General :: Ubuntu - SSH Bookmark Manager For Linux?
Nov 23, 2010I have used JellyfiSSH on Mac OSX which basically stores your ssh connection details so you can quickly open connections using the built in SSH client to various servers without having to type in all the details, is there are similar thing available for linux? I am using Ubuntu.

Aug 25, 2010I am looking for a standalone bookmark management application as I need to use different browsers on occasion and don't want to store my bookmarks on one of the web based services.
Ideally this would be a server client type arrangement that would store my bookmarks on my server which I could connect to through a client, or an ncurses based application, that I can store, tag and sort my bookmarks on.
I am aware of Sitebar which offers their server software, however their plug-in is firefox, IE, and maxthon only at present. In an added complication there seems to be a conflict with one of my other firefox add-ons.

Nov 26, 2010I used to use xmarks but that is about to end so i tried firefox sync but that requires firefox to have 'remember history' to work and i dont like this-i use 'private browsing'. So what other managers are there to use for bookmarks? Ive recently taken up usage of lastpass for passwords-anyone know if lastpass will do bookmarks soon as well?

Apr 10, 2010I've had a minor, yet potentially embarrassing bug in Firefox 3.0.x for many months in Ubuntu 9.04, and just recently also experienced it with a fresh install of 9.10 with Firefox 3.5.x. Basically what happens is that occasionally a favicon will incorrectly be associated with a bookmark until I visit the bookmarked web site again. And these will be favicons from websites that I do not have bookmarked. Normally I wouldn't care. But if I was surfing porn, sometimes the porn site favicon would show up on one of bookmarks. Which could cause a bit of embarrassment. LOL
It turns out through a bit of sheer luck, I discovered that the problem seemed to be a bug in the "Tab Mix Plus" Firefox add-on. Since I only wanted that add-on for it's last tab selected feature, I un-installed it and installed a much more light weight and simple add-on called "LastTab" to recreate that functionality. And I have yet to have this problem since then. I suppose it's possible that it could be an interaction problem between add-ons. So just for completeness of information, here's a list of all my add-ons prior to un-installing Tab Mix Plus and installing LastTab.

Ubuntu :: Bookmark Manager - Merging Files Into Single Collection
Jun 2, 2011During the past eight years I've used a number of computers with different operating systems and browsers. On each one I made a habit of using the bookmark utility of each browser and saving the bookmarks file. I never ensured the continuity of the bookmark file - with each new computer I started a new bookmark file. Even when I was reinstalling the operating system I didn't import the old bookmark file in the newly installed browser: I've always started a new bookmark file. As a result I have tens of bookmark files for Firefox (json format - some kind of xml?) and IE (html file format?) each one containing hundreds or thousands of saved links. I have also some files containing links in text format (created usually when I was using someone else computer).
I would like to be able to manage this bookmarks files by using some sort of "bookmark manager" software. The "bookmark manager" should be able to merge the bookmark files into a single collection/file. It should be able to identify and remove the duplicate entries (I have timely versions of the same bookmark file) and also it should be able to group the entries/links on categories (for example the bookmarked articles on codeproject.com should be grouped under the codeproject category). Not to mention that it should provide a search facility to quickly locate the interesting bookmarks. I couldn't find such software in ubuntu software center. Do you know something that even comes close to what I need?
Ubuntu :: Firefox Get Listed But Does Not Open After Adding Bookmark
Aug 10, 2010I am puzzled by this really weird issue that involves Mozilla Firefox 3.6.8. When I add a bookmark (doesn't matter where I add it, could be to the field or to the menu) followed by exiting Firefox and then starting again, nothing happens. The process firefox gets listed with 'ps aux | grep fire' but the program itself doesn't appear, as if it hung before it could get to the display. However, when I remove ~/.mozilla (or rename it) Firefox starts up again nicely. I can only assume that the problem has to do with bookmarks (which is really odd..).

