OpenSUSE Hardware :: Acer T230H - Quanta - Touchscreen In 11.2
Jul 19, 2010
Had a heck of a time getting the Acer T230H touchscreen monitor to work on OpenSuse 11.2. I am documenting this for anyone else looking to get this working.
There are plenty of sites out there with information on getting this working on Ubuntu but none specific to OpenSUSE.
PREREQUISITES:
Make sure xorg-x11-driver-input is installed as need the evdev driver in /usr/lib/xorg/modules/input/.
Code:
1. Download and compile the 2.6.34.1 or higher kernel from The Linux Kernel Archives. See instructions here for compiling kernel.
When you run make menuconfig be sure to module"Quanta Optical Touch". Navigate to Device Drivers:HID Devices:Special HID Drivers:Quanta Optical Touch. Put a "M" for module.
Save config file and build kernel as per instructions in link above. hid-quanta.ko driver should be located in /lib/modules/2.6.34.1/kernel/drivers/hid/ if module was installed correctly.
2. Once you build the kernel and boot up with the new kernel follow the instructions below:
Edit /etc/udev/rules.d/69-touchscreen.rules
Add the following rules at the top:
Code:
Create or modify /etc/X11/xorg.conf with the following info:
Code:
If this is good you can test your touchscreen which should now be working. Be sure evdev driver is specified in xorg.conf and not hidtouch.

Okay where do i get the kdewebdev package with Quanta+? I have the oss repo enabled which is where i thought it was. But what i installed was kdewebdev in 2 packages. They installed and no Quanta. So then i found 'Quanta' and installed it. Still no Quanta.

I am trying openSUSE 11.3(KDE desktop) for the first time (also my first time with a linux OS). But i am trying to install the EgalaxTouch driver to get my touchscreen working. I have tried all the things from this topic: openSUSE 11.3 and eGalax TouchScreen but everytime i try to run the install.sh i get these errors no mather if i am directly logged in as root or using sudo in my command line:
I am busy from monday installing all kind of touchscreen drivers but they all won't install propperly (just like the original drivers they need the Xfree86-devel but i can't find it for openSUSE).

I'm running OpenSuse 11.1 with a Dell Inspiron 6400. I just bought a Medion Multi-Touchscreen-Monitor cos they were going cheap at the local supermarket. It says the touchscreen works with Windoze 7 only, but I thought its worth a go as I have 30 days to try before taking it back.
The monitor output works fine. I had to adjust the resolution setting but that's okay. However, when I plug in the touchscreen usb lead I've no success yet. I tried all the touchscreen Vendor/Name options in Yast->Hardware->graphics card/monitor but to no avail.
My dmesg output is:
Quote:
usb 4-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 5
usb 4-1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
drivers/hid/usbhid/hid-core.c: usb_submit_urb(ctrl) failed
usbhid: timeout initializing reports

Now that we are on Debian 6 it seems that Quanta Plus is not yet available because of it not running with KDE 4 ....?
I have blocked my main work horse on 5 that is ok, but I have upgraded my laptop to stable its nice and fast and very much more multimedia
But no quanta, I can use kate and have tried a bunch of other editors none manage projects like and are complete as Quanta I am totaly addicted to it!
I have tried having lenny and squeeze together in the source list but I get BIG dependencies problem and fear stability isuues as I am not sure what I am doing
I had an Idea of putting an Ubuntu 10.10 source in there as it works on that, any body tried this ?

I run Ubuntu Jaunty with gnome. I've become quite accustomed to using Quanta for editing website files (.css, .php, .html) etc. This is a KDE application so when I installed it, the software manager installed the KDE stuff to enable it to run. Today I switched the view of the quanta interface to "top level" from the window menu. Everything was working fine until I attempted to open a documenation window - then Quanta had some sort of error so I quit the application and tried to start it again - and it won't start.
I've restarted my computer to see if that would help, quanta still won't start when chosen from the Ubuntu Applications menu - no error message, nada.
When I try to start from terminal I get this:

I'm starting to get familiar with Quanta Plus (QP) on my Ubuntu 8.04 desktop. I created a file in Dreamweaver (DW) atop the Windows OS. Now I've opened it on QP running atop Ubuntu. But in VPL mode, I only see a blank page. Nothing has been changed.

My Quanta Plus can not access files on my network shares.I have my network drives mounted in /etc/fstab and they work great with all programs EXCEPT Quanta Plus. When trying to open any file on a network drive I get the following error: The file <filename> could not be loaded, as it was not possible to read from it. Check if you have read access to this file.I can use any other editor, Screem, Bluefish, gedit, pico, etc and open, modify and save files on these same network drives. Something I just realized is that Quanta Plus is a KDE app. Could it be that there is some KDE networking component that I am missing? This does happen to be a fresh Ubuntu install on a new computer. I have Quanta Plus installed on my old computer and it works fine with these same network shares (same fstab file), but over the years I have installed many programs on it and perhaps it has a KDE networking piece that hasn't been installed on this new computer.

I am new to this forum and would very much appreciate some assistance with a problem I am experiencing. I've just made the move from Windows Vista back to Linux after about a three year break from it and I am having trouble configuring the correct screen res for my wide screen monitor.
Some basic info:
System: openSUSE 11.2
KDE: 4.3.5 (KDE 4.3.5)
Monitor: Acer P191W 1400x900
Graphics Card: NVIDIA geforce 6100 nforce 430
Everything appears stretched, wider than it should be. At first I couldn't figure out how to change the screen res in Control Panel as it's missing the Monitor option to amend anything. After some reading on another thread I managed to access it as su , sax2. It detects the correct Monitor Model but does not offer 1400x900 as a res option. I also tried selecting LCD instead of a make and then selected 1440x900 as there is no 1400 option but this doesn't help things either.
I am a complete rookie so any help at all will be great. I thought it might perhaps be a driver issue as when windows are moved on the screen or if I scroll down a web page such as this it leaves 'artifacts'. Has anyone else experienced similar problems?

