OpenSUSE Hardware :: Unable To Change Nvidia Settings?

Sep 4, 2010

I'm having the following problem with SUSE 11.3 and my Nvidia Geoforce 7300 GT. I have the driver installed but am unable to change the resolution in the Nvidia configuration X-Server. It seems it is limited to the following 640x480 and 320x200. fix this as it looks awful and I know that I should have greater resolutions.

Please find my xorg.conf listed below

General :: Unable To Change A NVIDIA Control Panel To Adjust My RGB Settings

Jan 23, 2011

In a previous version of UBUNTU I was able to enter a NVIDIA control panel to adjust my RGB settings. Now I'd like to change it slightly but there doesn't seem to be a NVIDIA control panel. There used to be two of them. After installing the video driver, If I tried to go into UBUNTU video settings I would get a console message stating I now need to use NVIDIA control panel and would automatically open it for me.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Nvidia-settings Won't Install From Rpm

Jul 19, 2010

I am extremely disappointed in this 11.3 release. openSUSE had a system that worked. I never had a major problem with the Nvidea video drivers before this release. When I did have a problem with the drivers (usually because Nvidia screwed up) I was able to easily use "The hard way" to install the drivers and all was good. But now the system is so screwed up that the drivers wont install. I can't find a working Saxx2 anywhere. nvidia-settings won't install from rpm. What the hell is going on? This release should have been held up until this garbage was fixed. Novvaeu (sp?) won't work for some of the programs I want to run.

I probably changed so much stuff that I bet my system won't boot now. Oh and what happened to the lack of repair software on the install disk? For two versions now the only repair option we have had is the command line. That's great if you use those tools on a regular or semi regular basis.

Ubuntu :: Unable To Change Natty Clock Settings In Unity Menu Bar?

Apr 27, 2011

I recently upgraded my clean install Ubuntu Studio 10.10 64bit to Natty 11.04 and whilst everything is working well (except for having no plymouth boot splash - but I'm looking into this) I have noticed that when I log in to the "Ubuntu" desktop (with the Unity launcher and Menu bar in the top panel) I can't seem to change how the time and date is displayed. It seems to be stuck showing 24 hour time only with no date no matter which setting I select in the 'Clock' tab of 'Time & Date Settings' menu.

The clock applet works perfectly when I log into the 'Ubuntu Classic' desktop and I am able to display the date and weather ok.

I have a laptop which I upgraded from Ubuntu 10.10 64bit to 11.04 as well and it doesn't have the same issue.

I thought it might have been a rouge Gconf setting so I dumped my entire gconf using

Code:
gconftool-2 --dump / > ~/Desktop/allgconf.entries

then restarted into recovery and removed my ~/.gconf folder entirely, rebooted again and logged back on. Apart from losing some settings like Evolution and Networking, which I reloaded, and my theme going back to the default theme, the problem still exists.

OpenSUSE :: Nvidia Settings Hangs - Whole Desktop To Freeze For About 5-10 Seconds

Oct 28, 2010

Sometimes, running "nvidia-settings" will cause the whole desktop to freeze for about 5-10 seconds, spike the Xorg CPU usage up to 100%, until the settings appear where everything goes back to normal.

Running "nvidia-settings" from a terminal does not show any output and restarting X does not help. Any ideas how to figure out what is happening, any places to look for log files?

I am using an up-to-date openSUSE 11.3 (64-bit), KDE 4.5.2, an NVIDIA GeForce 9800GT and the proprietary NVIDIA driver 260.19.12, which I installed manually following the instructions from

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Keeping Nvidia Settings - Can't Get My Wallpapers To Fill The Desktop

Mar 11, 2010

I have read and read and googled for my specific problem and nothing exactly matches. I have a Nvidia 8400GS, running SuSe 11.1, kernel 2.6.27.45-0.1.1,, Nvidia Drivers 193.5, KDE 3.??. It seems like about every third or fourth time I boot up I have to rebuild and install the Nvidia drivers (the hard way). When I get up and running again, use the Nvidia Control panel and save the settings to Nvidiaxxxxxxx.RC file. Why does this keep happening, any suggestions or threads that might answer this problem?? Also I can't get my wallpapers to fill the desktop, they are tiled sometimes and I can't change them. One other thing is I am having trouble with the screensavers, they won't start, and I like to delete some of them?

It works well. But the problem is Korean font. Actually BEFORE installing the language, the font look much nicer. But as soon as I installed the language, the font became ugly.Even if I uninstal the language, the font still remains the same (ugly).
Where is the font setting for other languages stored? It would be nice if I can set default fonts for Korean language manually.

General :: How To Change Default Display Settings On OpenSuSe

Jan 30, 2010

I'm using OpenSUSE as a guest OS in VMware. Display settings are 1400x1050@60Hz but I want to change them for 1440x900. Using root account I go to Configure Desktop -> Display -> 1440x900. The first problem is that I can't choose 60Hz, only "Auto" or "0.0". I click Apply and the resolution changes, but if I reboot the computer or just logoff... resolution goes back to 1400x1050. My card and monitor properties: [URL]. Another strange thing is that if I click Ok on the Card and Monitor properties (changing from one resolution to another), I can choose to "Test" it, and xfine2 appears but... it ALWAYS says "1400x1050". OpenSUSE Hardware :: Install Graphics Card - Change The Settings Of And Monitor?

Aug 22, 2010

the solution of my monitor is much to small. So I tried to find out, where I can change the settings of my graphic card and monitor. Unfortunately opensuse only gives me the possibility to change it up to 600x800, which is by far too small. So I thought maybe I need to install a driver... so... there I am ... having question marks around my head and wondering how to install a graphics card driver on my opensuse 11.3.???
And where to find the right ones?

My graphic card is a Matrox Mystique (no 220 or anything else!!). I checked the website of Matrix to find my drivers, but it tells me that there is no driver planned for linux. Matrox Graphics - Support - Latest Matrox drivers for legacy products But I guess I am not the only person in the world who uses this graphic card on linux, so there must be a way to make it work!!

Ubuntu :: Change File Permission Settings To Force All Documents To Inherit Parent Document Settings?

Aug 21, 2011

i have a computer with 3 users on it, and a folder using samba that everyone on the network has access to. Lets say that, the folder is stored in /etc/sharedfolder. What happens is, when user1 puts a folder in it, then logs off, user 2 attempts to modify it and fails, because permission is set to 755, and they are not in the same group. (even if they were, it should still need to be 775) Anyway, my current solution is, every 5 minutes a crontab changes permission like so: chmod 777 -R /etc/sharedfiles && chown useradmin:superadmin -R /etc/sharedfiles Which works, but seeing as there is getting close to a gig in there, this is a bad solution, as it eats up the computers resources. Solutions that i think might work:

1) create a script that only changes permissions that need be changed.
2) change file permission settings to force all documents to inherit parent document settings
