Just curious if someone could help me with my issue, I've noticed that my internal mic doesn't work, and when I plug in headphones it stops the use of the speakers but I hear nothing through the headphones. I'm running openSUSE 11.3 and have had almost no major problems until this. I've searched around and asked a couple friends and have made absolutely no progress.
After upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10 internal subwoofer on my Acer Aspire 5930G laptop stopped working.
UPDATE and FIX: Problem was fixed after upgrading to ALSA 1.0.22 using instructions from this topic: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1046137 NOTE: be sure that ALSA driver was really updated using this commmand: cat /proc/asound/version, if not, see these posts: problem: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...&postcount=670 solution: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php...&postcount=678
I have a Gateway NV52 with an internal microphone and internal webcam. On Windows, both work fine, but on Ubuntu I can only get the webcam to work. I never used one on Ubuntu (using Karmic Koala 64 bit) before, so I may be overlooking something.
Code: 01:05.1 Audio device: ATI Technologies Inc RS780 Azalia controller
OS: Linux Ubuntu 11.04 Machine: Acer Inspire 4730z My webcam isn't working and I've done everything I could think of. I installed the v4l drivers and they installed perfectly and still it doesn't work.

If you notice in the terminal output to the lsmod command, v4l2_compat_ioctl32 is what I assume to be my camera, its being used by videodev and videodev is being used by uvcvideo but uvcvideo, the driver I need to use is being use by nothing.
I have been going crazy with this maybe someone can help me out. I realized that in 10.04 my internal mic on my Asus G51VX does not work.
I have already upgraded my ALSA Drivers using the latest 1.0.23, and in alsamixer it shows the iMic and Capture devices correctly, however in sound recorder and in Skype I get nothing but a low hissing sound. I believe this is a pulse audio problem and not ALSA since I didn't have a problem in Kubuntu 9.04 using ALSA which I had previously to this.
In sound config pulseaudio shows that there is only one input and one output device which I figure should read 2 input devices since there is also a mic jack on the laptop. Either way it is really annoying not to have use of the Mic.
Device is INTEL HD AUDIO ALC663 Simple mixer control 'i-Mic',0 Capabilities: pvolume pswitch penum Playback channels: Front Left - Front Right Limits: Playback 0 - 31 Mono: Front Left: Playback 31 [100%] [12.00dB] [off] Front Right: Playback 31 [100%] [12.00dB] [off]
When I turn the i-Mic on I can hear the echo of myself coming out the internal speakers but it still won't record anything even with the Capture control on and at full volume.
When I use alsamixer to turn "mux" all the way up and have my headphones plugged into the microphone jack (don't have an external mic... ) in the front of the computer, I am able to record things but the volume is greatly muted. Perhaps the external jack is set to default for the microphone instead of using the internal mic?
I also have the output for alsa-info.sh if you want it - this was mentioned in the alsa configuration file (/usr/share/doc/alsa-base/driver/ALSA-Configuration.txt). Info about alsa-info.sh here.
i have just installed ubuntu on my dell inspiron 1525 and my internal/ built in webcam is not working. I've downloaded applications that use it like cheese and skype and it does not pick it up.
i recently installed ubuntu on my netbook, an acer aspireone. got everything running properly. at first i had a problem with using webcam online for sites using flash 10 (facebook, videos, tinychat), but someone directed me to the adobe control panel and after setting some permissions, everything was working fine. yesterday, i installed a bunch of updates, and since then the built-in microphone stopped working in chat.
the microphone still works if i record audio or use it in other applications. but for all of the sites using flash for video chat (listed above) i can only get the camera working, not the mic. i don't get any error messages or anything different from before. the only difference is that no sound is coming through. i wish i knew which updates i've installed yesterday. one of them must have caused the problem, since it was working fine before then.
I've spent the last couple hours trying to figure out how to get my SoundBlaster XFi card working, but somehow in the process seem to have now also broken my on-board sound which when I first installed did work. I have no idea how as I hardly touched anything. Both cards are recognized in Sound preferences, sound is not muted there nor in Alsamixer. But neither produce any sound at all now.
Searching around the forums it seems that as of now my XFi should, kind of, work out of the box, but I've had no such luck.I'd really like any advice possible on getting my XFi with headphones to work in 10.04, but if this can't be done I'd atleast like to find a way to fully reset my sound setting so my on-board will work without having to wipe this partition and reinstall - there Must be an easier solution than that.
