Networking :: SDIO Host Clock Speed In FC 2.6.31 Kernel ?
Mar 25, 2010
I am using FC 2.6.31 kernel and am tying to bring up a SDIO network card. I am not able to change the SDIO clock speed which is by default 50MHz.I have to bring it down to somewhere around 25Mhz to make the card working smooth.How can we set the host clock speed from our driver in this kernel.

I'm a very new Fedora user, and I've stumbled upon an issue which I can't seem to resolve. Having had a good look through similar issues, I'm still stuck.I have a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo M3438G laptop, upon which I've recently installed Fedora 14. It seems to work great apart from one thing; CPU speed. The processor in the laptop should run at 2GHz. At the moment, it's running at 600MHz, and I simply can't get it any higher.
I've played around with power profiles a bit, not really knowing what I'm doing, but the issue seems to be that the CPU is somehow reporting to the Operating System that it's top speed is 600MHz.The BIOS on this laptop is very limited, and doesn't give me any clocking options whatsoever, so I can't manually set things like multipliers, etc.So, I guess my first question would be - how does the OS find out what the processor speed is, and is there any way of manipulating the top speed? Surely there must be a way for Speedstep compatible processors to exceed their initial clocks?

I am new to the forum and new to Linux.
I am trying to explore if Linux can be run on a multicore platform when the max frequency of one the cores is less than the others.
please give me some pointers or let me know if you have tried such HW configuration.

I just installed oS11.3 on a new Aspire Revo R3610 which has the Intel Atom 330 chip and Nvidia ION graphics.
I noticed that the CPU is always running at 1600Mhz and doesn't throttle down when there is no load. Do the Atom cpus not throttle down or is there a setting in 11.3 that I can change?
I installed the 64bit of oS 11.3.

I have an Ubuntu 10.10 host running in VirtualBox 4.0.8 r71778, and I need to setup a LDAP authentication network between two VM's: a Maverick-based distro and Ubuntu Server 11.04.
Screenshot of the two running perfectly fine:
[URL]
Using NAT, I can have the two VM's up and running on VBox, but they get the same IP (10.0.2.15).So I googled it and quickly found out that I needed to change the VM's network interfaces to Bridged Networking. So I tried that. Here's two screenshots of the default configurations:
1- Ubuntu Maverick based distro:

2- And here is one of the Ubuntu Server:

(I'm Portuguese, that's why there are mixed languages in the UI)It's pretty stupid to explain like this, but whenever I try to start one of those two using Bridged Networking, I get a black screen full of errors (I can't take a printscreen of that, so I took a bunch of pictures - yeah, it's lame, I know ). Then, I have to press the power button to shut down my host, and restart the pc.Here they are:

Where I think the problem is:

My host is currently running Linux kernel 2.6.38-10.I have dkms, linux-header-generic and build-essentials installed (and the VB extension package too)And my host is a laptop, connecting to the internet using the router my ISP provided me.How can I solve this? Is this some kind of bug regarding 2.6.38-10 kernel?I don't have other pc's to test my LDAP authentication, so I needed the two VM's to have different IP's.

I just wanted to know if having my laptop set to ondemand, will this affect performance in any way? I realize it increases the clock speed to performance when the CPU is under load, but does the time it take to go from ondemand to performance affect speed? Will there be any noticeable difference between the two setups? I have a dual core intel at 2.2GHz when in performance. When ondemand is set with no load it downclocks to 800Mhz.

I am trying to install vmware server on CentOS: In vmware installation guide it says before intalling:
Before you begin, read the following notes and make adjustments to your host system: The realtime clock function must be compiled in your Linux kernel. The parallel port PCstyle hardware option (CONFIG_PARPORT_PC) must be built and loaded as a kernel module (that is, it must be set to m when the kernel is compiled).

In regards to compiling a custom kernel:
When using make menuconfig - under Device Drivers --> Character Devices --> there should be an option with the label "Enhanced Real Time Clock Support" (CONFIG_JS_RTC).
The problem is that this option seems to only show up while using the menu method when other options are either enabled or disabled and I've entirely forgotten what should be what. I swear fingered it out once.
This is on an older computer (P4) so HPET is no good.
You would think that disabling the HPET option would enable the RTC option but that does not appear to be the case.
I understand I can just add the option to the .config file and avoid this hassle but I'm very interested to know how to make this work.
To show my appreciation I will do something nice for you such as call you a nice name or tell you that you are pretty (or ugly if that's what you prefer).

I am working on a cluster for a molecular dynamics class and I have to edit my FORTRAN code (only the newest and best for me!). In order to get through to the cluster I have to ssh in. The network on which the cluster resides is behind a firewall, so I have to ssh through the firewall into the network first.
this is fine, I can login and move files and folders as needed, including sftp-ing into host 1, then into the cluster so I can transfer files from cluster to host and then host to me. This gets rather tiresome, so it would be nice to edit the files in place.
The problem is that when I access my code with emacs it launches the emacs client on Host 1, with no mouse support. I know the purists will howl about how I should be using keyboard shortcuts, but I am a chemist and not a programmer, so the mouse is very nice for me. Is there any way I can perhaps mount the cluster using sshfs so that when I open my code it launches a local instance of emacs? Sorry if this is the wrong forum, but I thought it was network related.

