OpenSUSE Hardware :: Lirc Not Yet Functional In 11.4?
Mar 13, 2011
Has anyone got LIRC up and running on 11.4? There are some basic built-in remote functions from imbedded IR drivers in kernel but no specific LIRC functionality. Will 11.4 need lirc-kmp-desktop etc?
I`m new to openSUSE.Before openSUSE I used Ubuntu for almost a year but I decide to switch to openSUSE 11.2 KDE. Everything works great, but I cant get lirc to work or to recognize nu remote:Logitech ultraX. I don`t understand how to configure lirc in openSUSE or what packages is required for lirc to work, I know that I must manualz add file in lirc for my remote but I don`t know where to find them or how to use them. If someone could guide me step by step try configuration procedure.
24 hours ago kaffeine, vlc, smplayer and mplayer were all functional. Now after a software update only smplayer is functional. Kaffeine has been my favorite player since version 0.97 but recently only vlc would play all formats of videos so I got used to it. All packages have been installed from packman. Kaffeine now crashes with...
socket(): Address family not supported by protocol ion@apollo:~> 1 errors in postprocess string "hb:a,vb:a,dr:a" [mpeg4 @ 0x874d700] Invalid and inefficient vfw-avi packed B frames detected KCrash: Application 'kaffeine-xbu' crashing... And mplayer crashes as well with a report that's too long to post. Well I can live without mplayer. What am I doing wrong. Accepting updates perhaps?
I am not able to play certain movie files with MPlayer since a few days: Code: MPlayer dev-SVN-r32749-4.4-openSUSE Linux 11.2 (i686)-Packman (C) 2000-2010 MPlayer Team Can't open joystick device /dev/input/js0: No such file or directory Can't init input joystick mplayer: could not connect to socket mplayer: No such file or directory Failed to open LIRC support. You will not be able to use your remote control.

I am not sure which filetypes are affected by this bug, but I can play *some* files. The specific file here used to work a few days ago. Code: kalle@hoppers:~> file somefile.wmv somefile.wmv: Microsoft ASF The only major thing referring to multimedia in the past few days I remember is installing 'h264enc' from Packman, however, meanwhile I uninstalled this package, yet the problem persists.
Code: kalle@hoppers:~> grep h264enc /var/log/zypp/history 2011-01-15 20:11:53|install|h264enc|9.2.4-0.pm.1.1|noarch|root@hoppers|Packman|c5bd1d534726472929134e5acc8f66492c52c51b 2011-01-20 22:06:20|remove |h264enc|9.2.4-0.pm.1.1|noarch|root@hoppers The only way of solving this was moving MPlayers config, but that did not help either.
Xine also is not able to play this video: Code: kalle@hoppers:~> xine somefile.wmv Dies ist xine (X11 gui) - Ein freier Video-Player v0.99.6. (c) 2000-2007 Das xine Team. [wmv3 @ 0x8f78060] Extra data: 8 bits left, value: 0 xiTK received SIGSEGV signal, RIP.
I home-made the exact configuration detailed on the lirc.org webpage for making your own IR receiver. It's all wired correctly, I'm just not sure that the serial port is working like it should. I've used a voltmeter to determine that the voltage regulator is working and all.....
I've got LIRC configured with the home-brew IR receiver, and a Haupauge remote. I run irw and NOTHING happens no matter what remote I point at it. I've used test leads to see the effect using a remote on the unit has, and it seems to be working correctly, so either a driver or config file isn't working correctly. I've read a BUNCH of pages but simply don't know enough to troubleshoot any further on my own.
I have an older Compaq MT D220 with 2.4 GHz Celeron proc and 756 MB RAM, with F14 installed exclusively. I've yet to get Skype completely functional under these conditions. The loopback audio only test usually produces no sound or very broken sound. I tried upgrading my DSL from 3MBps max downstream and 0.5MBsp max upstream, to 6MBps max up and 1Mbps max down - to no avail!
