I have Compiz and two panels - one at the bottom and on the side. Before running Compiz, both of them become visible on mouse hover. After Compiz starts, the one on the side would not show. I have no idea what is causing it. Could it be the cube?

I'm using NFS and I have the following problem. After ~100 days, the client and server lose connection, but the client doesn't know about this, it gives no error. The problem is that the changes on the server side aren't visible on the client side.
The nfs options are: "noatime, nolock, hard, udp, notcp, nosuid, nodev, rsize=8192, wsize=8192, actimeo=60"
The kernel version is: 2.6.16.27 built with 250 Hz. Is this an already corrected issue in a kernel version? Or are my options wrong?
I have a 4-way logitech side scrolling mouse and had it set up that (button7) which was left would rotate my desktop cube left, and the same with (button6) which was right. Now with my new motherboard I need to plug in USB, and left and right side scroll is captured as the same as left and right on the directional pad. How can I re-assign my mouse as button 6 & 7?
Does anyone know why scroll left and right are set as keyboard left and right? Does anyone know how to fix it, or reassign the buttons?
Ubuntu 10.04 I removed the Me Menu from the panel and then put it back (right click -> Add to Panel -> Indicator Applet Session). The Me Menu came back, but my name is not on the panel. When the Me Menu came back it was just a small blank on the panel next to the Power Button. There was no name, no icon, no nothing to tell me that was the Me Menu. In fact, I only accidentally found it when I happened to click in that blank space. I checked to see if there was any sort of Preferences setting for the Me Menu so I could get it to display my name for me to click on (like it did before), but could not see a setting like that. How can I make the Me Menu to be more visible than just a blank spot on the panel?

Fresh install of 10.04, recommended proprietary nVidia driver installed because text rendering in Firefox is terribly with the 'standard' non-proprietary driver.Also new to Vodafone / Huawei modems. Optimistically, I recently bought a Vodafone K3765 modem as backup for my standard internet connection. I eventually got that to work after installing the USB mode switcher. So no it works out-of-the-box experience here Problem:The network manager (I assume that is what it is called; little antenna with signal strength indicator is not visible in the panel (right top). It is there but it's only one pixel or so wide (at occasion a one pixel wide vertical line occurs at the position where it is supposed to be). So when I want to connect I have to click a number of times in the panel till I hit it and the menu shows. Once it is visible, it will stay visible till the user logs off.
I installed Ubuntu 11.04 on my laptop and was looking to do the same onto my desktop.However, when I installed the 11.04 download and put it onto a disk and booted my Desktop from the disk, I went into try and the side panel that is on my laptop isn't on this one. It has the Applications, Places and System menus on the top as it was in 10.10.Is this just in the try version side of things, or how can i change it to the new side panel.....thing?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI have had a bit of experience with previous distros but I am pretty much a newbie. So I setup 10.04 but I can't get my net to connect. It's working fine on Win7 (posting from it). It's a dsl connection. I use an ethernet wire to connect to the net.
I opened terminal and used the 'sudo pppoeconf' command and followed the instructions. This is how I used to get my net working on previous distros but it dosen't seem to work in 10.04. The terminal says that my connection is active but it isn't. The network manager icon isn't visible on the top panel.
I have a rather odd problem. Ubuntu 11.04 came installed with the nvidia 173 drivers, which I replaced with the current ones. Neither loaded Unity, so I downloaded Nvidia's 270.41.06 drivers from their website. Still no unity.
If I run compiz --replace, however, compiz works fine, and Unity loads, albeit extremely buggy, most likely because all of the gnome components are still running (e.g., if I click anywhere on the top panel, it goes away).
Although it would resemble the Unity desktop that some of us here may have run away from, is it possible to set the left-hand-side dock to remain on screen, possibly only sliding off when a program window needs it to?

I am using 10.4, and an NVIDIA 5500 video card, two screens....
I have a problem with the Panel, top and bottom. It only shows on the main screen. When I set-up it showed on both, right across, was beautiful. I was quite happy to live with the shrunk down version until I noticed two things:
1. If an app or document is in the second screen (in this case the left) then it does not show up on the panel, until I drag it to the primary (right) screen.
2. Documents open in the secondary screen in full screen mode have a "white out" banner (which I assume is the hidden Panel) across the top and bottom ribbons. This is a BIG problem, because it means there is no access to the Max, Min, Close and drag facilities, and as it is not visible in the Panel that is showing, read 1 above, then it just sits there.

I installed 11.04 64 bit on my Acer Extensa 4420 the other day. It was running 10.04 32bit before. When it booted up the first time it said that it had some video issue and would boot in classic mode. I rebooted and selected the regular Ubuntu and it came up with the side panel buttons. This morning it boots into classic mode and I can't seem to get it back to the regular mode with the side panel buttons! What could be wrong with video settings? When I first ran 11.04 live it came up with the side panel and didn't ask to install any video drivers.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWhen I upgraded to 11.04, Ubuntu classic works fine. However, when I log into the Unity Ubuntu, all that shows up is the background, and Desktop Items. No task bar at the top (containing the time, shutdown etc) or side panel bar, with the shortcut items. Now, while I was using 10.10, I installed 11.04 as a clean install on a different partition of my laptop. Therefore I have the system requirements. However, the upgraded 11.04 causes Unity issues.

