Nov 17, 2010I deleted the firewall files "K09SuSEfirewall2_init", "K01SuSEfirewall2_setup", "S11SuSEfirewall2_setup" and "S01SuSEfirewall2_init" from "/etc/rc.d/rc5.d" in order to disable the firewall when rebooting.
As a consequence all network services are not working. I can't connect to any other machine nor to the internet.
I rebuilt the symbolic files based on the ones for runlevel 3, but still no network services are available.
Any suggestions how to make it work again? I'm using Suse 11.3.

Jul 17, 2011I installed openSUSE on one of my work system. The network port wasn't working when I was installing, but works fine now (checked in Windows). But for some reason, I am not able to configure the network. I used both Dynamic and Static IPs (both work fine in Windows) but still no go. I am using Yast Control Center for this purpose. I can't even ping the default gateway when I am using custom settings. When I use dynamic settings, it says Unreachable Network.

After completion everything worked fine, though I have some issues with the NIC. been looking on the net and the provided solutions haven't been able to resolve the matter. I have to delete the unknown device everytime after a reboot in order to get a new IP address. After that all works as it is suppsed to. I've been looking into the /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules and deleted all that was in there,
OpenSUSE Network :: Two Network Cards With Different Settings For Internet Access
Feb 9, 2010I have a desktop computer running OpenSUSE 11.2 with two network cards installed. I would like to use both cards for connecting to the internet using different networks. The setting would be the following: eth0 is the main (default) card, almost all programs should use this NIC for connecting to the internet. eth1 is used only by a few programs, which have setting for selecting which network interface to use. The two NIC's are connected to different networks, so the IP address of the NIC's, the related subnet masks and gateways are also different.
Saying short, I would like to have the two NIC's as they would be in two separate computers. I can set the IP address and subnet mask of the NIC's. The main problem is that I can only declare one gateway. How can i setup this? I do not use network manager, I configure network cards using yast, but if needed I can of course use ifconfig directly.

Jul 17, 2010I just installed openSUSE 11.3 (Gnome). I am using Korean language, but I don't want to make Korean language as my default language. So I installed Korean lang as secondary language. It works well.But the problem is Korean font. Actually BEFORE installing the language, the font look much nicer. But as soon as I installed the language, the font became ugly.Even if I uninstal the language, the font still remains the same (ugly).
Where is the font setting for other languages stored? It would be nice if I can set default fonts for Korean language manually.

Jul 5, 2009I'm on openSUSE 11.1 KDE 4.3 RC, and I'm using the kde-branding-openSUSE with KDM from the factory KDE repo, and factory community repo - everything is up-to-date.For some reason my KDM login settings screen is ALL grayed out, so I can't change the theme/settings. I know that you can change it by going to yast and editing the /etc/sysconfig thinghich I actually tried doing, and failing, which is odd because I changed it once a ltime ago to glassified, but can't manage to do now...) I don't want to use a theme, though, but actually use my current wallpaper and set the settings in the login manager to something of my preference.

It seems it is limited to the following 640x480 and 320x200. fix this as it looks awful and I know that I should have greater resolutions.

General :: How To Change Default Display Settings On OpenSuSe
Jan 30, 2010I'm using OpenSUSE as a guest OS in VMware. Display settings are 1400x1050@60Hz but I want to change them for 1440x900. Using root account I go to Configure Desktop -> Display -> 1440x900. The first problem is that I can't choose 60Hz, only "Auto" or "0.0". I click Apply and the resolution changes, but if I reboot the computer or just logoff... resolution goes back to 1400x1050. My card and monitor properties: [URL]. Another strange thing is that if I click Ok on the Card and Monitor properties (changing from one resolution to another), I can choose to "Test" it, and xfine2 appears but... it ALWAYS says "1400x1050". I'm mainly interested in changing the default print resolution and the pages-per-side layout setting I can change the settings for all KDE applications through [URL], but I can't seem to be able to find the respective dialog for Firefox / GTK applications.
Firefox itself doesn't seem to have a dialog for the printer default settings; I've looked into about:config but all the value names are rather confusing.

