View 2 RepliesI just installed oS11.3 on a new Aspire Revo R3610 which has the Intel Atom 330 chip and Nvidia ION graphics.
I noticed that the CPU is always running at 1600Mhz and doesn't throttle down when there is no load. Do the Atom cpus not throttle down or is there a setting in 11.3 that I can change?
I installed the 64bit of oS 11.3.
is there a way to make the cpu fan turn faster at certain speed when the cpu temp. reaches lets say 65 or 70c automatically thru a script or config file ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have an old AthlonXP-2600+ running at 2.078 Ghz which I was assured would do 2.6Ghz, but actually doesn't and 2.178 Ghz is what we settled on. I have 266mhz ram on a board with 333mhz FSB and we sorted that out also, and specified the ram speed. That sounds like under 10% of a speed increase, if any. But the previous kernel I built here took 55 minutes (time make -j4). The one I built after the mods (nearly same config) took 33 minutes. (make clean; time make -j4) 40%? I've clearly improved or fixed something.
bash-4.1$ sudo grep BogoMIPS /var/log/messages |tail May 15 14:37:32 genius kernel: Calibrating delay loop (skipped), value calculated using timer frequency.. 4193.78 BogoMIPS (lpj=2096890) & later.
I am trying to get the time of my wall clock from my wireless driver in form of "hh:mm:ss", so I used the function get_rtc_time() inside my driver to get that and it was done. My question: Is it possible to increase the accuracy of this function, for example if I want to get the milliseconds and the Microseconds in additional to the first output? If not, Is there any other function can do that?
View 3 Replies View RelatedLast week my ping was 45 this week its 80. I've checked it on three different computers, and reset my router. I called verizon (my subpar isp) they run a few test, say every things fine. I recheck my ping, its back to 45 but only last 5 mins after they check it, then it goes back to 80. I'm always having problems with them, but every time I call them the problems "just so happen" to go away while their helping me.
Anyway, my question is... Is there anyway for me to increase my ping/speed without upgrading my internet? I have 3.5 upload, .75 upload, and a Westell model 327w. I know this is a general question and not really linux related but I thought I would try this forum first since its always so helpful. I have googled this subject but I only find windows related stuff that pertains only to the programs running on the machine. They suggest things like "dont download when you want high ping" and "temporarily turn off seeding for your torrents" It is most important in windows for me though, I like to play games and a difference of 50 and 110 ping does make a difference. Of course, everything seems slower, like streaming movies and stuff.

I installed the newest version of ubuntu, which makes the whole thing running unbearable slow. Under windows xp it was running ok, my question therefore is: which version would you guys recommend that needs less ressources, but still has comparable functionality to the new version?

How do I increase the mouse speed in Ubuntu Linux? Running Gnome 2.30.0. I've already maxed out Pointer Speed Sensitivity in the Mouse Preferences control panel. I am not interested in increasing the Acceleration. Is there a config file I can edit to boost it past what the control panel allows?
I know that this mouse can track faster because it does in Windows.
I am curious if it is possible to use multiple hard drives to increase server speed. I know I could run stripped drives or RAID0, but was wondering if there is any other way to do it within Linux. My default 9.10 Server install has 3 partitions as a default. Would splitting these on three drives make it any faster?
View 3 Replies View RelatedIs there anyway to increase the speed of scrolling within the unity launcher? Like when you have more icons than that fit inside of your screen. I know you can just go to the scrunched up icon and hover it and it will appear, but is there a way to increase the scrolling speed when using a mouse wheel? It seems a little slow for my taste.
I think I seen a "bug report", for this, which really isn't a bug, but more a desired option to customize the unity launcher. Just wondering if this has been figured out, or even possible.
Nothing big, but just trying to tweak ubuntu a little more LOVE IT!
I'm a very new Fedora user, and I've stumbled upon an issue which I can't seem to resolve. Having had a good look through similar issues, I'm still stuck.I have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo M3438G laptop, upon which I've recently installed Fedora 14. It seems to work great apart from one thing; CPU speed. The processor in the laptop should run at 2GHz. At the moment, it's running at 600MHz, and I simply can't get it any higher.
I've played around with power profiles a bit, not really knowing what I'm doing, but the issue seems to be that the CPU is somehow reporting to the Operating System that it's top speed is 600MHz.The BIOS on this laptop is very limited, and doesn't give me any clocking options whatsoever, so I can't manually set things like multipliers, etc.So, I guess my first question would be - how does the OS find out what the processor speed is, and is there any way of manipulating the top speed? Surely there must be a way for Speedstep compatible processors to exceed their initial clocks?
I am using FC 2.6.31 kernel and am tying to bring up a SDIO network card. I am not able to change the SDIO clock speed which is by default 50MHz.I have to bring it down to somewhere around 25Mhz to make the card working smooth. How can we set the host clock speed from our driver in this kernel.

