the contact between the pencil and the tablet-drawing-surface does not result in activation. The only way get the pen drawing is by pushing the middle button on the tablet (there are a row of buttons in one side of tablet).By drawning in this rather awkward way a lot of unstable behavior is detected (freezing, drop outs etc.). The same problem occurred in ubuntu 10.10 with linux 2.6.37, in 11.4 with 2.6.38 and 2.6.39 it was gone. I believe that the problem might by in the kernel! In openSUSE i have this kernels 2.6.37.6 , 2.6.39.2 and 3.0.3.2. non of them seems to have the solution that makes the Hanwang work well.. Is it some kind of patch that are missing in openSUSE or is something not set up correct?
I'm wondering why everytime I install "recomended" updates, my KDE or X server crashes completely! is there any guide or advice you can give me to succesfully update only the packages that are really needed?
Ive been a ubuntu user for about 3 years now, but lately I wanted to find something new. Ubuntu is beginning to feel less and less like "linux". So anyway I am having a bit of trouble getting my gfx card working in suse. I have a AMD Radeon HD 6850. In ubuntu I just get a popup says that restricted drives are available, and i click to install them. but In suse im not quite sure what to do. I believe I have the drives installed correctly, but I get a AMD watermark in the bottom right corner of my screen saying my hardware is unsupported.
What is the easiest way to get the latest working drivers for my video card? and keep them updated properly with each kernel update like in ubuntu? btw, im running openSUSE 11.4 64-bit.
I know this has been asked before, but im a complete noob to suse and I cant seem to find a answer that im able to understand.Other than this issue with my graphics driver I love everything else.
I have my brand new Dell latitude e6410 delivered with Windows 7 already installed. I want a dual boot and I decided to try SUSE for the first time. I used the installation DVD, the installation seemed to end up well. The problem is that already at the first reboot, the screen went completely black. By pressing ctrl-alt-del I can reboot the laptop. It seems to me a problem with the graphic card.
My setup is: Dell Latitude e6410 Intel i5 m560 @2.67 GHz nVidia NVS 3100M 4Gb DDR ram Intel 82577LM Gigabit Network connector
If I start in failsafe mode, the X server starts, I have KDE, although with a somewhat sketchy graphic, I can use SUSE almost normally. The main problem in this case being that the system doesn't find any ethernet/wi-fi device, so I cannot connect to the Internet (I'm writing from Win7 right now). I tried choosing the default SUSE boot with the additional boot option "nomodeset" at the grub prompt. This is a suggestion mentioned in another post on this forum, although in that case the problem was coming from a bug dealing with an Intel graphic card. The system goes up but then kde doesn't start. I'm asked to lgin at a prompt. If I try to launch kde from command line (startkde), it complains that the variable $DISPLAY is not setup.
This is where I am now. I'm quite out of ideas, so I want to ask you few things. First stupid question: is the problem coming likely from the drivers of the nvidia graphic card? Second question: in that case, how can I fix it, considering that the linux partition is "isolated"? The fact that in failsafe SUSE doesn't see any network adapter concerns me a bit.
I m on ubuntu 10.04 and have a Trust tb 4200 tablet.. and having problems with my trust tablet runing on ubuntu.. i pluged in the tablet and to my amaze it started working right away until i pressed the pen on the tablet.. i cant seem to move the mouse curser anymore unless i touch the pen on the tablet. (wich acts as a click) so i thought that i may be missing the drivers.. i checked thes forum and there was a post to install the aptek drivers which i did (but still worked the same) and i found out thet there was no 10-aiptek.fdi (in "/etc/hal/fdi/policy/") so i created one and copied one from a post.. in [url]...3&postcount=50 but still cant move the courser without touching.. its like if it did no diference at all.. i also changed the values in the 10-aiptek.fdi with no changes.. the size of the tablet is just the size of the screen so i am using the full tablet.. and no buttons work...
I think the drivers are not workin.. in the synaptic it shows as intalled...
I have noticed they sell digital writing tablets that have the ability to show the pen strokes both on the tablet's display and on the computer's monitor at the same time, and I think they are called LCD digital tablets and they serve as both a second computer monitor AND a writing tablet combined in one, such as the Wacom Cintiq, and must be connected both by USB as well as with a VGA/DVI port, and you have the ability to open up a drawing application directly from the tablet such as Paint where you can draw or write on the tablet's display. And you can see what you are writing on the tablet's display. Then you save the results to a JPEG file, for example.
But I do not want a digtal tablet quite as elaborate as that. I am looking for something similar to the credit card terminals used in stores where you can sign your name directly on the display after swiping your credit card, and you can see what you are writing as you write. Then your signature shows up on a paper receipt later. Do they make digital tablets like that for the home user, and if they do, would they have to hook up to the VGA/DVI port on your video card? What are they called and where can I get one?
I've searched several online stores but they do not say if you can see what you are writing on the tablet's display. I already have a Wacom tablet in Linux but you can not see what you are writing on the tablet. I have to keep looking up at my computer's monitor to see what I am writing and proficiency is reduced as a result. And again, I do not want a tablet as elaborate as I described in my first paragraph. I want something simplier, such as the type used at a credit card terminal.
Upgraded to 11.04 and my graphical tablet is recognized no longer Any idea how can I set it up? Wizardpen is not working, the ppa on my repository says something about "Natty" instead of "Maverick" (As than before)

Omnipen OP-906 (ancient mid-90's device). It came with floppy with drivers for Windows 3.11 and old Mac Plugs into ttyS0 (com1. It has "tablet mode" and "mouse mode". It is meant to always start in "tablet mode", but if I give it a small power interruption (take out the AC plug from the wall halfway and quickly plug it back in), it sometimes kicks into "mouse mode". The original driver is supposed to be able to switch the modes
has anyone got their WizardPen based tablets working with Ubuntu 10.10? I have delayed my upgrade as long as possible hoping that the support would come along but no matter what I try the cursor just sticks to the top left corner of the screen.