System Monitor shows CPU and memory are below 100% utilization, and Skype's real time call stats show 0 packet loss. Perhaps using a leaner GUI than Gnome? I'm happy to report that as expected, other than this Skype issue and some lingering DVD-ROM and BackupPC issues, this old HW is much more tolerable with F14 than Windows XP!
One of the dedicated servers that I have does not seem to have the service 'named' functional: root@server2 [~]# service named start Locating /var/named/chroot//etc/named.conf failed: [FAILED]
Note that the double slashes (//) ARE part of the output as well as the long gap before [FAILED] appears. This 'named' service not being functional is not a problem which is preventing the server / the application on it from working. There are entries in /etc/resolv.conf though.
Running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. It's running as a media center box (Boxee amd mythtv), and also as a Asterisk PBX box. I have the box directly connected to my TV without a keyboard or mouse connected.
Is there a way to setup LIRC to flip through the icons on the desktop (similar to using the up/down arrow keys on the keyboard), and initiate a program with the remote? Would prevent the option of using remote desktop to open up or close a program
I have been working to try and get lirc to work with my Winfast 2000/XP. I keep getting an error that the kernel module isn't loaded. This is on Ubuntu 10.04 x64. When I try to start the service, I get the following:
I tried everything here; [URL].. When I try to use the Nuvoton IR Receiver it completely locks up the system and I need to chroot into the file system and disable lirc just to get booted again. Does anyone have LIRC and the IR receiver working on this box? I also went through the list and tried all the cir receivers in the lirc list. Here is the hardware info;
Code: description: Desktop Computer product: To Be Filled By O.E.M. vendor: To Be Filled By O.E.M. version: To Be Filled By O.E.M. serial: To Be Filled By O.E.M.
"synclient -l" though shows a long list of already set values, the touchpad is not working properly. How can I prevent this dual loading of drivers ? Kindly enlighten me , so that I can have a properly working touchpad. If any more info is required, then please ask me. There is no xorg.conf. I tried to generate one by "Xorg :1 -configure", but the generated file did not have any section related to touchpad.
at first I have to apologize for my poor English, but I'll do the best to explain what I need. I've got two webservers. One with CentOS 5.5 and the other one with Fedora 14 (both x86_64). There is the same configuration/compilation of LAMP.
These are the configurations. They are the same on Centos and Fedora. But as I said. the FcgidMaxProcessesPerClass doesn't work (I'm testing it trough ab), even that I see Server API - CGI/FastCGI in phpinfo(). I've been fighting this problem whole week and I'm a little desperate,
I've had issues with the network manager bundled with KDE4 for a long time (cant connect to wireless or VPN networks, so I have to use the gnome network management applet in KDE to get networking on my laptop...)Has anyone here tried the 4.4 RC/Beta and noticed any fixes for it? Its a known bug, which has been around for quite a while now.
I have Ubuntu 9.10 set up on a 40 GIG HD. For upgrade purposes I would like to copy my /home directory to another directory. That way I can completely wipe my operating system without losing my programs. Can someone show me an easy way of doing this... ALSO once done, after I installed the, say, next upgraded operating system how would I tell it to look to the other hard drive for it's /home directory?
i just installed lucid lynx last weekend (reinstalled it and my w7 os a few times actually after the upgrade from 9.xx to 10.04 went horribly awry).
get my dual monitors working? i have a PNY NVIDIA Quadro FX 380 low profile card which has dual monitor support and am trying to get my dual displays set up but when i go pref>admin>nvidia xserver settings, this gives me the following msg:
Quote:
you do not appear to be using the NVIDIA X driver. Please edit your X configuration file (just run `nvidia-xconfig` as root), and restart the X server.
so i opened a terminal and did this:
Quote:
sudo nvidia-xconfig
which tells me:
Quote:
Using X configuration file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf". Backed up file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' as '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup' New X configuration file written to '/etc/X11/xorg.conf'
i then restart ubuntu (that's what i'm supposed to do to"restart the X server", right?) and i get a startup error that wants to put me in low graphics mode, but actually ends up not in low graphics when i start.
