OpenSUSE :: Firefox Calling Cervisia As File Manager?
Mar 1, 2010
I am experiencing some weirdo problem since some time. I don't use this machine often, so I cannot trace since when the problem is there. Problem: In Firefox. Description: When a download is completed, it shows up in Downloads window. When I ask "open containing folder", it will:
-first display a warning: "This is not a CVS folder. If you did not intend to use Cervisia, you can switch view modes within Konqueror." -will open Cervisia. And how do I perform this "switch view modes" within Konqueror? I looked into Yast, and there is no way of removing cervisia, as it does not show up (but cervisia-kde4 does show up in the list, but it is not installed). I have no use of Cervisia, by the way.
I am on KDE 3.5, on openSUSE 11.1 x64. Firefox 3.6. I do have an install of KDE4 on this machine, but never use it. I followed the advice in here. First I had Nautilus as a file manager in Firefox, then some unknown one, then (following these advices) a very minimalist thing. But I still have this Cervisia critter. The problem is likely related to KDE/Konqueror, since I tried in Gnome, and it gave me no problem (it opened Nautilus instead of Cervisia).
I would like to call some firefox macros from bash so that I can manipulate them in some scripts. Does anyone know how to do that?Currently I'm using the imacros firefox add-in
I am trying to use a software package written in ANSI C. It has a makefile which has to be executed first.
As soon as I execute it I get messages like: line i: command not found.
Commands for which I am getting errors :
CC = /usr/bin/gcc GCCFLAGS = -c -Wall ROOTDIR = .
My gcc compiler is located in the above directory only. In ROOTDIR also I tried giving the path in which all the required files & folders are present but still I get the command not found error in all the lines.
I need to execute a SQL via shell script and i am connecting to Oracle DB by this way $USERNAME1/$PASSWORD1@$STRING1 and i need to get username, password and string from someother file stored in the Unix Directory. $Username, $Password and $String is stored in File A in Path A and i want to call it in the test.sh in Path B.
Format of File A.txt Username=test_db Password=***** Instance=ORACLEDB
I have installed dwm as window manager and whenever I start firefox it crashes after a few seconds. When I use the gnome window manager everything works fine.Anyone has a hint for me what I can do?

I'm using Amarok 1.4 and when I select the playlist=>burn to CD, k3b doesn't apear. I get the prompt that asks if I want to make an audio or data disk. Only the Audio CD works; the data disk option doesn't work.
Sometimes the Dolphin file manager displays a "waiting bar" with a blue dot moving left and right all the time. There is a message next to it, stating that the file folder is being loaded. But I do not know that there is anything happening, nor is there any need to load anything. There is also a little red "delete" button, but klicking on it achieves nothing.
I've just come across the stolen laptop thread where Prey was discussed to help track a stolen laptop. Since I'm going to a trip with my laptop I thought I'd try Prey.
I installed it from the link Malcom posted but cannot figure out how to configure it. I ran the menu item which asked for my root password after which nothing seemed to happen. How do I add the API and key? In the Prey web control panel it says my device is unverified.
I used to plug in my camera into the USB interface and was able to open the picture storage with the KDE file manager - the file manager came up automatically.
Now since I have installed openSUSE 11.2, digikam insists to take over.
How can I configure SUSE 11.2 that it offers me the file manager option again? It would be great (but not necessary) if it offered a selection "Open with ..." when the USB cable is plugged in.
Has anyone else experienced issues with this option? Using the tweak tool from Malcolm's repo. If I set it, it works in the current session. But after logout, I can't login again. At login the desktop appears briefly then closes back to the login screen.
I am using GNOME and KDE with 11.3 and want to get thumbnails for videos in file manager like nautilus, dolphin though tried using mplayerthumbsconfig and changed engine to mplayer from phonon but no gain. For more information in only nautilus I get 3 thumbnails of three flv videos but rest flv and others doesn't show up.
I am in the process of enabling Samba client and server on my opensuse 11.3 32-bit workstation, and have just looked at the firewall rules (via iptables -L) prior to enabling these applications.I have used iptables a lot before and despite having my network interface defined as being in the External Zone (ie the least trusted, and therefore supposedly the most protected), the first rules in iptables are as follows:
I am newbie in openSUSE as still in transition from windows OS. How to display file properties (details other than size, date, permissions, owner, group, type) using file manager applications similar to Dolphin, Konquerer, etc. I have heaps of files ported from windows environment where I used to store descriptive subjects in one of the file properties field. In windows environment, I would have used file manager such as explorer to display the selected file properties field when searching for particular file before opening it. I know openoffice supports the file properties feature but unfortunately it would appear Linux OS currently does not have a file manager application ready to display these information.
I was installing some stuff and now after the install. The look of my kde is now totally changed and konquerer won't load and vlc also changed but its working. File manager (dolphin) keeps crashing if I try to open the video folder. how to revert back to the old KDE or at least make things right.

