox I'm guessing I can't look in my local cache. Is there any way to find it?They might block you if you're not in Japan. I used to use a proxy server when I was in the US but after a while it didn't work.

I'm wondering if there is a method for leaving the screen saver set to appear after, say 4 minutes, but to NOT have the screen saver activate during a streamed video. For example, any time I wish to stream a video through Firefox, I must open screen saver settings and deactivate. I was wondering if there is some way to maybe lower the priority for the screen saver below Firefox or Flash player, etc. Or if there is another work-around that is simpler than monkeying with the settings every time.
I haven't noticed this problem when using media players to mount local files, such as vlc. I'm running 64-bit KDE 4.6.4 Tumbleweed (from 11.4), FIrefox 4.0.1, Linux 2.6.39.1-33-desktop x86_64. Last 'zypper dup' was done yesterday, 6/28. Sorry if I forgot any important info.

Amarok's video applet isn't working for me, it tries to play a selected video but only shows a blank background in the applet. This function worked in earlier versions of Amarok / KDE. I've tried Gstreamer, VLC and Xine phonon backends with same result. I don't think it is codec related as video/flash playback is fine in other apps.Currently using Suse 11.3 x86_64 / KDE 4.5.5 / Amarok 2.4.0 with xine backend

I am trying to record a test video with my built-in webcam, using Cheese. However, after I click "Start recording," the Cheese screen turns black, and Cheese seems to hang. I can click "Stop recording" sometimes -- then I get a split-second video clip. But mostly it just hangs until I force quit.
I'm on an Asus 900HA. I could record video clips on using eeebuntu and Cheese. Is there a setting I need to check?

After last updating I'm coming across some issues mainly about web browsing: I get different text fonts than usual (on Google search for example, but also on some web sites) and small fonts appear with a sort of halo... Moreover I get some difficulties in video streaming: after a while it stops with no apparent reason...

When I play a video web stream full-screen, the image randomly freezes. I can still move the mouse and hear the audio, but I can't click on anything, and I can't get out of full-screen. No keyboard commands that I know work, and so I end up having to hold down the power button to kill the machine.
This didn't happen in Ubuntu, so I'm pretty sure it's not a hardware issue. And I changed the power management settings to do nothing, but it still happens. So, I don't know what the deal is. Should I try a different flash player (I have the adobe player as default)?

There is an internet page that displays streaming videos (TV shows) that are not detected by most Windows and Linux downloading software: Orbit, Replay Media Catcher (Windows) or Video Downloader, Downloadhelper, etc in Linux (ubuntu)
In Windows the only program that I managed to do the job with is "Stream Transport", and got .mp4 files that I could watch later. But I don't have windows anymore, it is corrupted. In ubuntu, however, the many firefox add-ons, stand alone programs that I tested, don't see the video file. In the source of the page I don't understand anything, everything is concealed under javascript text... The video is not saved in the firefox cache.
How can I capture it? Does anybody know how to deal with this kind of well-concealed video files? In theory, it should be possible to record everything that comes into the machine, but how?
P.S. By TRICKY I mean something non-standard (not ....., dailymotion, etc).

video playback is like I have applied a blueish sepia filter over it. And this is just the playback from totem player or mplayer, and not the playback from ..... (and generally online streaming) - this works just fine. this messy video playback also appears when I use cheese to capture video with my webcam. Note that the preview picture of the video file on nautilus has the natural colours it should have.
at first when I installed the os this particular problem didn't exist, but it came up the time I decided to follow the "comprehensive multimedia guide". So now I have all the pros of following the guide, but this is a major con...

I am fed up of listening to my (Windows XP) gaming computer through headphones so I want to get it hooked to the stereo.
Rather than use a heck of a lot of wire, I can sit my Ubuntu 9.10 netbook on top of the stereo and stream the audio across WiFi.
So, ideally what I am after is something to capture the outgoing audio on the Windows computer, stream it across the wifi to the Ubuntu netbook and finally play it through the speakers.

OS: Opensuse 11.4..I am currently using skype for 1 to 1 video chat, although for more than 2 people, it requires that you purchase a pro version or a day pass to use this feature. Is there a freeware application that allows you to have multiple people for a video chat. In the past I know this feature was available for Yahoo messenger, although this was in the days that I was still using Windows.

i am currently using monkey webserver on my linux machine for my website. I just recently found out that you can also stream music if you direct the web address to a folder inside the directory. The problem is when i try to click on a .avi all it wants to do is download the video instead of playing it in the browser or playing it in windows media player. What can I do to make an .avi to stream from my linux machine ( note this is for private use only so i can stream movies on my lunch break or when I am at a friends house this is not to share my stuff to the general public)

The sort of add on for Firefox 'download helper' now has a new screen capture thing, in case it won't download the video from a particular site. You click the red button and a purple boundary appears round the video frame. I assume this is the basic function of the thing; it then provides the geometry of the purple frame to the program you've given it to capture the video.
By default the program it uses is 'recordmydesktop'. I've tried using this but get sound from the laptop's internal microphone, not the video. Tried 'pavucontrol' to remedy this but it says (wrongly) that no program is recording, so can't put things right.
So tried using ffmpeg: [URL]
Assume the stuff in curly brackets is what download helper supplies. Sometimes works perfectly but with B.BC. i-player only get the top left hand corner of the video and it is stretched somewhat horizontally.

I'm building a Linux system specifically for video capture in prep for yet another video games review site I want to attempt. She is running Debian Sid with Enlightenment as her desktop. This system actually has two different devices that should be able to do the capture from the Wii, PS2, XBox, and other systems that can connect to it. The first is the video card itself, an ATI Rage 128 Pro AGP 4X, which has TV (aka composite) in as well as what I am guessing is S-Video in (not positive on that since the port has significantly more than 4 pins unlike the S-Video ports on my AV switch). The other is an external ATI TV Wonder USB TVWonder, which has coax, composite, and S-Video inputs.
When I installed and ran XAWTV, it crashed with a complaint that there was no video grabber device found. When I did lsusb, I saw that there was no sign of the external USB capture device. lspci showed the video card, but no mention was made of its TV capture feature. However, I am not certain if there was supposed to be any separate entries for that.So anyway, before I start bogging you all down with what may or may not be too much system data, I first need to know, is this an exercise in futility with the hardware I have? Is video capture with Linux even possible with these, or should I start shopping for something else?