I have a dv9000 and the internal webcam is not functional. Since skype is defaulted through "/dev/video0" and not changeable, my usb webcam deosn't appear in skype. However, cheese and webcam studio both use the usb cam. how do I go about booting the internal webcam off of " /dev/video0" to be able to use skype with the usb webcam?
I recently installed CentOS 5.4 in my laptop. Initially I had difficulties in getting the machine up and running. So I went with the option of installing just the bare bones of CentOS 5.4. I did this by clearing all selections that are shown by default when you load CentOS 5.4 CD 1/6. This installed just the kernel and created only the root user. Right now, my laptop boots up in command line and I can login only as root. I would like to know if there is any document or any web URL that explains how to get a fully functional system from the scratch. Something like an installer manual or check list with instructions. Is there any document that you can refer to in situations where you have to manually install the drivers and configure the system because of some odd combination of hardware the machine has.
I HAVE THOSHIBA satellite L500 lap with rtl8187 wireless card..but it's not working on fedora12...
I am able see out put of command modinfo rtl8187. But when I am using lsmod |grep rtl8187 I can't see anything. I updated my kerenel...any way the module is there that's why it's showing modinfo..But it's not loaded. module is at /lib/modules/$(uname -r)/kerenel/driveres/net/wireless/rtl81xx/rtl8187.ko
I am using Squid server on my Red Hat Linux machine.Squid is functional and clients are access through proxy.I want to ask that if I want to open my squid.conf file for any changes should i first stop squid and then do the changes .
to anyone that can help. new to linux. impressed just not sure how to get my broadband dongle to work in linux. in windows it runs automatically. i am with linux ubuntu which picks it up but i cannot run the setup.
I am using Fedora 9, I have compile the squid with source code, i also deleted the old RPM of squid. i then edited the squid.conf in /usr/local/squid/etc and set http_port 3128 transparent and allowed in my acl to my local network but the transparent proxy is not working. if i remove transparent proxy then squid works fine. when i try to make it transparent the squid access.log file does not show any request coming to it (no activity). i have also forwarded all the incoming traffic to squid port 3128. Can anybody tell me why my transparent proxy is not functional.
Alsaconf doesn't recognise any sound cards on my system, although the sound still works and can be changed with alsamixer. The USB speakers work perfectly well in KDE, where I can use the KDE utils to switch between the USB and built-in speakers. So I need a way to do the same thing from the command line without alsaconf or to get alsaconf working.

I am running Ubuntu 10.10 and am trying to get lirc to recognize my pcusa mce remote control. I have been working on this for a week and have not had any success. Please note that I am very new to Linux. I am comfortable moving around in the terminal but most of anything else that I do in the terminal is just following instructions.
This is the remote that I am using:
[URL]
When I run
cat /proc/bus/input/devices
I do not see anything that could be the remote. I have tried plugging the USB receiver into my Ubuntu 10.10 net book but it doesn't see the receiver either. I do not have a windows machine that I can test the remote on but I plugged the receiver into my iMac and I did get a red LED lit that I haven't seen on the Ubuntu machines.
When I run irw and press buttons on the remote I see nothing on the terminal.
When I run:
sudo mode2
I get:
mode2: could not get file information for /dev/lirc mode2: default_init(): No such file or directory
I have tried mode2 both with lirc running and stopped and I get the same response either way.
I have confirmed that there is no /dev/lirc but there is a lircd in /dev (it's not a directory). Also I had read somewhere that lirc doesn't work under Ubuntu 10.10. Is that the case?
I have recently built a new Ubuntu 10.10 (64bit) and installed MythTV and LIRC.I have correctly (?) configured LIRC for my specific IR Blaster on the serial port. Using the test send (see below), nothing happens - ie none of the pins on the serial port change state, and hence my IR Blaster hardware does nothing.
