OpenSUSE Hardware :: 11.3 / Failure To Mount Sd Memory Card?
Jul 17, 2010
My SD card is recognised by OS 11.3 if it is inserted at boot up. If I remove it and reinsert it, the devise monitor states 'no devices plugged in'. This is a problem that I have also had (and reported in these forums) with 11.0, 11.1, 11.2.Now I notice that there is a section for 'removable devices' in the system configuration. But even if I click the box 'enable automatic mounting of removable media' and the sub-box 'automatically mount removable media when attached' the SD card is not remounted, there remain 'no devices plugged in'.

I bought a micro sd card for my BB 9000 and having a lot of trouble with it. windows as it just doesn't work or maybe it is that the card i bought is faulty? Probably too late to get my money back from paypal now :0(. I did this
$ lsusb
Bus 002 Device 006: ID 0e8f:0021 GreenAsia Inc.
Bus 002 Device 005: ID 17a0:0001
Bus 002 Device 004: ID 04a9:2207 Canon, Inc. CanoScan 1220U
[Code]....
while the BB was connected. And you will see byt the attached pic that the sd card is not mounting. I can't see where the card is now. The file manager did list it but can't remember where. With all the other drives(i have 2 hard drives) but now i can't see it. There is some confusion as to wether the music that the BB software i used via windows put the music on the BB device or the card. Different things say different things. The filemanager on the BB suggests the files are on the card but when i go to add more files i get an error saying the device is full. The device can only hold 1gb of files including installed apps. I probably haven't mentioned everything here as this is doing my head in. I have been battling for weeks with it and i wish i had of known earlier that the card might be faulty so i could have got my money back.

We have a four socket amd machine, running barcelona processors, with 64gb ram.The system runs for extended periods just fine when the system is running up to or below the 64gb memory limit. A typical load on the machine has short periods where the machine uses heavy amounts of swap space (30+ Gb). We have a swap partition of around 96Gb. When we push the machine into heavy swapping, the machine will fail within 24hrs. Has anyone experienced this problem and is there a solution other than buying more physical memory? Or am I wrong and maybe the physical memory is the issue? I thought maybe it was the memory itself, and after stripping the memory down, I get the same problem...failure upon heavy swapping

In short: the files in 11.2 of the memory card from my camera were lower case, and in 11.4 they are upper case. Thus, F-spot uploads all the photos again, and I get two copies of each, one low case (old), another upper case (new), without the comments or rotations that I had made. How can I make the system automount it again in lower case? I knew the proper options to do this manually in fstab, but not via udev or whatever it uses.

I have spent ages looking at similar problems but not not quite the same. I have installed 11.4/Gnome (x86) and wanted to use my GT430 card. I went here: 'http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:NVIDIA_drivers' and used the 'one click' install for current cards. All went ok until I rebooted and I got a 'gdm[1239]: WARNING: GdmDisplay: display lasted 0.846578 seconds' message. I got five of these in succession until the 'gdm[1239]: WARNING: GdmLocalDisplayFactory: maximum number of X display failures reached: check X server log for errors' appeared and it popped me down to an init 3 login.
So, I deleted the blacklisting conf file so that I could get back in to Gnome on Nouveau (which I did ok). I then noticed there was no /etc/X11 Xorg.conf file so I ran /usr/lib/nvidia-xconfig to generate one (which it did) - but it made no difference. I am at a loss know after spending 8 hours on this. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated. My machine is still at fresh install state so even if I have to reinstall 11.4 it does not matter.

I've got an Olympus 256MB xD picture card that I would like to have mounted on my SuSE. In windows, a few seconds after putting it into the slot on my Toshiba laptop, it is mounted as a drive. In my OpenSuSE 11.3 (KDE 4.4.4), nothing happens. Is there some software that I can get or some setting I have to tweak in order for it to be mounted?

I just opened an (unmanaged) VPS account and and have been encountering nothing but problems with trying to get Apache up and running (its something I've done many times before).Basically the inital error was with LDAP not having enough space, so I disabled the related extensions and Apache still would not run. Looking at the log, it contains: (28)No space left on device: Unable to create scoreboard (anonymous shared memory failure)

I have a build-in card-reader in my notebook. When I insert a sd-card the card is mounted but as soon as I start copying the files to the harddrive, the sd-card will unmount and than mount again. Every time I start copying I have the unmount followed by a new mount. I tried with different sd-cards and I have the same problem. Card reader works fine on windows. But now I don't have windows anymore on this notebook so I need to use the card-reader on opensuse.

I have opensuse 11.3 installed, and my motherboard has the intel i845 chipset,
one day windows had enough of the intel graphics chip and would not let me have anything but 640x480 pixels, well you cant do much with that so I put an ati card in and disabled the intenal graphics. windows was happy enough but suse could not boot - more specifically could not mount the root filesystem, saying it had errors (did a very quick fsck), could not find the journal, and I had a bad superblock. the "failsafe kernel" was no better. If I take the ati card out suse boots fine. however I do swap frequently between windows and linux and changing graphics cards between boots is somewhat irritating.

we found that if we use 'top' to show the memory usage of a server (SuSe Linux 10), we can get virtual memory usage as well as 'Resident memory' usage. For virtual mem or a particular process, it is around 1.1GB, which is large but for resident memory, it only consumes 300MB. Are there anyone who knows what the differences are? I would also like to know whether the difference (1.1GB - 300MB) = 800MB are actually available for use by other applications in the system.

