The update manager always tells me to update my firefox (all plugins included - never works as it should be). I decided to install it directly form moz. This works - I think it's my hardware. How can i get rid of the "update manager" to include firefox.

I ran the update manager a few weeks ago and for whatever reason, it downgraded me from Firefox 3.6 to Namoroka (Firefox 3.6 beta release from what I understand). Having had Namoroka before, and knowing how unstable it was, I immediately removed it and reinstalled Firefox 3.5 from Linuxappfinder.com. Upon this last update, Ubuntu again downgraded me from Firefox 3.5 to Namoroka. I am worried about updating my other computer because of this problem.
View 9 Replies View RelatedOn my Fedora 11 x86_64 computer I have installed OOo 3.1.1 from www.openoffice.org because I need features that Fedora disabled in the repository version.And the latter also shows up in Software Update. Now, I went around and around with this and I know that installing the 1.3.1.1 package will break my OOo. I don't want Software Update even to list the 1.3.1.1 package because sooner or later I will slip up and install it on accident.
Side note: Why does Software Update think 1.3.1.1 is newer than 1.5.1? If it really is newer, someone at OOo needs to learn arithmetic.I think I can add an exclude line to /etc/yum.conf. But I can't figure out the syntax, and I don't know which package to exclude - the one I don't want updated or the alleged update package? Both? Or just the first part "openoffice.org-ure"?

Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit I have not been able to update using the update manager or by using the package manager. It seems when the update manager tries to download all the requests fail.Anyone else had this problem??

When I click on 'Install Updates' it appears to go through the process, and then presents me with the same 'waiting to install' window again - and again, and again - in fact as many times as I care to click the 'Install Updates' button. No error messages appear. The 'Settings' button produces the same apparent process as the 'Install Updates' button, but doesn't present me with any other screen.
I've tried all the solutions I could find on these forums and nothing works. The sudo suggestions for Terminal usually produce error codes. adjusting a line in the 'hosts' file. When I tried this I was presented with the obstacle of not having access to the read-only file, and no matter how much I searched I couldn't find how to gain access . While investigating all these possible solutions, I was directed in turn to the Software Sources and Synaptic Package Manager applications, but when I attempted to start them, 'Starting Administrative Application' appeared briefly on the taskbar - and then disappeared!

After a fresh install of Ubuntu 9.10-64bit I don't have Hardware Manager, Update Manager or Software Resources just to name a few.I tried sudo apt-get update & sudo apt-get upgrade & everything is up to date.

Update manager says: An unresolvable problem occurred while initializing the package information. report this bug against the 'update-manager' package and include the following error message: 'E:Encountered a section with no Package: header, Eroblem with MergeList /var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_natty_universe_ i18n_Translation-en%5fUS, E:The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.' apt-get has errors with headers, finding files, and wrong file types. I have gone to a couple locations and the files exist and the hash is correct, and the file types are correct. I have tried replacing the sources file. I have tried sudo rm -r /var/lib/apt/lists sudo apt-get clean sudo apt-get update with the same problem happening upon updating. In the same exact areas.

I have looked elsewhere for an answer and some others have had similar problems, but I have not found a reason for it happening, nor an answer. I wonder if anyone can help me please. As the title says i updated my system which then needed a reboot. I also installed Mixxx djing software to try it out. So i thought id just restart the system. Usually when i boot into my desktop wireless automatically can connect to my router but not this time, wired only for now... i know theres tons of wireless issue threads but some more experienced users will be able to get straight to the point and run through some diagnostics with me.

However my current kernel has been updated a while ago and is now 2.6.31-17. That obviously is more recent that that backport version. What should i do? By the way that update is from a PPA repository other that the default. I am wondering the update manager has no way to tell which kernel version i have at all? Should i actually go ahead with the installation?

After downloading almost 95% of the update, it gave an error message of "could not download certain components. downloaded files will not be erased" and stopped the update. I restarted the PC, and started the update manager again. But now it does not show any option of update to 10.4. how do I continue or resume the update process? It has always installed the updates with no problems, until these 3 updates remain in pending installation status.