My Toshiba Satellite L305D is running Ubuntu 10.10. The internal microphone doesn't work - if I try to record something, I just hear some clicks. According to the terminal, my audio device is: ATI Technologies Inc SBx00 Azalia (Intel HDA)
When I click open alsamixer, the boxes for Front Mic, Mic Boost and Beep are empty. When I go to Preferences => Sound => Hardware I get a choice of Analogue Stereo input, output and duplex - as well as off. I go for duplex. When I go to sound => input, the microphone mute box in unchecked and the single volume bar is at a maximum. There are no choices - the one choice, Internal Audio Analog Stereo, is checked. As it's only once choice, it can't be unchecked.
I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 x64 and trying to use the built in microphone. I checked this thread: [URL] I've made sure my microphone isn't muted. I went through the troubleshooting steps here: [URL] And nothing worked. I posted the results here: [URL]If no one knows how to fix it, I'll probably just buy an external microphone.
yesterday i was on videos, and i had headphones plugged into the headphone socket on my laptop.i unplugged them a few times because they were needed elsewhere, but on the last time i unplugged them, the sound didn't return to the internal speakers. i plugged the headphones back in, and there was sound out of the headphones, but not speakers. i rebooted the laptop, still to find sound only out of the headphones. i then was very bad, and booted into wingdoze, and still sound only out of the headphones. i've tried doing the muting channels in alsa-mixer as well. muting didn't work. i've also tried cleaning the headphone socket with ispopropyl alcohol too. and removing the bios battery and battery and ac adaptor... just incase it will do a reset of some description. no. still nothing.
[code]...
edit: the "mute" media button light appears to be lit, however pressing it only feeds a software into the computer, and doesn't turn the light off. i'll try playing around a bit more. edit: i just discovered that if you hold down the m key on alsamixer to mute/unmute the "external amplifier" channel, the light flashes! this is beginning to look promising. edit: if i unmute the external amplifier before i log out, it stays unmuted until i log back in again. what can i do to stop it from muting as soon as i log back in again?
I just installed ubuntu 10.10 about 10 days ago, an experience that has been both amazing because its really hard for me to go back to windows already, and frustrating because I'm having a little issue: my internal microphone is not working.here is some relevant info:I had alsa 1.0.23 and decided to upgrade thinking it would solve my problems so I ran the script to install 1.0.24, and for a day or two I lost my sound, without getting back my mic, and just like that the sound came back.I read a lot of posts out there, and ,ade sure I unmuted my mic in alsa soundmixer and pulseaudio.
I've recently acquired a little 10" netbook (Acer Aspire One D255) and am running Debian squeeze on it. It runs great except for the internal SD card reader, which doesn't do anything. If I have a USB card reader handy then it works fine, but it would be nice to have the internal card reader working if possible.
/var/log/messages says this:usb 1-5: new high speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 3 usb 1-5: New USB device found, idVendor=0cf2, idProduct=6250 usb 1-5: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=4 usb 1-5: Product: UB6250 usb 1-5: Manufacturer: ENE FlashBut no device is created and nothing can be mounted.
Doing a little searching reveals many similar complaints from last year, without particularly satisfactory solutions, but I can't find anything more recent. Does anyone know if there's a Debian fix for this yet? By which I mean a simple fix involving adding a module package or maybe upgrading to a wheezy kernel or something like that?
While installing the openSuSE on my Netbook (Acer AspireOne D250) with a bootable thumbdrive Live image, the installation seemed to go fine, but after the installation was completed, there was no "network"! I checked and the system auto-sensed the drivers, but when I go into the network, even trying to manually set up the IP info, Yast reports NO NETWORK running!!
I then went out and bought a USB CD-ROM drive and installed using the boot CD (Network install) on the external USB CD-ROM drive. It booted up fine, and installed "RIGHT OFF OF THE NETWORK", but when the install was through, I could not access the network. Same error: NO NETWORK RUNNING!! Now I've installed openSuSE on this unit before (v11.4) and it worked fine (after I changed the wireless driver to the legacy driver) but this time it's NOT working!! My 13yr old son uses the Netbook, and was so excited to get to use LINUX instead of Windows ... until now.

I have a Sony Vaio VPCZ128. It has a NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M GPU with CUDA Technology (SPEED MODE) and Intel HD Graphics (STAMINA MODE) (switchable). The Processor is an Intel Core i7-620M with 2.66 GHz and the Chipset from Intel HM57 Express chipset.