Jan 15, 2011I have recently played around with Mac4lin a program to change the interface to one that resembles a Mac computer. I did not like the settings then decided to uninstall the program. It reverted to a really ugly looking gnome desktop rather than my previous settings. One thing that I don't like is that I have a foot icon on my gnome traditional menu button on the panel rather than the green ball type icon I used to have. I know it's not the end of the world that my icons do not look like it previously did, everything else is running smoothly, though I'm just more annoyed than anything else.

Jul 15, 2010In testing that all my bits of hardware work I have come to my 3Dconnexion SpaceNavigator. The hardware is virtually new and works absolutely fine in XP (that is what I am trying to escape from).
When the spacenavigator is plugged in it works absolutely fine so long as I move the thing with a soft feather. It is so sensitive that it is un-useable.My problem is that although the system has recognised it and has it in the hardware scan in YaST but nowhere can I find any way to change the sensitivity settings and button functions.

Aug 22, 2010the solution of my monitor is much to small. So I tried to find out, where I can change the settings of my graphic card and monitor. Unfortunately opensuse only gives me the possibility to change it up to 600x800, which is by far too small. So I thought maybe I need to install a driver... so... there I am ... having question marks around my head and wondering how to install a graphics card driver on my opensuse 11.3.???
And where to find the right ones?
My graphic card is a Matrox Mystique (no 220 or anything else!!). I checked the website of Matrix to find my drivers, but it tells me that there is no driver planned for linux. Matrox Graphics - Support - Latest Matrox drivers for legacy products But I guess I am not the only person in the world who uses this graphic card on linux, so there must be a way to make it work!!
Ubuntu :: Change File Permission Settings To Force All Documents To Inherit Parent Document Settings?
Aug 21, 2011i have a computer with 3 users on it, and a folder using samba that everyone on the network has access to. Lets say that, the folder is stored in /etc/sharedfolder. What happens is, when user1 puts a folder in it, then logs off, user 2 attempts to modify it and fails, because permission is set to 755, and they are not in the same group. (even if they were, it should still need to be 775) Anyway, my current solution is, every 5 minutes a crontab changes permission like so: chmod 777 -R /etc/sharedfiles && chown useradmin:superadmin -R /etc/sharedfiles Which works, but seeing as there is getting close to a gig in there, this is a bad solution, as it eats up the computers resources. Solutions that i think might work:
1) create a script that only changes permissions that need be changed.
2) change file permission settings to force all documents to inherit parent document settings

Jan 8, 2011once upon a time i manually entered my ISP's DNS servers in /etc/resolv.conf Now i have changed ISP, my old DNS setting are still present even though i have edited my resolv.conf file to my new ISP's DNS servers. Internet still works fine, i just want to use my new ISP's DNS as my old ISP will be closing its doors very soon. Am i doing something wrong, or better put.forgot to edit another file..? I did do this a while ago, so i apologise in advance for my incompetence. I'm stilling running 11.1 / Router has DHCP configured. my resolv.conf file is below

OpenSUSE Network :: 11.4 Subversion Proxy Settings ?
Sep 16, 2011I installed openSuse 11.4 (KDE). It was excellent - everything was working great except for Subversion which use to work fine on 11.3 (command line is broken on 11.4, Eclipse/Subclipse works fine on both).
Subversion kept going to the proxy server instead of going directly to our internal Subversion server. I tried (1.) setting the proxy settings in Yast with excluding for our Subversion server, (2.) tried adding the usual settings in ~/.subversion/servers (which worked fine in 11.3). I could not check out on the command line from the local server, I can check out from external servers, eg: Google.
(I installed from the live CD download. I think this is using something some plasma widget thing for the network management.) Why is Subversion not using the usual ~/.subversion/servers file for its settings in 11.4 (KDE)? What is it using and how can I make it not use the proxy server? (Someone else mentioned his Subversion only started working after he used some Chrome plug-in to change the proxy settings but had no idea why?)

Sep 13, 2010i just installed open suse 11.3 after using linux mint 7(based on ubuntu 9.04).i am currently using two internet connections at home, the first is a vodafone mobile modem, which is workind excellent, and the other is a LAN network, that on windows uses a *.exe program to run. i managed to make all the IP, NETMASK, DNS settings and the internet connected, but without the .exe program it just disconnects after 10 minutes.this is the same thing that happens with the connections on windows if i start the computer and not run the "net.exe" program, but if that program is running the internet connections works just fine. i tried using wine to run net.exe, but it just gives an error message.