In 11.4 "compiz --replace" displays no error messages, but starts up with no window decorations.
In ccsm window decorations, kde comparability, OpenGL and composting are all checked. Even tried as a different user after rm'ing the compiz-1 folder.
Composting using Kwin works fine.
I have 2 drives formatted NTFS, which I'm mounting with /etc/fstab to ~/Movies/ and ~/Music/ and an EXT4 partition on my primary drive for games, mounted to ~/Roms/ and I would like for these drives to NOT show up in the side panel of nautilus.
I've been doing some looking around, and what I've found so far is that supposedly if you mount a partition/drive somewhere besides /media/ nautilus will ignore it. I'm finding this not to be the case, and it's driving me bonkers. here's my fstab:

How do I resize the icons and or favorites panel, on the left side of F15.
Also I noticed that fedora 15 is casing my laptop to run hotter than windows 7.
In both Slackware 12.2 (gtk 2.12.12) and Slackware 13.1 (gtk 2.18.9), the left-hand side panel of the GTK file chooser (File Open and Save) dialog box displays three sections. The first section contains two options: Search and Recently Used. The second section contains several options. The third section are personal bookmarks I have created and stored in $HOME/.gtk-bookmarks.
Modifying the bookmarks section is straightforward, but I am searching for ways to modify the first and second sections.
1. In both 12.2 and 13.1, the second section shows the following: $HOME directory, Desktop, File System. In 13.1, several mount points now appear. I think the criterion being used is the mount point being outside the main root tree. Several of these mount points are configured in fstab with the noauto option and are user mounted only as necessary. I do not want any of these volumes appearing in that section nor the Desktop option. Is there a way to exclude those volumes and options?
2. In that same second section are two mounted volumes from a second internal drive. Those two partitions are part of my bookmarks. In 12.2 those two partitions appeared in the bookmarks section. In 13.1 those two bookmarks are ignored and instead appear in the second section. I prefer those two points appear in my bookmarks section because I prefer my own labels rather than mount point names. Is there a way to do that?
3. Is there an option in $HOME/.config/gtk-2.0/filechooser.ini to control the width of the side panel?
My gnome-panel is at the left side of my screen (I use the 'splendid' cairo-dock at the bottom of my screen). But when more than eight windows are open, the dock freezes. The 'Computer' button works, as well as the tray icons. My CPU rushes to 26% constantly. Solution is to kill gnome-panel and it reappears without complaining (if few than 8 windows open).

Details are in this post. More specifically, I'm running libreoffice-3.2.99.3-i486 from Eric. When I run 'oowriter' (Libreoffice Writer) from the command line, and then try to dock the navigator panel, I get this message after the crash:

I want to find a way to control compiz from my panel, basically have some custom launchers that would say rotate cube or bring up expo, i have been unable to find commands to do this, does anyone know if this is possible. even if it were a link to a bash script.

I have a minimise/maximise animation that minimises the window to the dock, but I want it to go to the panel like it did before the dock . the dock has become my default task switcher, not just this one but all my compiz animations occur at the dock now (but this and the show window animations are the most annoying)

View 1 Replies View RelatedI can't stand looking at the ugly, off-center, non-themed maximize/minimize/close buttons in the maximized global menu. Is it possible to set a window to maximize *below* the top panel? Or at least to have its set fixed size be its fixed size when not maximized?
Using Compiz window rules I've been able to set a fixed size in some applications (Opera, for example), but whenever I open them, the window automatically opens as maximized. When I un-maximize, it reverts to whatever size it wants, and having to resize my windows all the time is a pain.
When I activate Compiz through the Desktop Effects settings, the top one or two pixels of the top Gnome panel don't respond to mouse clicks. Is this a bug, or do I have to adjust some CompizConfig setting?

One is running Linux Mint 8 and the other is running Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10. The first time on either computer when I enable WebUI in the Deluge GUI it works fine. However if I ever disable it in plugins section I am subsequently unable to re-enable it (doesn't appear in the side panel again). Rebooting or reinstalling Deluge seems to have no effect.Is this a bug or am I doing something wrong?

I could do that simply by opening them in two seperate windows, but that would also seperate all the controls (play/pause/forward/...). I want to play them in a synchronized fashion so that pause/forwarding/... works on both videos simultaneously so that they always stay at the same timecode and they don't go out of sync. How would I accomplish that in Linux?
This is needed for viewing only, so compositing them into a new video file first should be avoided if possible, but if there isn't an easy way to do that, I welcome answers doing it with composition as well.