When using firefox to open a file attachment in web mail the update configuration runs but next time the same box appears to select which program to use , in firefox preferences / applications there is no way to add a new file association for a new filetype eg .doc or .xls ....! I tried switching off suse integration with firefox but it made no difference .if anyone has a fix for for this i can save myself a lot of time .

I have downloaded the firefox 3.7a which was a tar.bz2 file. After downloading extracted the tar.bz2 into a download folder. Now I can figure out to do from there. How can update using this firefox update. All the zypper/yast ect. only use my repositories that dont have 3.7a and I can not figure out what else to do. Google searches all just say use package manager. But how do you use a package manager for a file on your hard drive?
Non-root user cannot launch "shortcuts" (sorry I grew up on windows, don't know the right term) from the file manager or plasma desktop manager. They have full permissions to the shortcuts, even ones they create do not work.If I log in with root permissions they work fine
I am running Ubuntu 10.04, and what I have recently come to notice is tht when I open Firefox (3.6) there is no window manager around it that would allow me to resize, close, or minimize the program.

The update manager always tells me to update my firefox (all plugins included - never works as it should be). I decided to install it directly form moz. This works - I think it's my hardware. How can i get rid of the "update manager" to include firefox.
I've found that lightweight download manager called Tucan, it seems looks good but I can't decide that yet because I can't integrate it with my browser Firefox 4 is there any way to do it? I've tried to add it manually to flashgot add-on of FF but I couldn't find the executable file of tucan
I need a Download Manager which filters files for instance When I download a oga, mp3 file it downloads it to Music folder or if I download a zip, tar.gz file it downloads it to Archives folder etc.
Does anyone know of any download manager that allows you to time your downloads to start off at certain times / hours et cetera? I currently use DownThemAll! as an extension in my Firefox, but I don't think that has such a capability. I would prefer a browser extension, but if there's an application that would do I'd be thankful if you could name it.
I need this so that I time my downloads at certain hours and have them run automatically, due to the fact that my ISP allows some uncharged hours at night which I basically never made use of (but now I have to, as my free data download limit is close to being used up).
Friend of mine without broadband asked me to download the latest stable release of Mandriva. I started the download with KTorrent and after about 45 minutes came back to check progress and found that the ETA had gone up to around 10 hours for a 4.3 odd GB .iso. Wow thats a long time., I checked network utilization using the graph is System Monitor and we were running around 80 KB/sec. Paused KTorrent and opened Firefox, telling it to download the .iso from the ,edu site. I was very surprised when network utilization went to around 1000 kb/sec and the time to finish was much less (according to the Firefox download manager I have 13% of the file on hand and time to go is 1 hr 11 minutes). I had always been under the impression that any torrent client would be a lot faster than a straight download.......
The ISP here is Comcast. We pay for 6 mb down and around 2 up and routinely get it. The machine is a core quad with 2 GB of RAM. OS is OpenSuse 11.2-64 bit.
So what gives here. Is the torrent site that much slower than a straight download?? Or or could it be something the ISP is doing with torrent activity? I dont know enough about network protocol to know but I found the time difference and the amount of network utilization very surprising.