I got a bunch of machines (~10) that I share with my co-workers. I have appropriate .ssh file(s) set up so I don't get prompt for password when I try to ssh.Currently I ssh into these hosts and then do a top to check the load before I start using the machine. Because I don't want to be on a busy host.Can someone show me how to write a script that find a least-busy host given a list of hosts to check? (hardcoded is fine)

The internal network is behind nat done by the PC Router.The TP Link is recieving wireless signal from outdoors and it has switching and basic routing capabilities. I'm using the PC router for better routing options.PC Router (or R for short) is a triple-booting machine - Linux, FreeBSD and Windows. It has two lan cards - external (ext_if) - 100Mbps Realtek 8139 and internal (int_if) - 1Gbps integrated Realtek 8169.The problem is that all traffic from R to the network is slow - about 5-20K, while the traffic in the oppoiste direction is all right - about 10MB that is fine for 100Mbps cables, NICs and switches. The problem persist no matter the OS the pc R is running.I've tried some debugging on the situation as follows:
- put another PC at the place of R - everything is fine. That exclude the possibility of damaged cables, RJ-45s, switches and etc.
- connected both of the NICs to the Internet while the internal network is being disconnected and they both work fine (no delays)
- traffic shaping is not running
- there is nothing in firewalls except NATing the internal network (and it is working fine). Actually these firewall rules have been operational for more than months and everything was fine untill a week or two ago.
- changed the internal NIC with another
- connected the internal network directly to the TP and all of the PCs are getting good network performance. Then connected the R machine to the TP as well and there was good performance between the internal network PCs and R.
- R has good performance to the TP. In fact everything has good performance directly to the TP (when not connecting trough R).
- the problem persist only between R and machines from the internal network.

I'm looking for a good kernel guide for practical tips on how to compile my kernel for better speed. At the moment I'm using genkernel under gentoo and just taking the default options (with a splash). This compiles for ages and takes a good while to load.The kind of things I'm looking for are advice on:Removing modules from the kernel that are not loaded during normal use.Core components which can (and should) be loaded as non-modules for speed of boot.How to save and load kernel options so they don't have to be repeated every time I want to compile a kernel.

FreeBSD 8.0 host no inbound ports open
Both hosts are running sshd currently. What would you do for the Ubuntu host to be able to ssh to the FreeBSD host? A tunnel?

I'm using a very simple conky script to diplay the date and time on my desktop. I've noticed that he conky clock is a few seconds early compared to the time displayed in the right hand side of the top panel (Natty). I guess both displays are based on the same "internal" time, so I'm left wondering how this could happen, and how to sync back the clocks.
It seems that Conky is in sync with the system date, while the panel clock is 2 seconds late (on my system). Checked with while true; do date; sleep 0.1; done

I had cloned a centos 5.6 installation from virtualbox virtual machine to physical box. Everything work fine. However, the time showing in os using date command differs from bios time by roughly 4 hours. I am running ntp services which sync the time with another centos server on the network. It appears that some services are using virtual clock and some use physical clock. How do I get rid of virtual clock and only use physical clock?

I got this problem ever since the 13.1 slackware64 release this has been annoying for months the slackware64 installed in a vmware workstation guest machine, the problem is that when the host (real pc) entered sleep while it resumes from sleep the guest vmware workstation running slackware64 13.1 the kernel starts to crash and broadcasting error messages inside the Konsole in every single tabs, here I attach the trace of kernel fault in dmesg.txt I hope it will get fixed next slackware64 release.

I am cross compiling a linux kernel for the mips platform. I have installed the tool chain and everything. When i try to build the kernel i get the following error message.
HOSTCC -static scripts/basic/fixdep
scripts/basic/fixdep.c: In function traps
scripts/basic/fixdep.c:377:2: warning: dereferencing type-punned pointer will break strict-aliasing rules
scripts/basic/fixdep.c:379:4: warning: dereferencing type-punned pointer will break strict-aliasing rules
[Code].....
If i set up the toolchain on a fedora 13 machine with the exact same procedure, the cross compilation works fine. I can't figure out how this can be fixed. I am currently considering downgrading to fedora 13 due to this.

My problem is that I can't setup a diskless environment with CentOS 5.4 (server) and CentOS 3.9 (hosts). On the host, I've recompiled the CentOS 3.9 kernel, with these mods:
- added kernel level IP autoconfiguration;
- added NFS file system support;
- added Root file system on NFS;
- added e1000 driver (the host has a gigabit network card);
Then, I have followed the guide at this link: [URL]

With me, chrome and chromium tend to finish loading/rendering (whatever numion.com/stopwatch measures) the pages usually in less than 5 seconds. All the other browsers, in contrast, will take usually at least twice that time, and it's not uncommon to take up to 30 seconds for something that chrome/chromium didn't take 10 seconds. (My connection speed is ~4 MB/s)By "all other browsers" I mean mainly opera and iceweasel (I assume that other gecko-based browsers like iceape and kazehakase would fare similarly), because konqueror, arora, midori, and netsurf will do even worse. I didn't test text browsers.Is that the usual pattern for everyone, or I must have something wrong on my setup?