First off, I have been having disk error problems with Ubuntu, and I think that a file that involves the bookmarks was corrupted. I did remove and reinstall the latest firefox package with Synaptic and apt-get (they do the same thing right?) But I still have this problem: I can not add or modify my bookmarks in the toolbar. I can go to the window to organize my bookmarks but its like nothing is there on the left main view box or the right that shows the bookmarks. If I try to import or restore, it does nothing.

May 13, 2011I was messing around with some stuff I probably shouldn't have when trying to get my Intel graphics card working better (that's another problem completely). Now the update manager has ceased to work. Every time I try to use it this error pops up:

Ubuntu :: Natty Update Manager GUI: Not Showing Progress
May 18, 2011When I run the update manager in XUbuntu (natty/11:04) it does not show its progress while installing the upgrades.
After clicking on "install updates" and authenticating, there used to be a popup window with a progress bar and an option to show "details" but these appear to have disappeared in the last few days.
I don't recall switching these features off and there are no settings to restore them, available within the GUI. Is there another way of restoring this functionality?
If not, is a reinstall the way to go? If so what package(s) need re-installing? And in-case it is a configuration script, what files in my home directory need deleting to ensure a clean reinstall.

Jun 18, 2011I am having problems with the Adobe PDF plugin to load and display PDFs within the browser.
This is a plain Natty-installation with Firefox 4. Adobe Reader 9 is installed with the deb package from the adobe - homepage.
The PDF seems to load when the file is actually stored on a webserver. But when the PDF is kind of dynamically generated, the file is not opened by the plugin but a file-save/open dialog appears.
Can reproduce this behaviour? To test, for example, to

If you click the PDF button unter "cached", the PDF is not loaded within the browser on my system.
If you however click, for example the second link under "Downloads" everything works as should.
Things I tried that failed:
- completely removing Adobe Reader 9 and the plugin and try to use Reader 8 + plugin instead
- using Mozplugger/evince instead of the Adobe Reader 9 plugin
In all cases, the PDF under "cached" is not loaded within the browser.
As comparision, for example in Windows 7 using Adobe Reader X, everything works as should.
I am not sure which one is the culprit here, my suspicion is Firefox 4...
Do you know of existing bugreports either in launchpad, firefox bugzilla etc?

May 8, 2011Does anyone else have problems when loading an animated gif in firefox? After upgrading to natty, firefox eats 100% of cpu each time an animated gif is displayed on the tab title, or when the favicon is an animation. I have an fglrx driver, but opengl animation doesnt slowdown pc as much as favicons does on firefox.

Apr 6, 2011I think from upgrading to Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal. Whenever programs ask me to send reports (bug reports) they fail to redirect me to the proper launch pad bug report page. It just loads up my home page and acts like it's finished. Even if I have Firefox previously open, nothing happens.
Liferea was doing the same thing until I changed it from using the Gnome Default to Firefox. Perhaps this is a gnome default failure or something?

I think some of the browser fonts changed as well, but I know I can change them in the options menu.

Jun 21, 2011I can open Update Manager fine and it runs though it's little gambit of "Building data structures" etc...
Up at the top it says "The package information was last updated 13 hours ago."
Before I updated to Natty I used to be able to just click on the "Check" button and it would prompt me for my password and then check for updates.
Now if I click the "Check" button it goes grey for a bit, never asks me for my password and then just comes back up with the same "The package information was last updated 13 hours ago." message.
However, if I actually load up the terminal and type out "sudo apt-get update" then go back and load the Update Manager again it will say "The package information was last updated less than one hour ago." which is what should be happening when I click the "Check" button.
I've tried deleting my lists but this didn't resolve the issue. Any clue what else could be happening here?
I also noticed that I had some updates available when I loaded Synaptic Package Manager that didn't show up when i loaded the Update Manager.
I've also tried re-installing update-manager. I've gone as far as to do a complete removal and installed it again. Still not working right.
I think it has something to do with the fact that it's not prompting me for my password like it used to...
