OpenSUSE Hardware :: Dell Monitor Not Updating Properly

Aug 1, 2011

I have a dell monitor, E153FPf, with an intel chipset 865G. I just changed from Debian to Open Suse 11.4. In Debian, everything worked fine. However, with Suse, every time I open a new window in Gnome, the screen will flash at about a 1 Hz rate, showing the new window, and then immediately revert to the previously displayed window.

If I change to a different workspace, and then change back again, the display works properly . . . until I open or close a new application window.I made sure YaST2 had the correct refresh and resolution; I downloaded and installed the latest Intel drivers, I enabled the correct horizontal and vertical refresh rates in /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/50-Monitor.conf - all to no avail. I have searched around for answers, but most of the issues seem to be with monitors not working at all - not new or closed applications not refreshing the screen properly.

Hardware :: Touchscreen Monitor On Dell Laptop With OpenSuse 11.1?

May 9, 2010

I'm running OpenSuse 11.1 with a Dell Inspiron 6400. I just bought a Medion Multi-Touchscreen-Monitor cos they were going cheap at the local supermarket. It says the touchscreen works with Windoze 7 only, but I thought its worth a go as I have 30 days to try before taking it back.

The monitor output works fine. I had to adjust the resolution setting but that's okay. However, when I plug in the touchscreen usb lead I've no success yet. I tried all the touchscreen Vendor/Name options in Yast->Hardware->graphics card/monitor but to no avail.

My dmesg output is:

Quote:

usb 4-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 5
usb 4-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
drivers/hid/usbhid/hid-core.c: usb_submit_urb(ctrl) failed
usbhid: timeout initializing reports

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.3 - External Monitor On Dell Laptop - Picture Blurry

Nov 23, 2010

I have Dell Vostro 3300 with Intel HD integrated graphic card and Samsung SyncMaster 2343BW external monitor.

This is the output of xrandr:

It runs on 2048x1152 full resolution, however, the picture on the monitor is blurry, it vibrates and looks like old TV with interlacing.

I tried to disable output to LVDS screen on laptop using xrandr but it doesn't help/

Previously I had HP laptop with integrated Intel and OpenSuse 11.0 and the external screen worked normally.

Fedora Hardware :: External Monitor Not Detected - Dell Laptop - Monitor

Aug 17, 2011

My software and hardware information are as follows. I have Fedora 12 and KDE 4.4.5 installed on a Dell Vostro 1500 laptop. I believe it's a 64 bit processor; it's an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU. The external monitor is a Dell as well.

My problem is that my system does not seem to be detecting an external monitor that I have connected. Everything else is working just fine; however, I would like to have the option of attaching an external monitor. When I plug the external monitor into the laptop, the external monitor remains black and appears to be in power save mode. The results of xrandr -q (with or without the external monitor attached: it doesn't appear to change) are as follows.

Code:

How can I get my laptop to recognize that the external monitor is even connected? Let me know if I can be more specific or provide additional details.

Ubuntu Installation :: Reset Update Manager To Start Updating Properly?

Apr 17, 2010

I am having problems with my newly upgraded 9.10 distribution that keeps locking up. I had started a thread on that but along the way, I noticed another problem with the Update manager. I posted the following text in the same thread but realized that I must start a newer thread since it has its own issues (so sorry if you see this text in my other thread).I had upgraded from 8.10 to 9.04 with ISO image and then to 9.10 with ISO image. In between, I did not reset anything in the Update manager (the upgrades were within one day of each other). Since the computer was connected to network during upgrades, I also let it fetch any newer packages as it needed them.

After the upgrade, I started having system lock ups and it requires hard boot. I tried to check for any updates using Update Manager. It reported that system was up-to-date. However, I noticed in the Settings that cdrom was selected in Sources (perhaps because I had upgraded with ISO image). I unselected the cdrom and tried to update the packages. Since I upgraded using ISO image, there is some problem here about recognizing the repository perhaps. Do you think my problem may have stemmed from upgrading twice using ISO images and not resetting the Update Manager in some fashion in between? Although the system did fetch upgraded packages during upgrades. How can I reset the update manager to start updating properly? Perhaps Authentication is an issue?Of course, I am still having trouble with lock up.

An "Asus VK222S" monitor has been incorrectly recognized as an "Ancor Communications Inc 22" by a fresh Ubuntu 10.10 amd64 installation. This is causing a vertical band of about 5cm, in the middle of the screen, to be out of focus/blurred. The problem was not present with the same monitor on other systems.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Videos Won't Display Properly In Netbook Remix (Lucid) On Dell Mini 10v?

Jun 8, 2010

I recently got a Canon Powershot SD780 IS. It takes HD video at 780p. It's great, except that the videos won't display properly in Ubuntu Netbook Remix (Lucid) on my Dell Mini 10v.I've tried using Gstreamer (Banshee), Xine (Totem-xine), and MPlayer (GNOME MPlayer). These all should have worked, which makes me think something may be wrong either with the files themselves or my computer. Anyone have any idea what's going on here?FYI, when I pull up the Properties dialogue for one of the videos and look in the Audio/Video tab, it says:

Ubuntu Installation :: Black Screen After Updating / Like No Signal Is Coming To Monitor

Jul 13, 2011

I have just "finished" updating my Ubuntu 9.10. (somehow I knew that something is going to go wrong), and now my PC starts, works fine for a few seconds, then I get a black screen for a moment, and then my monitor starts acting like PC is off.Interestingly I think that otherwise everything is working just fine and that I just can't see anything due to the black screen (monitor is flashing like there is no signal coming from PC).

