Ubuntu Installation :: Mail Gets Delivered To Var/mail And Var/spool And Squirrelmail Is Not Pickiing It Up?
Mar 12, 2010i have a VPS running Ubuntu server 9.10 i have installed postfix and courier folloiwng a tutorial on How to forge.i have installed also squirrelmail When i ran squirrelmail , i tried to send a mail to myself to see if it was working. Mail appear in the Sent folder of Squirrelmail However, the INBOX was still showing no messages when i logged in to the server, i see that mail was delivered in var/mail/info (my username). so, my question is: why mail gets delivered to var/mail and var/spool and squirrelmail is not pickiing it up?

Mar 2, 2010Is there a way to change the mail spool location from /var/mail/ to some other place? I'm thinking of users own home directory or $HOME/.mail.
This is because system partition is not big enough to keep all mail from the company and /home is in a different one.
Creating another partition to keep /var or /var/mail seems too much just to keep emails.

Slackware :: Mutt Reads Mail Spool Very Slowly
May 11, 2011Running 13.37 with either the stock 2.6.37.6 or 2.6.38.4 from /testing and the stock mutt I am having to wait 3-8 seconds while mutt reads my mail spool. Hmmm on closer examination read speed is actually fine, pressing F5 to refresh shows the spool immediately. Some odd refresh problem, this with xfce.

May 20, 2011I was recently connecting securely to the website where I have my mail account, and I connected through Tor. When doing so firefox presents me with the screen saying that the connection is untrusted and it can't verify the certificate. So I cancelled. I'm using torbutton and I turned torbutton to off and connected again with no problem. Then with torbutton on again, same thing (untrusted).
Is it possible the exit node I was going through is doing a man in the middle attack? However later when connecting through tor I did NOT get the warning about the site being untrusted. I really don't know what exit node I was using when I got the certificate warning and what exit node I was using when I did not recieve the warning. I don't know how long I stay on the same node or how/when it changes.

Feb 28, 2010Iv setup a postfix mail server.. and setup my MX records within DNS. I configured the posfix mail server with the Mail accounts.I sent the accounts a test message. They end up in the Maildir for the user. But for some reason i cannot POP the mail server from a client. I can telnet to the SMTP server.. But cannot telnet to the POP3. Iv opened the ports in the firewall correctly. and even tried disabling the Firewall but when i try to Telnet to port 110 or POP port 110 i get an error saying "connection refused"

I've looked at VNC, RDP with xrdp, have not been able to establish a session to desktop. I would rather not use desktop sharing if possible, don't want invitations involved. Want something similar to hitting from Windows with VNC3and taking over the established desktop session. This is in my house, no security risks involved

The spool directory /var/spool/samba has been shared as a printer. What will be the harm caused by it? (I don't know who shared such). And I also wanted to know the security issue due to it..

I have installed a LAMP server with Postfix as mail server. The scripts send email as user www-data using the mail server on the same machine.
However, the email got rejected by external mail servers (failed reverse DNS check) so I setup a mail server that meets all needed requirements.
Now I would like to use this second server instead of the mail server on the LAMP server. I found that this could be done with changing sendmail settings in php.ini (I think).
However I am not sure how that will go: www-data is no actual user on the new email server (which requires authentication before sending). Do I need to create a new user on the email server or change the settings in php.ini to match an existing user?

How do I recover the situation. I do not have an up to date recovery disc. I do have a full bootup disc of Suse 11.2 - could I use the opportunity to update without losing all my personal files, or should I use the old 10.2 disks? The first essential is to get something back up and working.
