Jul 16, 2010

Adobe Air are not able to invoke the password dialog for installing apps in opensuse11.3 (i686) .. it waits for root password confirmation however there is no dialog window to input the password to. I've tried installing adobe air apps as both su and normal user, no mather what I do it's not envoking the password dialog..

I've also tried to install the gnome su library to see if it helps any but it don't...

I have also tried to reinstall Adobe Air using both the rpm installer and the binary installer from [URL], the binary installer won't even install.

I can get the use of the AIR apps I need ?

Even if I cancel, and do not actually print. For example: Open a PDF, File=>Print, Cancel, File=>Print. Then the Reader window is gone, with no message anywhere I can find.

Ubuntu :: Authentication Dialog Hang After Password Input?

Oct 13, 2010

I have a Ubuntu 10.10 installed on my HP Mini 210, and is having a problemth authentication dialogs when applications requests for elevated permissions. As far as I concern, there are two types of them, one is the kind when you run anything with gksu where the background dims and a dialog pops up. Another type is when you try toinstall software through Synaptic and a dialog box requests for your password. I am having problems with the later one.

Whenever the authentication dialog box pops up, after typing my password and presses enter, or the Authenticate button, the password field disappears while leaving the authentication dialog on the screen. The Authenticate and Cancel buttons are still clickable, but they are not bringing any actions by clicking them. I would have to let the application to continue with elevated permissions by manually closing the dialog. There are very very rareoccasions where the dialog disappears after I click on authenticate, which I can say is 1 in every 100 times

OpenSUSE Network :: GNOME 3 SSH Passphrase Dialog Does Not Allow Pasting Or Dropping

Jul 19, 2011

I'm using OpenSUSE 11.4 and the GNOME 3 packages in the GNOME:STABLE repository. I maintain an application and have a remote Mercurial repo hosted at BitBucket, which requires SSH to do any push/pull operation.

My passphrase is just that -- a phrase, not a word -- and it's too long to type accurately without seeing it. I cut and paste it from a web page. When I'm asked by a console app for the passphrase, I can do that. The GNOME SSH passphrase dialog does not allow pasting or dropping, so I can either try to type it or hit cancel. Normally, ssh-add provided a way around this; it would ask you for the phrase on the console, and I could paste it.

This doesn't work in GNOME 3. ssh-add still asks me for the passphrase, but when I try any operation that requires the key, the dialog pops up again. How is it possible to get ssh-add to work, or (preferably) get rid of the dialog?

Programming :: Invoke Methods Via Ssh On Servers From CSV?

Jan 14, 2011

I have to execute certain commands (like shutdown Tomcat) on several servers so I'm using a loop and ssh. I put the server's IP on a CSV file which I parse, execute the commands for each line and send the output to a file. The problem is that after processing one line the program stops execution. I wonder if someone could lend me a hand with this, I'm new in bash scripting and I ran out of ideas.

The CSV (servers.csv) file looks like this:

Code:

192.168.254.5:Server 1
192.168.254.6:Server 2
...

And the script looks like this:

Code:

#!/bin/bash
while IFS=: read ip name
do
sshpass -p "pass" ssh -o "StrictHostKeyChecking no" root@"$ip" 'sh <CATALINA_BASE>/bin/shutdown.sh' >> output.log
done < servers.csv

OpenSUSE Network :: Login Uses Local Password Instead Of Nis Password?

Jul 2, 2011

I have setup a nis server and client. At first I didn't have a local user defined on the client. The client then used the user and passwords from NIS, so that was ok.

The problem then is, that when the server is down, I couldn't login to my client anymore. So I created a local user with the same name on the client but with a different password (after I shut the nis server down, if nis server was on, I couldn't create a local user with the same name). I then edited etc/nssswitch.conf as follows:

Code:
# (like no NIS server responding) then the search continues with the
# next entry.
#
# Legal entries are:
#
# compat Use compatibility setup

[Code].....

If NIS server is on: client has to login with the nis password If NIS server is down: client has to login with the local password (as fallback)

However the actual behaviour is that I can only login with the local password now. The NIS pasword doesn't seem to be used anymore.

Ubuntu :: Installed Lucid - Can't Invoke Programs After A While

Mar 22, 2011

I am running usb version of lucid 10.04.2, with many apt-get installs. Shortly after running awhile, programs will not run, I get either an "input/output error" or "Bus error (core dumped)". (Examples of programs rendered inoperable are top, df, file)

I've read something about a memory leak in Lucid, but in my case, the computer doesnt slow down, things just stop working. Is this a known problem with Lucid? I'm thinking maybe one of my apt-get installs corrupted something. Is this a known problem that has a software update available?

Here is the output of "top" which fortunately currently DOES work, while other progs don't. (the memory usage stays constantly in that 1.5 GB range)

CentOS 5 :: Display Script That Users Can SSH In And Invoke?

May 11, 2009

I'm trying to do a little bit of setup on our new server and could use a hand.I'm working on creating a simple display script that our users can SSH in and invoke, here is what I'm attempting to do.

Requirements.

1. Must run X over ssh on Mac OS X 10.5 or greater

2. Must work in the office, or on the road

Implementation:
1. Set up the system to auth against LDAP (Open Directory)

2. Create a script on the PATH that checks which displays are available, and launches Xephyr for the first available one.

3. Create a client script that performs the SSH and Xephyr command so that users can simply click the script to start an X session.

I have 1 set up, but I'm having issues with 2 and hence 3. For instance, I can start XNest with the following commands.Start my SSH session

ssh ninet@10.0.1.50 -X

Load XNest
Xnest :1 -ac -geometry 1024x768 -once -query localhost

OpenSUSE Network :: Fixing "Authorization Dialog" Bug In Samba For 11.2?

Mar 31, 2010

Status as at 15 April 2010: this fix is no longer required. The repaired RPMs are now distributed through Yast Online Updates, so you can use the normal online update processes to fix the bug In late March 2010 some update packages for Samba were released through the Online Update repositories. They result in calls to Samba in Network Browsers failing to return icons displaying the machines on the local LAN. The problem occurs in bot Gnome and KDE desktop environments. Instead a window requiring a username and password appears, like this screenshot:

I've written this based on my 64 bit laptop; 32 bit users can make a few mental adjustments. You can tell if you have updated to the faulty Samba RPMs by checking your files with this command:

Code:
rpm -qa | grep samba
The RPMs you will see if you haven't installed the updates will be like these:
Code:
samba-client-3.4.2-1.1.3.1.x86_64
samba-3.4.2-1.1.3.1.x86_64
samba-client-32bit-3.4.2-1.1.3.1.x86_64