after maybe half an hour, the wireless download rate drops to about 110ks (and runs happily at up to 20x this until then). At that point, it will never pick back up above that rate unless i disconnect and reconnect. Once the problem occurs once, its like to reoccur about every 5 to 10 minutes until the machine has rebooted.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI just wanted to know if having my laptop set to ondemand, will this affect performance in any way? I realize it increases the clock speed to performance when the CPU is under load, but does the time it take to go from ondemand to performance affect speed? Will there be any noticeable difference between the two setups? I have a dual core intel at 2.2GHz when in performance. When ondemand is set with no load it downclocks to 800Mhz.
View 7 Replies View Relatedplaced for the decision to by a quad intel processor with more speed i was searching the internet for a 3ghz quad as i stumbled on a artikel saying overclock a q6600 from 2.4 to 3.0 ghz in 30 seconds I only had to set the frontbus speed to 1333 and vcore to 1.325 memory 800 / 8 gb had to be set to dram=1.9 ht=1.3 nb=1.3 sb=1.3
Speedup the videocard i set the pcie to 124 mhz And all is running rocksolid ..... video and vlc video 3 tab on google-chrome i had a load off 13% on the cpu's no video problems what so ever and no overheating no more as 49degr C Total cost 0 $ and 10 minutes editing the bios and some reboots.
I recently switch from Windows 7 to Ubuntu 10.04 and then to 10.10. When I had Windows 7 running I was overclocking via manual settings in my BIOS. I am almost positive I had the same overclocking settings in my BIOS when I had 10.04 as well.
For some reason though when I use the same settings with 10.10 it tries to but up, but it just says it will restart in 30 seconds. I have no idea why. I know the overclock is stable as I have been using it for a year or more. This seems to just happen when I got 10.10.
I am looking for an app that behaves like CPU-Z for windows, because I am desperately wanting to overclock my CPU. However, I don't want to do it without a CPU monitor that monitors heat/clockspeed/voltages/etc.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI'm using a very simple conky script to diplay the date and time on my desktop. I've noticed that he conky clock is a few seconds early compared to the time displayed in the right hand side of the top panel (Natty). I guess both displays are based on the same "internal" time, so I'm left wondering how this could happen, and how to sync back the clocks.
It seems that Conky is in sync with the system date, while the panel clock is 2 seconds late (on my system). Checked with while true; do date; sleep 0.1; done
Just curious as to if it is possible to have the clock in the center of the task bar centered clock in Ubuntu 11.04?

I recently purchased a replacement CPU & motherboard and, with a grand after-market CPU heatsink and fan, was able to create a stable overclocked system of 3.8/3.9GHz (from a stock of 3.2GHz).
However, when I run, say, Code: Select alllscpu, Code: Select allcpuid (after installing said package) or Code: Select allless /proc/cpuinfo it only lists the stock speeds of 3.2GHz.
What would be the best way within my operating system to view my current clock speeds?