Recently (the past two days), I have been experiencing graphical glitches. Seemingly random pixels (often in a horizontal line or rectangular group) would flash incorrect colors (like stuck pixels, except their color can change and they appear and disappear).
By removing my NVidia 8500 GT (falling back to the integrated 6150LE), I have removed the symptoms (except that now CAELinux doesn't display anything... but everything else works).
I suspect that it is the graphics card (I'm aware that the cards have known overheating issues), but I want to eliminate any other options before buying another. Could these symptoms be the result of a motherboard failure?
EDIT: I forgot to mention that it also locks up frequently with the card in (the graphics will freeze, but the caps lock light doesn't flash like it would in a kernel panic).

I'm using Ubuntu 10.10 x86_64, with 2T HDD x5 grouped as RAID5 using RAID controller (dell perc 6/i), result in a 8TB disk, and I put it to a single partition in XFS. Just now one light bulb went wrong and caused whole house power fail, sadly during that time I'm copying some data to that partition. After I clear the power issue and turn on the computer, the partition still can mount, so I continue copying, and that gives me some IO error. I assume it is some kind of problem that need a file system check, so I unmount it, and run xfs_repair.
However xfs_repair shows the partition has not been unmount so I restarted the computer. After restarting, during the loading screen the system prompt me that it cannot find the file system, and I pressed 'S' to skip (btw 'M' for manually maintenance, but I didn't try) Then there comes the problem: the partition cannot be mounted anymore. I tried using palimpsest (the disk utility) to check, the partition shows normally (i.e., there's a 8T disk with a single partition in XFS), but when I try to mount it, the first time I click 'mount' results in nothing, repeat click will get an error 'The device is busy: A job is pending on /dev/sdb1'.
Checking the process running I found this:
process 'mount', status 'uninterruptible', command line 'mount /dev/sdb1', waiting channel 'call_rwsem_down_write_failed'.
Also other operations with that partition does not work, such as xfs_repair or mount, will just halt (and the waiting channel is 'get_sb_bdev')

I have an IBM Thinkpad running Ubuntu 9.04. I just went on a trip and used the hotels wireless internet with no problems. I get back to my own wireless network and not one wireless connection comes up. My other computers get the signal just fine. I have rebooted the computer as well as tried an Ubuntu Live Cd to see if it was just my settings. Nothing is working and it can't find the networks. Does this mean that my card is dead because it was just working a few days ago...?

Recently installed some minor software, some games and Ubuntu Tweak, I am not sure if that's what caused this issue or not. I shutdown after the installations, then when I tried to start back up the small, white ubuntu logo appears just like it normally does, then it just goes to a black screen. I turned off the computer and restarted in (Recovery Mode). It goes about its thing then it says it is waiting for root file system, then after about 30 seconds it says "Gave up waiting for Root File System" how to fix this without reinstalling?

I am on Mint8. Discovered that the error message was caused by the program thinking that the true date was 10 days ahead of the date that shows on the display. And the incorrect date goes right along, changing every 24 hrs, the true date never catching up. Short term solution was to set the date 1 yr ahead which then showed on the display. Long term (?) solution fsck eventually worked. We shall see how long.

I am trying to format 4 GB sd memory using mkfs.vfat. I want to use the card both in linux and windows so I am formatting with Vfat filesystem. When I format the card from command line with "mkfs.vfat -F 32 /dev/mmcblk1" I am getting a warning message like "unable to get drive geometry, using default 255/63" but the data in the card is erased.
But when I mount the card and checks for the size using df -h its showing 1 GB instead of 4 GB. how to format the SD memory card or any other alternate way to format the card.

I am a newbie to linux and having a hard time installing drivers for my card (gtx 260). I'm following this guide: [URL]. So do you edit the grub.conf file in etc first and then do the yum install kmod-nvidia? I've gone through this a few times, and each time when I think I've followed the steps and reboot, I get nothing. A blinking white cursor once and then a bunch of texts saying failure to mount and sleeping forever another time.

I've spent some time searching for answers to this and I haven't found much at all. Please feel free to post pointers to other threads that discuss this particular problem, if you find any.The problem is that in bash I want to mount an iso file to inspect the contents with the command:Code:sudo mount myCD.iso CDMount -o loopThe command works fine, but pressing tab to complete either the iso filename or the CDMount directory does not work. The completion suggestions I get are existing mountpoints which The completion suggestions should include the files and directories in the current directory. This worked with Ubuntu 10.04 and not with 11.04.

I know this is going to sound stupid, but I have a few 2gb CompactFlash memory cards that I bought to use with my FujiS7000 digital camera. Only problem is that that camera will only read/write to 1gb memory cards. I don't suppose there's any way to format these 2gb cards so that the camera sees them as 1gb cards?
