I'm running Virtualbox from the Sun website (need the USB support) and it breaks after each kernel update.The problem is that I installed a lot of Ubuntu systems for transitioning windows users with Windows in virtualbox to ease the migration but I have to rerun vboxdrv setup after each kernel patch.

It seems that updating the Kernel breaks my installation. I've tried it twice, and both times it disabled my gui desktop. I'm posting this with links2 in my terminal. The terminal works perfectly.
This is really annoying, as I can't even use my computer. What do you think is the problem?
I am using the 13.1 build scripts from slackbuilds.org. I modified the scripts to build 3.2.12 rather than 3.2.10.
In 13.1 the main VirtualBox 3.2.12 OSE package built and installed without errors. The VirtualBox GUI starts without errors.
Running the virtualbox-kernel-mksrctarball.sh script built a kernel source package without errors.
Yet the VirtualBox kernel module won't build. I receive the following error:

I have downloaded latest version of sun vm virtual box foe Fedora 13 x64. After installing and creating a VM when I want to start vm I got this error. And when I enter this command on terminal :
/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
I get this error:

And I run virtualbox in terminal, got this:
Warning: The vboxdrv kernel module is not loaded. Either there is no module available for the current kernel (2.6.29.6) or it failed to load. Please recompile the kernel module and install it by
sudo /etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup
You will not be able to start VMs until this problem is fixed.
I run "/etc/rc.d/rc.vboxdrv start" as a root, got messages like this :

(modprobe vboxdrv failed.)
I had an issue with the module build for vbox 3.1.2 breaking on the latest kernel ( /etc/rc.d/rc.vboxdrv setup ). Apparently the issue is that a kernel header (autoconf.h ) has changed its location in the module tree and hence the issue.
2 options:
1. upgrade to 3.1.4
2. create a symlink as follows
cd /usr/src/linux/include/linux
ln -s ../generated/autoconf.h autoconf.h
I just updated my kernel to the latest version (2.6.35-24). Now my suspend function on my Thinkpad SL510 no longer works. The system simply hangs with a solid cursor in the corner of a black screen. USB devices remain powered on, HDD keeps spinning, and all indicator lights remain lit. When this happens, the only thing I can do is hold the power button down for a hard power off.My first thought would be to troubleshoot this with dmesg, but I don't know how to record dmesg after a power off. The message buffer is reset when I reboot.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI run an Aspire One 522 with a Broadcom BCM4313-Wlan-Card and Fedora 15. To run the card, I had to install der broadcom-wl-Driver, as described here: [URL]... It worked okay. (Althought not perfect. It crushed everytime the whole system, when it tried to connect to a WLAN-Net, unless I first started the Windows on the computer, then shut it down and restarted Fedora. But maybe thats some strange Dual-Boot-thing.) Anyway. After I updated the Kernel to 2.6.40 it seems to be broken. I deleted the driver, reinstalled it, tried the B43-driver. But no mater what: It seems like the NetworkManager doesn't find the card at all. lsmod shows that a modul "wl" is running. And - as mentioned - I installed the Kernel and the two other packages fresh form the repositories.

It had been working fine with other upgrades. No it's not a problem with dkms or other stuff. This kernel doesn't have vboxdrv module like other kernels...i verified it...

I am seeing quite a few entries about the usb. I am not sure if that is common or if its unrelated. I am running x86 11.3, and virtualbox 4.0.4 I have tried to uninstall, and even go back to 3.2
I just up-graded to the latest version of the stable 11.4 64bit kernel on my laptop and it appears that the repositories have not compiled the VirtualBox driver module for the current kernel ... When I make /vboxdrv setup the message is:
Recompiling VirtualBox vboxadd kernel module, NOT. It has been packaged
I think this means that the installed module will not recompile has it was packaged. My kernel version is the lattest :
2.6.37.6-0.5-1
And my VirtualBox was installed from the Virtualization repos (4.0.8.11-1) even made the Vendor change and all. The version Before the lattest (4.0.4-1.6) did not work either. With the same problem. It is very easy to install VirtualBox from the Sun site and every time there is a Kernel up-date one can always make /etc/vboxdrv setup.

I am running Lenny and using VirtualBox OSE 1.6.6. In order to try squeeze I installed it in a VM. I tried to install Guest Additions also, but i get this error:

I tried with 3 versions of the kernel 2.6.32-5-686,2.6.32-5-484,2.6.32-3-686 but I cannot get it to work using any of them. Also I tried to install version 2.6.30-2-686 but I couldn't since synaptic said that it Depends: linux-kbuild-2.6.30 but it is not installable.
My problem is that it won't load the dkms module and Virtualbox will not run.

When I type modprobe vboxnetflt, I get the error: FATAL: Error inserting vboxnetflt (/lib/modules/2.6.37.1-1.2-default/updates/vboxnetflt.ko): Invalid module format. what should I do in order to get my VB to be able to connect to the internet?
Just updated the kernel to 2.6.32.22 as requested by Update Manager, and was rebooted into low graphics mode, the nvidia kernel module failed to load.I tried installing the linux-headers-2.6.32.22 but this made no difference. This could get ugly if such an early update mucks up

Does anyone know why there is such a delay this time? Or if there is a workaround
View 3 Replies View RelatedI use Arch Linux and the kernel got upgraded, and it broke VirtualBox. It says to run "/etc/init.d/vboxdrv setup", but such a file does not exist. The Arch Wiki says "/etc/rc.d/rc.vboxdrv setup", but that doesn't exist either. What should I do?
And is it possible to write a script that runs on startup that automatically fixes VirtualBox whenever the kernel is upgraded?
Squeeze's latest update has upgraded my kernel from 2.6.32-3-686 to 2.6.32-5-686.My wireless stopped working and then I realised that I had to rebuild the wifi modules. I had followed this earlier.URL...For this new kernel, which I step of the process should I repeat? Rebuild module? Or just do a modprobe?

Never used it, but I'd like to start. Therefore, I am no longer willing to just ignore this. The error message during boot is this:

After updating to kernel-2.6.33.6-147.fc13.x86_64 (and updating all kmods) VirtualBox guests no longer boot.
I had a Windows guest (from now on refereed as Crapdows) that worked normally. After the update, I could get to the "Start Windows Normally" screen, but then Crapdows refused to boot. At first, I thought it was a crappy M$ bug, but after creating another VM (Doublecrap), and starting from scratch, I was able to get to the "Windows is loading files" screen, and then the guest hangs again.
This problem is generalized to all OS'es I've tried. In Ubuntu, I can get to the language selection screen before the installation freezes. The same applies for Fedora and SUSE guests.
Is it time to get my hammer?
I have a problem with my custom kernel when I want to create the Nvidia kernel module.After this finished I installed the image and headers and created the Nvidia kernel module. Everything worked fine.However, if I remove the linux-source from my home directory then I can't create the kernel module.Even though I have the headers for the kernel installed.

I'm not one of those people who needs to have the latest and greatest kernel to be happy, I just rely on the update manager. I swore that I saw an update for a new kernel, but my kernel version hasn't changed. I'm just curious if there was a new kernel that was released or if that was just an update to the kernel listed above.
