I recently installed OpenSUSE 11.2 on computer. This is a clean installation with no customization or manual config, also I didn't install compiz. When I press ALT+F2 run dialog appears, but I can't type into it.how I can fix this problem??
Running Fedora 13 with KDE4 the 'run command' dialog box (ALT-F2) crashes pretty often. Sometimes it just hangs for several seconds. I'm running a pretty standard from DVD setup here with only the NetworkManager and knetworkmanager updated from the Updates repository. It's company policy that we try to stick to the DVD as much as possible without any updates, it helps us to keep our laptops in a well-defined state and avoid conversations like "why is package abc on laptop a version 1.512.5501a5 but 1.512.5502b1 on laptop b?".The question is simple:Does anyone know what KDE package that run command dialog box is part of? I'd like to update only that one particular package to get this problem solved, updating the entire system is not an option.
Ubuntu have two logout dialogs. One is well known LogOut dialog with Switch User option and second is standalone LogOut dialog from Indicator Applet Session.Did somebody know the command for Indicator Applet Session LogOut dialog?
Adobe Air are not able to invoke the password dialog for installing apps in opensuse11.3 (i686) .. it waits for root password confirmation however there is no dialog window to input the password to. I've tried installing adobe air apps as both su and normal user, no mather what I do it's not envoking the password dialog..
I've also tried to install the gnome su library to see if it helps any but it don't...
I have also tried to reinstall Adobe Air using both the rpm installer and the binary installer from [URL], the binary installer won't even install.
I can get the use of the AIR apps I need ?
From AIR installation log [Adobe AIR Application Installer:12808][INFO] Waiting for user confirmation
Edit: By the way, I've also tried the normal troubleshooting such as removing the crypt cataloge, removing cache and etc..
Whenever, I successfully save a new document, the document's icon does not display in the KDE File Dialog until OpenOffice restarts. The document exists, because trying to do a "Save As" on it produces a dialog that states if one wants to overwrite the document. Also, trying to export a PDF twice has the same outcome.

I accidentally type mv command wrong.actually it supposed to be mv SNAP-20101215* dec10/week3_dec10/but i type the below insteadmv SNAP-20101215* dec10/week3_dec2010/Note: there is a folder name "dec10/week3_dec10/"but there is no folder name "dec10/week3_dec2010/"as a result of it, instead of having those files under dec10/week3_dec10 but it merge those files into one file name "week3_dec2010" , is there any way to change it back to orginal files?
I have installed SUSE 11.2 and have performed update software manually, using YaST > Online Update. This all appears to be successful. I am getting an error dialog that says Problem connecting to a software source There was a (possibly temporary) problem connecting to a software source. Pleas check the detailed error for further updates. the details are as follows:
I'm using OpenSUSE 11.4 and the GNOME 3 packages in the GNOME:STABLE repository. I maintain an application and have a remote Mercurial repo hosted at BitBucket, which requires SSH to do any push/pull operation.
My passphrase is just that -- a phrase, not a word -- and it's too long to type accurately without seeing it. I cut and paste it from a web page. When I'm asked by a console app for the passphrase, I can do that. The GNOME SSH passphrase dialog does not allow pasting or dropping, so I can either try to type it or hit cancel. Normally, ssh-add provided a way around this; it would ask you for the phrase on the console, and I could paste it.
This doesn't work in GNOME 3. ssh-add still asks me for the passphrase, but when I try any operation that requires the key, the dialog pops up again. How is it possible to get ssh-add to work, or (preferably) get rid of the dialog?
i use linux ubuntu..i try to copy db and type some mysqldump command..but at terminal show: The program 'mysqldump' can be found in the following packages:
* mysql-client-5.0 * mysql-client-5.1
Try: sudo apt-get install <selected package> bash: mysqldump: command not found
how to get mysqldump for my pc? i've tried to follow the instruction, but show like below:
Err http://ubuntu-ashisuto.ubuntulinux.jp jaunty/main libnet-daemon-perl 0.43-1 Could not connect to ubuntu-ashisuto.ubuntulinux.jp:80 (122.216.218.146), connection timed out
when i try to mount the ISO (it's a Live CD) onto my emulated DVD Drive it doesn't seem to work. The only thing that happens is that the auto play dialog box comes up saying view files and folders and i tried everything and nothing seems to work. I am currently on Windows 7 Home Premium and have an External Hard Drive
I am writing an installation script that installs several packages using apt-get. Is there a way to run that command with some sort of option that makes it so the user doesn't have to type Y to confirm the installation? The user needs to be run the script as sudo
I dont have under system->admin networking, but i do have netwroking tools (I have the latest version of ubuntu) and I am wondering - what command can i type in to the terminal to see the dns information? also can I install "network" for ubuntu?