OpenSUSE Install :: Windoze Driver From Dell's Site Dell Inspiron 5160?

May 24, 2010

This card has been the bane of my existence for a while. In the old days I could get it to work with Fedora using a generic video driver. A friend recommended OpenSuse because of my love for KDE.

The good news is that install went greeeeat. But after that, I once again got a black screen with a line randomly done it. Is there a way to change? I tried changing those resolution options but it didn't work. I have the Windoze driver from Dell's site. Its Dell Inspiron 5160.

Ubuntu Multimedia :: Resolution Not Fitting Monitor Properly?

Since a fresh install of lynx, I've been having problems trying to get my resolution of 1366x768 to fit properly onto my monitor, regardless of what I try, the screen does not fit completely inside the monitor, and I have to pan around to view the entire desktop.

I haven't had problems with this in previous versions of ubuntu. I've tried all the nvidia driver versions in the repository, as well as the latest from nvidia itself and they all do the same thing.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Olevia Monitor Not Detected Properly?

Aug 20, 2010

I haven't manually configured XWindows in a very long time, so I'm not very certain what I need to do anymore. Hopefully someone can provide some guidance. I just built up a new system that I'm trying to connect to a 47" LCD TV that provides a VGA connection. When the computer starts booting all of the text comes up just fine (1 or 2 characters on the left are chopped, but otherwise fine). When I tried to run the installer for CentOS5.5 I ran into a problem. The monitor(TV) wasn't getting a proper signal to display XWindows. In an effort to keep going, I reconnected the PC to an old monitor and did the install from there. That worked no problem. I ran all the latest updates hoping that maybe this was fixed in a patch. I then shutdown and reconnected to my TV. no luck. When it starts XWindows the screen doesn't display anything. I've tried fooling around with modifying the xorg.conf and adding an explicit "Monitor" section and set it to 640x480 with a VertRefresh of 60 (which is supposedly an acceptable format), but no luck. Can anyone provide any guidance on how to solve this problem. BTW I do know that the VGA connector on the TV works just fine because I can hook up my laptop (Windows XP) to it.

H/W Monitor: Olevia 747i (when nVidia on my laptop detects it, it is reported as 747-b11) Motherboard: Biostar MCP6PB M2+ Motherboard - Socket AM2+, ATX, Audio, GeForce 6150 Graphics, SATA, RAID Graphics: Using the integrated GeForce 6150 chipset

Hardware :: Dell LCD Monitor Slow When Using Console?

Aug 5, 2010

The 14" (pretty sure of the size) LCD monitor is hooked up with "digital input" (not the VGA or whatever). I tend to use the console (i.e. ttyX) more than X windows, and it is extremely slow refreshing. A concrete example is opening a man page, or cat-ing a file go so slow it takes a second or 2 for them to fully display.

Is this a video driver issue? Here are some stats:

Ubuntu :: 9.10 With Graphics / 3D And Gnome-system-monitor Does Not Work Properly

Jan 11, 2010

9.10 Problem with Graphics/3D and other I have a Thinkpad T42, 1.7GHz, 1Gb Ram and a Radeon 7500 Graphics card. Everything that I am having trouble with works just fine in Ubuntu 9.04(except for the sound). There are two problems that I think are linked or really the same. First off, When I turn off Compiz(Compiz works by default) then gnome-system-monitor does not work properly. At least the graphics side of it; the window appears black with random lines running threw it. The same thing will happen to Gnome-do if Compiz is off.

The second problem is getting 3d support to work. I installed and tried to run blender and I got this from the terminal:

[Code]...

Then it ether does not open or the computer locks up completely and I have to force a shutdown. Which ever one it does I do not get my desired results. When trying to do chess in 3D it tells that I have 'No Python OpenGL support'. So I install the python-opengl package from the repositories; the program now just errors on start and I had to uninstall python-opengl to get Chess to work again. I have tried all this with Compiz on and off with the same results. Anyways thats about it, unless somebody knows how to setup the sound so a program won't lock it from other, then thats all I am having trouble with.

Ubuntu :: Dell E173FP Monitor Cannot Display Video

Feb 24, 2010

I have recently installed ubuntu using wubi on a dimension 9100 PC.When i boot up ubuntu I get a message that it cannot display current video mode when the GUI tries to launch. The monitor is a Dell E173FPb.From digging about on google it seems I need to edit the xorg.conf file? However, it doesn't exist in the /etc/X11 directory. Does wubi not create this file?

I then created a template of this xorg.conf with the "sudo X -configure" command. I then copied the created file to /etc/X11/xorg.conf and editied the Monitor settings. however, I still get the same error even when I put in the HorizSync and VerRefresh settings shown on the Dell webpage (31-80 and 56-76 respectively).
