I have been going through all the help files I can including here. I just can't get it going. I will post any info just give me a command and I will post results. I just want to be able to play movies and music and stuff.

I'm able to open DVD data discs, it's just playing DVD movies which is the problem now.
I've followed the official ubuntu guide on this and it hasn't worked. Even with all the numerous posts regarding the matter I'm still unable to find a fix.
Thus I'm posting here. If I can't get this to work I'm fooking back off to Windows because I've wasted far too many hours as it is.
I'm running P4 2.4 Ghz, NEC 2500a DVD-RW drive. I've also got two other DVD drives, a Pioneer slot drive which I get the exact same problem and another one which I haven't tested yet as it appears to be a software problem.

i have newly installed ubuntu 9.1 but it is not able to play any movies also don't show mouse pointer, i have installed all players and neccesory files for multimedia. when i play the file media player opens and starts playing but i am able to see only a screen full of colored pixels my system: AMD Athlon , Asus Mother board dual core 3600+,VIA Technologies, Inc. When i open vlc or exaile and queue a list of tracks, after playing some hours, the sound hangs and in the music player repeats the same 1 second audio part like a hickup, in video programs like vlc also the film freezes.
i have the latest libraries of gstreamer from packman installed and i also tried updating the pulseaudio libraries from multimedia repo. but the problem is still the same

View 1 Replies View RelatedI upgraded to KDE 4.4.3 this morning, but after that Amarok (with Xine backend) does not play music any more - track is progressed, but only silence comes out of the speakers. I tried Gnome music players too, but none of them plays anything.
I installed GStreamer with different kinds of plugins and switched Phono backend to gstreamer. When I start Amarok now, it says I have no MP3 support, so it has to be installed. It does it, restarts itself and it can play audio again. After restarting, having no MP3 support is reported again.
Amarok just skips all songs one by one. It starts playing and ends song immediately and goes to next song.I ran Amarok in konsole..[URL].. I tried different audio files (mp3, wav...) but the same every time.

I have been away from Linux in general and Ubuntu since 2006, but now wish to make Linux, and probably the Ubuntu distribution, my main operating system, especially for the Internet. I have been using Open Office since version 1.0, so no training or migration is necessary there. However, I have one challenge with my Ubuntu 9.1 ... movies which play under Windows will not play in Ubuntu. Under Windows Firefox needs Adobe Flash Player 10 to play these videos ... is there some open source software that will give Ubuntu Firefox the same capability?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't play movies when I have browsers open. I am not sure if it is the browser, or what. I ran totem, and vlc in a terminal, and it says insufficient resources when I try to open a movie (see snapshot).
I also took a snapshot of my system monitor. I am not sure what resources it is talking about?
I recently got a signal conversion box so I could route my netbooks monitor-out port to my TV. The idea being that I could effectively set the TV up as a separate monitor for watching movies on whilst I worked using the netbooks own monitor. It seemed to work initially, the Monitors dialog box could easily detect and setup the TV as if it were just an external monitor however I can't seem to play any kind of video on either screen when this is set up. All I get in Totem, Mplayer, VLC and skype is just a black area within the applications window. The sound works fine so this is clearly just a video problem.
It only seems to occur when I configure the system to use the TV as a separate monitor. If I tell it to display the same thing on both monitors all video output works fine.
I was wondering if there's another way than gecko-mediaplayer to play divx movies on the web. In chromium gecko sometimes freezes,usually when only 10 minutes are left from the movie and that's just freaking annoying, and you can't fast forward or backward also. Though it has some good things too I would like to know if there's an alternative for it in chromium, something like using vlc as in firefox.

Simply put, I am unable to get amarok to play mp3 files, which represent a large portion of my music collection.Every time I start the program, a window pops up advising me that amarok cannot play mp3 files, and it asks if I wish to install that support. Every time I click yes, it announces that the system has successfully done so, except that I might have to restart the program for the change to take effectEvery time I restart the program the same sequence happens. At no time does it ever play mp3 files.
I've tried to install every mp3 codec library I can find, none of this makes any difference.There was a time when amarok handled all this with absolutely no problem and behaved like a really good music manager, but that capability evidently was blown away by some software update that I probably wouldn't have run if I'd known what would happen.Does anyone know how to solve this? I have installed ubunto on an old PC with minimal hardware resources. I cannot play or even see a music cd. I go to places-computer- and see the floppy drive, files system hard drive, and the cd drive. When I insert the music cd the cd drive disappears. It sees a data cd just fine.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am unable to play any trailer from Apple - Movie Trailers site. I went to location Apple - QuickTime - Troubleshooting to check if quicktime was installed correctly. I got the first quicktime logo which said that it's installed correctly but the animated logo (bottom right) showed the picture of a computer monitor instead of the animated quicktime logo. Which obviously means that i cannot stream video - my problem exactly.
I have a broadband connection and as an example when i go to the location Apple - iPhone - Gallery - TV Ads ; i have the website player trying to access the video but just keeps accessing it - never plays. I can play quicktime videos locally from my drive without any problems. I have struggling with this for the last 1 wk on every conceivable linux/Suse forum ; but without any success. I have mplayer , mplayerplug-in, libquicktime, libquicktime0, gnome-mplayer, gecko-media player already installed. Besides, i have totem, mplayer, mplayerplug-in, vlc-mozillaplugin installed.
How do i stream the trailers?
As a side note ; i found that totem is the one that tries to play my quicktime files; whereas totem is unable to play the .mov files locally for me. Vlc player works fine for .mov files. How do i make Vlc player stream my quicktime media may also solve my problem !
I have a rather strange problem and it surfaced just recently. Most likely it has something to do with switching from Ubuntu 10.04 to Ubuntu 10.10.
When I upload music to my iPhone 3gs with iOS 3.1.3 (7E1 it shows in iTunes, however the phone skips over the music. This does not happen to songs I uploaded via rhythmbox two weeks ago.
For a test purposes I deleted the old songs from the iPhone and tried to put them on again. Now I cannot listen to them as well. At least I know it has nothing to do with the used mp3 coding.
I even can use the iPhone as a harddrive for that music and play music from their through rhythmbox.
The song list shows the right sizes on the iPhone.
It is save to say that the data is transfered and the music database is updated. So there must be a strange error in detecting the length of the songs which would point to a problem in updating the iPhone database. However, I cannot be sure, because the phone is not reporting any errors.
How would i be able to do that if possible?

With my laptop i login with "ssh -X" to the desktop pc and start banshee to play music stored on the desktop pc. (the banshee userinterface is shown on the laptop and the sound goes to the hifi installation) This works only when there is a monitor connected to the desktop pc, when i disconnect the monitor the sound is gone. Is there a way to play music without the monitor ?