I need to extract the absolute directory from the type command when I pass it a program name. E.g.
Code:
>type cat cat is hashed (/bin/cat)
There is one other case (I believe):
Code:
>type lpr lpr is /usr/bin/lpr
I thought of using regex, but it returns the whole line, not just the match. In addition, there is no option cited in the man page for type that returns just the command directory.
Note: this is part of my solution to a programming assignment in bash shell scripting.
To hide the user input to be displayed on screen, use the terminal line setting command stty -echo, whatever the user enters after this command will not be displayed in the screen. to make the input characters get displayed on the screen use stty echo.
I can't boot Ubuntu 9.10 on this computer (on my other computer it works fine). When I try to run it from the CD or USB I see a screen full of colored lines, and when I try to use safe graphics I get to the shell but the whole screen is blinking and I can't type any command. Anyone knows how to solve it? My graphics card is GeForce 7300 LE and on my other computer (the one that can run Ubuntu find) has an on-board graphics card.
I was running an update on my computer (running Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid) and something must have been transferred incorrectly as every time I open synaptic, I get an error message that tells me to type a command into the terminal:
Code: sudo dpkg --configure -a After doing that, it displays this:
I came across this reult of the type command (hashed) in another post. (see below).
Code:
fraespappp8:/data/apps > type topic_file_publish.sh topic_file_publish.sh is hashed (/data/apps/pnbgstk/publication/topic_file_publish.sh) This (result = hashed) is new to me.
This started happening about 2-3 weeks ago when i noticed our backups weren't running anymore. whenever i try to run ANY type of scp command I get the following error: warning: Unrecognized configuration parameter permitlocalcommand ssh: FATAL: Illegal -o parameter "PermitLocalCommand no" lost connection
I checked the /etc/ssh/ssh_config file and there was a command PermitLocalCommand commented out, but for testing I even totally removed that line and then in scp forced the use of that file via scp -F /etc/ssh/ssh_config ......
and I still get the same error. This command is nowhere is any of my ssh config files so im at a loss here on how im supposed to fix this!! I even checked my home directory for maybe a ssh config file that might be overridding the system config but nothing.
Upgraded my 11.2 system to 11.3 today. Can't login anymore using gdm or xdm login window. The password prompt is displayed but no chars are echoed in the password field. when you click Login, it displays "Authentication failure" in the window. The logged messages in the /var/log/messages for the gdm-greeter are:
gdm-simple-greeter: GLib-GObject-WARNING: gsignal.c:2273: signal 'dialog-hidden' is invalid for instance '0x81299b8' gdm-simple-greeter: Gtk-WARNING: gtkwidget.c:5628: widget not within a GtkWindow gdm-session-worker: gkr-pam: couldn't get the password from user: Conversation error gdm-session-worker: pam_unix2(gdm:auth): conversation failed
Note that I can login at init level 3 as root of the user I"m attempting to login with in the gdm window.
Since upgrading ubuntu boots to a prompt rather than logging into gnome. has anyone run into this? what can I do to fix this? I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 9.10 to Ubuntu 10.4. does anyone know the command to start gnome from the prompt?
I noticed in phpmyadmin that we can export a database in type update. Indeed we have update... in place of insert.... is there anyone know if it possible by a command line or by a simple PHP code ?
Status as at 15 April 2010: this fix is no longer required. The repaired RPMs are now distributed through Yast Online Updates, so you can use the normal online update processes to fix the bug In late March 2010 some update packages for Samba were released through the Online Update repositories. They result in calls to Samba in Network Browsers failing to return icons displaying the machines on the local LAN. The problem occurs in bot Gnome and KDE desktop environments. Instead a window requiring a username and password appears, like this screenshot:
I've written this based on my 64 bit laptop; 32 bit users can make a few mental adjustments. You can tell if you have updated to the faulty Samba RPMs by checking your files with this command:
Code: rpm -qa | grep samba The RPMs you will see if you haven't installed the updates will be like these: Code: samba-client-3.4.2-1.1.3.1.x86_64 samba-3.4.2-1.1.3.1.x86_64 samba-client-32bit-3.4.2-1.1.3.1.x86_64