Finally I successfully installed Ubuntu 10.10 (mainly following the advice on [URL] and using his kernel). Every thing is working fine including sound (still a few minor problems with backlight and Fn F5/F6). But I still desperately try to get the internal microphone running.
I have a SuSE server (sorry but no idea what version of SuSe it's running.. I'd take a guess at 10.0) on a network with several other SuSE servers. They are all able to be SSHed externally as well as internally and all have their local firewalls disabled. I just had to reboot one of the servers and it is behaving quite strangely. I am able to SSH in and out of it externally, but can't SSH in and out of it internally.
When trying to SSH out internally I get the message: "ssh: connect to host *.*.*.* port 22: No route to host" When trying to SSH in internally I get the message: "ssh: connect to host *.*.*.* port 22: Connection timed out" Using ssh -v doesn't give any more useful information.
I have double checked that the IP is correct and that the internal firewall is disabled etc. The external firewall hasn't got anything that would prevent it (and shouldn't be an issue anyway as it's an internal only problem... SSH externally works fine). Also, it might help to know that I have the same problem with ping. I can ping this server from an external system, but not from an internal one.
Just bought a laptop Packard Bell Easynote TJ61 with an internal sound card Conexant CX20561 (Hermosa) and successfully installed Ubuntu 9.10 64-bit. Only problem was that the microphone (internal and external) was not working in all applications (soundrecorder, audacity, skype etc). Output audio (eg- Rythmbox) worked fine with ALSA and PulseAudio.
Tried a LOT of stuff, but the decisive move was to add: options snd-hda-intel position_fix=1 model=laptop to the file /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and reboot.
My laptop's internal microphone doesn't work. I ran alsa-info.sh to collect data about my configuration.
Code:
Since the full info dump was a little bit too big to post here, I put the file in its entirety on Pastebin. I also noticed that KMix doesn't display any inputs/outputs...
I have Hp Pavillion dv4-1235ee Notebook PC with windows vista.there is no sound coming from internal speakers, 3d sound blaster pro compatible sound 16 bit integrated.
in compliance with bonekracker's advice, i have reposted my SOS. i have the result of the outputs of the commands for ifconfig, iwconfig, and etc i have uploaded it in the file output.doc. i hope this would be helpful in debugging my problem.but before that, i do notice that if i click on the icon for the Network Manager, the Wireless networks is set to 'wireless disabled'. maybe if i can make it turn on, my wireless problem will be solved.. its just that i even if i move the switch for the wifi, it still wouldn't turn on.
The internal microphone of my laptop Thinkpad T400 does not work after the new installation of fedora 15. I was trying to use it in SKYPE and could not get any sound recorded at all. However, when I tried arecord, sound is recorded, but is extremely low and not clear with lots of noise. The sound control seems to be different from before. Now available settings are
Code:
None Analog Stereo Input Digital Stereo Duplex (IEC958)
[code]....
And the 'Input' page seems not bad because I can drag the Input volume. However, the 'Input level' is empty, or only 1 bar even I drag the 'Input volume' to maximum.Analog Stereo Output and Analog Stereo Duplex (the one I am using) are the two give me output sound. But none seem to work with my internal mic. I haven't tried an external mic, though, because I do not have one. There seems to be no more "advanced volume control" that I used in Fedora 12. Also, there seems to be no more ALSA devices or PulseAlsa devices?
'#arecord -l' list my device as
Code:
Intel [HDA Intel], device 0: CONEXANT Analog [CONEXANT Analog].
how to solve this. For example, is there a way to get those ALSA settings back (well, I do not really understand what ALSA is and how it works but it did work when I had Fedora 12)? I do have a lot of packages named 'alsa*' installed.
We have a target board with intel atom processor(COM). OS : Ubuntu 9.04 But I am not able to hear the Internal speaker sound. ->pcspkr driver is present. ->Different tests were conducted inclding echo -e "a" , console-beep package ,writing to the port etc. ->Sound is not heard during system startup also.
I just installed version 8.1 on my c720 and everything works out of the box except the track pad. I am new to Linux so I am lost on how to check for the correct drivers or any other solution.
I have heard that the newer kernel versions added built in support but I am not sure if changing that will cause compatibility problems with any other program that I install later.
I've recently installed Jaunty on my Acer 5920 and I'm in love. Yet I can't get the wifi to work with my pathetic mortal knowledge of gnu/linux. Every time I enter the password to log into my wifi router it immediately asks me for it again not accepting it and I don't have clue what to do about it. I'm using a Acer 5920 with a Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG card
