OpenSUSE :: Batch Resizing Applications - Nautilus Image - Phatch Didn't Work

Jun 1, 2010

I am looking for image batch processing (mainly resizing) apps. As I have problems with Nautilus Image Resize in the other thread, are there any other software that is fairly easy to use to batch resize images? Preferably from a one-click install that works. I tried Phatch, but that didn't work for me.

OpenSUSE :: Baires - Batch Image Resize From One Directory And Place It To The Same Or Another

Dec 8, 2009

Ladies and gentlemen, I announce my 1st Qt4 application - Baires. Baires is a program that helps you easily resize bunch of pictures from one directory and place it to the same or another, with just one click (after initial setup, of course). With help of @microchip8, who built spec, RPMs and placed them to his repositories, I have now made an "official" download page at my site.

OpenSUSE Multimedia :: 11.2 - Batch Of Codecs To Work With MKV Files

Jan 25, 2010

System - openSUSE 11.2 "Emerald" KDE (with gnome base)
Player - vlc
I'm hoping to find a batch of codecs for my newly installed openSUSE OS. I have a very troublesome collection of .mkv files that took several codec packs to make them work. For a brief explanation, I had tried haali and matroska both together and they still didn't work on certain mkvs. I ended up using CCCP, but that's win only as far as I can tell. It took the latest update of CCCP to work on all of my mkvs.

OpenSUSE Hardware :: Brightness Controls Didn't Work ?

Jul 21, 2011

Recently I tried putting Kubuntu Natty Narwhal on yet again and to my surprise it mostly worked. The only major thing wrong with it was my brightness controls didn't work (I have a VPCCW21FX laptop) at first this was an anoyance being blinded by my screen but I soon realized that it was killing my battery life. So having tried to seek help in getting it to work I tried out OpenSUSE. They worked! but as soon as I updated the kernal they no longer worked. No Problem. I reinstalled and told it to never apply that update. Then I installed the official nvidia drivers via repository on the opensuse wiki. they installed and worked but my brightness controls were once again broken.

OpenSUSE :: Nautilus Image/video/pdf/html Preview Failing

Apr 18, 2010

I don't how long is has been happening for (I've just upgraded my old computer, so it is now my faster and better machinig), but Nautilus is failing to create thumbnails for anything other than text files.

I've swapped the settings around to try to trigger changes, but even on "Local only" or "Always" with a 10MB cap then Nautilus won't generate previews for anything other than text files. All images/videos/pdfs/web pages that should have thumbnails generated for them have the "pending" icon but never generate a thumbnail. If, however, I open the file (with Eye of Gnome or Gimp) and refresh the folder then the thumbnail appears for the one file I just opened (so I could go through and preview all images, but I'd really rather not!)

I've tried removing/renaming my .local/share/mime folder in case it was incorrectly handling file types, but that didn't help. I've looked in gconf at the thumbnailer apps, but that appears to be for everything except images. Running "evince-thumbnailer" on its own works fine as well and generates an image. There aren't any related errors in .xsession-errors, and I don't know where else Nautilus logs to (running "nautilus --browser" creates a browser window but then drops back to the command line and doesn't print any output).

I'm using openSUSE 11.2 and the default Gnome, with codecs from Packman. A fairly similar setup on my other machine is thumbnailing perfectly fine.

Ubuntu :: Image Batch Conversion For Publishing?

May 27, 2011

I have a LaTeX document in one folder, and the images that this documents includes via

Code:
includegraphics{filename}

are in subfolders of this directory. Sometimes I compile this LaTeX file using PDFLaTeX, and others using plain LaTeX. Thus, I would like to have my images in PDF and EPS format, along with its original source, normally an SVG file created with Inkscape. I know I can use Inkscape to convert these files to these formats, but when there are 50 images, it becomes cumbersome/boring/APITA.

I have a small Makefile that reads gnuplot scripts and generates EPS files

Code:
# Makefile to convert into Encapsulated Postscript
# the plots made with GNU Plot. (.plt files)

OpenSUSE :: Nautilus Does Not Work After Updating To 11.3

Jul 21, 2010

The reason why I'm asking help here is because I'm being continuously ignored in #opensuse-irc-channel in freenode. I updated from 11.2 to 11.3 couple of days ago. I have always used gnome and loved it. Update from 11.1 to 11.2 didn't bring any problems and neither did from 11.2 to 11.3. Update went fine, no errors whatsoever occurred. Of course I had some problems with nvidia drivers and it was hard to get dual screen to work, but I managed. After that I figured out that nautilus is missing, because my desktop was empty and no right clicks worked. So I tried to run it from command line to see what it prints out:

Code:

[03:39:33] peikko ~ $ nautilus

nautilus: symbol lookup error: nautilus: undefined symbol: nautilus_file_info_getter In irc they said me before that I have mixed packages or something. I don't know what's the case but my nautilus just won't work. I ran "zypper dup" and synced the packages, and after reboot I figured maybe nautilus from 11.2 would work, so I one-click-installed it from software.opensuse.org/search without adding the repo of course. And for some reason it worked, maybe because I had zypper dupped before.