So,no web2c/kpathsea-specific files.
It's a CTH-460. I downloaded the driver from the linuxwacom project and followed the instructions.
It doesn't work yet but lights turn on, and the pointer follow the displacement (no writing is possible). I have tested also in Windows Machine and it works perfectly well.
My machine is an ASUS VX2S and the distro is Ubuntu 10.04.
I installed OpenSuse 11.4 (x86_64) a couple of days ago.One of my Drives a PC-DVD RAM (Creative) is not working. This worked under 11.3.The SCSI drive is connected to a PCI/SCSI adapter (AHA-2904).The message I see at boot is:ata_id[443]HDIO_GET_IDENTITY FAILED /dev/sr1I also see the message ata_piix not found, and can not find an option in the kernel to provide this.This causes the system to wait a long time and slows down boot dramatically
I am with a customer who has Suse 10.1 in production environment and connected to the internet.For now I want to install denyhosts on this machine since I see lots of failed login attempts outside office hours.However when I do: python setup.py install I get the message File "setup.py", line 4, in ?from distutils.core import setupmportError: No module named distutils.coreI don't know how to solve this. I have a Rosewill RNX-N150pc wireless card that's been working great with Suse 11.2. But with 11.3, it's able to scan for my wireless network, and I see RX/TX packets moving, but DHCP isn't able to get an address. I've tried the 2010_0115_RT3562_RT3062_Linux_STA_V2.3.0.0 and 010_07_16_RT3062_Linux_STA_v2.4.0.0 drivers from the Rosewill site, and the rt3562sta-kmp-desktop-2.4.0.0_k2.6.34.0_12-1.1.i586.rpm package from Suse, all with the same result. I've even tried forcing an IP address on the interface with 'ifconfig', so my current guess is that the WPA-PSK security isn't working.
I dont want to wipe the whole drive, and i don't want to delete only particular files. I want to completely destroy all data in free space.I've found some articles about secure-delete package for linux that would allow erasing freespace with the command 'sfill,' but I can't find it in the repositories nor through google. This would be ideal but it seems maybe it's debian only.
Suse 11.0 nvidia software repository not working when the updater is run, and it gives an error message which indicates it must be out dated and no longer used. Here is the site in my repository for nvidia; [URL], I did try to add a new nvidia repository site with that Yast tool, but I could not get it to fully work. The new one I did find was as a ftp type, not [URL]. With this older Suse 11.0, and kernel 2.6.25.20-0.7-pae, then is it true that there may not be any more nvidia display driver updates available.? So then I should just remove that nvidia repository from the list, and be okay if the kernel does not update too much newer version, right ?
i hav a system which is never connected to internet. I had installed opensuse 11.1 from dvd.But the media files r not working. I had installed gstreamer all sets. And tried to install codecs using a .ypm file i downloaded from the opensuse server but not working without internet. I can download any files in other system and copy it to my system.
as a kind of luxory item I am thinking of adding a bamboo to my PC. Before putting action behind this, I wonder how much of a hazzle this brings about. Has anybody of you experience with 11.4 in this field? If a hazzle: Can anybody be bothered to compile the driver and provide it as a 1-click on the build service - or even in the official repositories? Would there be full functionality actually after all? BTW, I am aware of the wacom SF-site.
I decided to write here because I was wondering if there are any Wacom Bamboo (MTE-450) tablet users who experience any resume problems with their tablets on 11.3. I experience this issue on 11.2 - tablet was not working after resume from suspending to RAM - I had to replug it in order to make it work. Now when I upgraded to 11.3, the issue was still there.
Finally, I was able to "workaround" the issue by doing the following (found on some Ubuntu groups):

I am on ubuntu 11.04 and have had it since 10.10. For some reason when I am working on something whether it be on internet or listening to music after about 45 minutes of working ubuntu completely freezes and I cant do anything. Can someone please help me I really love ubuntu I just dont no any code so I tried researching the subject but dont understand the lingo and code.
In OpenSuSE11.2 I followed this url to got it to work: Genius MousePen 8x6 It worked like a charm. In OpenSuSe 11.3 the Xorg stuff is different. In /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d there is a wizardpen.conf but when I use the tablet the mouse hits the top left corner. Using the settings from the url above doesn't make it work either.
the new kernel 2.6.37 of 11.4 finally natively supports Waltop graphics tablets. However, I am not sure how to activate this driver. The tablet uses the usbhid driver on startup which is wrong.
Need to install a Wacom Intuos2 tablet. ALso Have a Canon MP620 multi-function printer that YaST does not see. It tells me that it is a bad port. I have pinged it and it is there but YaST won't let me install it.
After many days of messing around with various versions of drivers and tools, and building the drivers and tools from scratch and too many pages purporting to help get this tablet running, big breath, I have some advice. As the very first thing to check you need to look at /var/log/xorg.0.log. If the file wacom_drv.so loads you'll see:

What would be the preferred method to establish a remote desktop session from one 11.2 machine to another 11.2 machine in the same location? No firewalls, local connection only. I've looked at VNC, RDP with xrdp, have not been able to establish a session to desktop. I would rather not use desktop sharing if possible, don't want invitations involved. Want something similar to hitting from Windows with VNC3and taking over the established desktop session. This is in my house, no security risks involved
I first installed opensuse KDE, the i use SuSE - LXDE.org to passs to LXDE, now i want to know if there's a way to completely remove KDE from my pc not tu use Yast and select one package for time.