Had the RC versions of 11.2 running on my laptop but now the release version is out X no longer installs properly, it gets so far through the installation but then goes to a black screen which is totally unresponsive. If I force a power-off/on it only comes up in text mode and I cannot get X to start automatically. I can get startx to work if I manually reconfigure sax2 using 0=radeon but no way can I get this to happen at startup. Seems a very retrograde situation and something that completely got past quality control.
Probably the end of my time with OpenSuse having been a user for over 5 years, at least Ubuntu installs straight in with no problems whatsoever - exactly what I would have expected from OpenSuse.

While installing the openSuSE on my Netbook (Acer AspireOne D250) with a bootable thumbdrive Live image, the installation seemed to go fine, but after the installation was completed, there was no "network"! I checked and the system auto-sensed the drivers, but when I go into the network, even trying to manually set up the IP info, Yast reports NO NETWORK running!!
I then went out and bought a USB CD-ROM drive and installed using the boot CD (Network install) on the external USB CD-ROM drive. It booted up fine, and installed "RIGHT OFF OF THE NETWORK", but when the install was through, I could not access the network. Same error: NO NETWORK RUNNING!! Now I've installed openSuSE on this unit before (v11.4) and it worked fine (after I changed the wireless driver to the legacy driver) but this time it's NOT working!! My 13yr old son uses the Netbook, and was so excited to get to use LINUX instead of Windows ... until now.

I want to install OpenSUSE 11.2 on my Acer TimeLine 3810TZ which has no DVD Drive and it reports that it's written it A-OK.So I go to my laptop, enter the BIOS to give priority boot to the USB (It has Three USB entries, USB-CDROM, USB-HDD, USB-FDD, so I just put them all before any HDDs, figuring it'd cycle through them) and reboot with my stick in one of the USB slots.
And then it hangs on the BIOS. It lights up my USB Stick's activity light like crazy, but it never actually leaves the BIOS screen (POST screen). Any idea what's going on? I'm kind of stuck with Windows Vista, and we all know how bad that is

I have an eGalax touchscreen which I installed using the xserver-xorg-input-evtouch package. Now touching the screen makes the mouse pointer move in all sorts of random directions.
What I want, of course, is for the mouse pointer to move to the point where I touched the screen. Typically this is called 'calibration'. Maybe there's a program to run or something, but I can't find it. how do I calibrate my touch screen?
I'm running Jaunty 9.04 so there is no 'System -> Administration -> Calibrate Touchscreen' program.

You have probably seen the TV shows and films with the law enforcement agency, or the team at "Leverage" have a large screen with other side screens.
I don't have a holographic display, or even a 60" touchscreen, but I do have a TV, and a couple of computers running 10.10 and 11.04.
What I would like to do, using a mouse instead of a touchscreen, is "push" photos, videos, or dossiers on enemy agents to another screen or phone.
I would imagine it to be something along the lines of hot zones on the desktop, so that if I flick an item to, say, the right of the screen, it will leave my desktop and pop up on the desktop of the (networked, but separate and different) computer to my right, and if I drag / flick an item to the top centre it will Bluetooth it to my phone (which I'll set up to automatically accept any files from "my.desktop.homelan".
I had something a little similar with, I think, Compiz, in that if I flicked an item to the right it would dump it onto virtual desktop 2 (of four horizontal ones).
What search terms would I use in Google or Ubuntu Help to get me started? I can compile, but I'd rather not, as I'm not very good at it, and I can edit .cfg files as long as there are plain English descriptors ("Enable_Feature_Foo=1" "Fave_Place=/home/Me/fave/" etc).

The problem is the touchscreen is acting like a mouse. The cursor doesn't go to where I touch, it just moves around just like a normal mouse.
This Xorg.0.log shows this about the TouchScreen
Code:
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "USB Touchscreen 595a:0001" (type: TOUCHPAD)
(**) USB Touchscreen 595a:0001: (accel) keeping acceleration scheme 1
(**) USB Touchscreen 595a:0001: (accel) filter chain progression: 2.00
(**) USB Touchscreen 595a:0001: (accel) filter stage 0: 20.00 ms
[Code]....
the lsmod output tells me that the usbtouchscreen isnt being used by anything.

My touchpad works, but it is driving me crazy with how sensitive the tap to click feature is. I want to disable it altogether so I can actually work on my computer. When I go to the touchpad section in System Settings >> Computer Administration >> Keyboard & Mouse, the tab says "Warning: Touchpad configuration is not supported on this system. The synaptics driver is either not loaded or too old. Refer to doumentation for information about the required driver version."

I have Windows 7 and openSuse on my Acer Aspira 5532. I find that after using it, I'd rather get rid of Windows 7 all together. However, I want to be careful not to remove the partition that has the Windows 7 Reinstallation boot disk just incase in the future I wish to go back to Windows. Is there a way I can make my entire computer Linux (no dual boot) but also not deleting the Windows 7 reinstallation partition?
Further, can someone example why, on Boot, I have like 5 options to choose from? Like two openSUSE versions, failsafe, Windows 1, and Windows 2....? To be honest, when I installed openSUSE, I just did the recommended partition job that it suggested. I don't know much about partitions.