Being happily using my computers couple of days I noticed video thumbnails don't work any longer, so I killed nautilus. And duh, it didn't start again. I reinstalled nautilus from 11.2, and it looked like this:[URL] I decided to update it back, and live without nautilus until I find the solution. This is also my server, so reinstalling the system is not an option because I have all those confs and I don't have hard drive for backuping. I also tried again zypper dup from official repo with no joy. I also tried zypper dup & reboot from couple of other repos, like gnome latest for opensuse 11.3, but nothing changed.

OpenSUSE :: Switched To SUSE - Applications For Legal Work?

Mar 24, 2011

As the title of this post indicates, I recently switched over to SuSE from Fedora 14. I find that the default software repositories in YaST lack a lot of the amusements and applications I use for my legal work.

What I'm really looking for are apps that work well with the US tax code or plugins for law citations in LibreOffice. I could totally rely on SuSE if I could find that stuff!

I'm also looking for a few awesome games that I can download from an official repository. Can anyone recommend apps that fulfill my needs, any cool non-rogue RPG games or any software repositories where I can find them? I've got an X86_64 machine, openSuSE 11.4 KDE installed and I've got 4GB of DDR3 RAM.

OpenSUSE :: Image Stacking Application To Do Macro Work

Jan 26, 2011

Is there a free image stacking application in Linux. I do a lot of macro work and I even use stacking for larger pieces of work as well. It allows me to create a better, larger DOF than you would normally get with a Macro lens, which tends to be shallow. If you have never heard of stacking images it is like stitching images together for a panorama image. Only this works by selecting the sharpest parts of the image. The images are stacked up on top of eachother, the software selects the sharpest parts of each image and the joins them all up making your object hopefully sharper. You need a tripod to do this work.

Ubuntu Installation :: Resizing Won't Work On Boot Partition

Jul 6, 2010

After running Lucid since it's release I decided to wipe out my Karmic partition yesterday in order to utilize that space better elsewhere. So I booted up with the Karmic LiveCD, using the option just to check out Ubuntu. Then I opened up Gparted, unswapped (unmounted) the swap partition, made sure nothing else was mounted, and proceeded to delete my Karmic partition which then provided me with about 40 GB of unused space.

Since I wanted to re-assign 10 of those GB to my primary Ubuntu software partition where I keep all of my personal data, I went ahead and resized that one to make it 10 GB larger. First I had to move the empty space over which took several hours, but that wasn't a problem. Resizing the partition wasn't a problem either. Then I wanted to re-assign the remaining 30 GB to my Ubuntu boot partition which contains strictly my Ubuntu system ... and that's where the problem is.

The remaining unused space on the hard disk is located directly next to my Ubuntu boot partition. No matter what I do while using Gparted via the LiveCD, it doesn't seem to be possible for me to enlarge that boot partition. Does anyone know how I can do this either via Gparted, the Disk Utility from Lucid, or even via the terminal?

Ubuntu :: Change The Font In All Applications Except For Nautilus?

Jun 17, 2011

I have recently decided on leaving the default Ubuntu font behind for something different.

Going to Main Menu > System > Preferences > Appearance and clicking on the Fonts tab I am able to change the Application font, Desktop font, and Windows title font from Ubuntu to my new choice of fonts.

It looks great everywhere but Nautilus. It is pretty on the menu, taskbar, desktop, and everything else, but not in Nautilus. Too hard to read and type of the filenames and folders.

As such, I'm looking for a way to change it everywhere else, using the methods above, but not in Nautilus. Anybody know how?

Similar, I was able to find this posting, and using the method described below, it merely allows you to change the desktop icons, not the rest of Nautilus, which you could do using the method I mentioned above anyway.: [URL]

Quote:

run gconf Applications->System Tools->Configuration Editor

go to apps->nautilus->preferences and look for the desktop_font entry change this to something else and see if that is what you want
