OpenSUSE Hardware :: Option To Configure/create New Image With Few Applications?
Jan 13, 2010
I have installed opensuse 11.2 and then installed Kiwi-ltsp (Two network cards installed). Client system is booting from ltsp server using PXE boot method. But in client system full server is loaded. is there any option to configure/create new image with few applications (Openoffice and browser is enough)?
I am looking for image batch processing (mainly resizing) apps. As I have problems with Nautilus Image Resize in the other thread, are there any other software that is fairly easy to use to batch resize images? Preferably from a one-click install that works. I tried Phatch, but that didn't work for me.
i downloaded the gnome 3 based on fedora from www.gnome3.org. But when i run the image i dont see an option to install to my harddrive it just runs from my cd rom drive. Can any please lead me with instructions as to where and how i can install it to my harddrive.
when I go to download 11.3 I am presented with the installation medium for a DVD installation with a button that says download DVD. Should there be an option to download an ISO option for a CD installation on this page along with the DVD version? Some of our older machines can only read CD's with a max size of 500+ megs.
In the left pane of Nautilus File Browser, I can only display directory and file names. I don't have the button at the top of the pane which allows me to select an alternate view such as Tree view.
I am looking for a free software that performs image comparison. I would prefer a non-GUI application as I need this to be automated. I am using Redhat Enterprise 3 and 4
I hope anyone of you can help me build autofs5_5.0.4-3.2_amd64.deb and autofs5-ldap_5.0.3-3_amd64.deb-packages with a modified source for debian testing. The trouble is, the packages from the repositories do not work with our ldap server. I know that using the configure option DISABLE_MOUNT_LOCKING might solve it. But I (a) fail to build the modules and (b) am not sure if I put the compile option in the right place. I dont have much experience with building deb packages, maybe someone can give me a hint.
I can't figure out the syntax on the apt-cdrom command.
My CDROM is flaky, but have a portable CDROM attached to a usb.

There must be something simple that I have missed.
I downloaded GnuBG (Gnu Backgammon) from repos. Despite enabling sound it remains silent. Can anyone confirm it's a problem on my side? I can't see any option to configure the sound output or anything.
I am running fedora 11 and I am configuring my menu.ist file. I attached the menu.ist file in txt extension. What I want is:
1- I want the first option to be Windows XP (which is on the second HD) and I want the text to be Windows XP instead of Other. This option should be the default (so if I didn't press anything it will boot from xp). 2- To remove the 2.6.29.4-167.fc11.i686.PAE kernel from the list and keep the 2.6.30.5-43.fc11.i586.img available as a second option. 3- Increase the countdown time to 10 seconds.
How do I configure PAM to use the remember option for the passwd. It should remember the last 10 passwords and shouldnt allow the user to use the same old passwords. Here is what I have configured but doesnt work

Using Slackware 13.0. Have a Microdia web cam (60fc) and was (still am) looking for a simple free application to test it. Found a site which identified the drivers, modules, etc. needed so was checking my messages file and noticed that the Image Sensor HV7131R is not always identified as being detected when booting: kernel: usb 1-1.3: HV7131R image sensor detected Is this a problem or what?
I found modules videodev, V4L2, but could not find compat_ioctl32 and it is not listed in the modules loaded. Is this correct? Could not "find" it. I see usbcore listed during booting but does this mean it is a module? or a driver? or what? Also cannot find the an appropriate module that is for either ehci_hcd or uhci_hcd related as both of these appear in the messages. Also I see that the camera is for SN9C105 bridge and know that the "sn9c105" is supposed to be included in "sn9c102" module(?) but the SN9C105 camera notation does not always appear in messages. Is this correct? or (I think) I am confused by the numbering and cases used, i.e. what is a module (loadable?) a bridge and why change cases? Can someone straighten me out? Are all modules loaded listed by lsmod or just the loadable ones and usbcore etc. are "modules" loaded at another time?
I am trying to create a LiveCD with the option of installation. So far, so good.Live and installation works well. Now I want to automate the installation. The problem is that when I run the install from the ISO, he said he did not could find the preseed file.In looking around, it seems that we should add this file in initrd But, I do not see how.I searched a few hours on the net in vain.
Is it possible to create ONE iso image on 2 CDs ?I have a very old version Windows XP which installer is on 2 disc. I need to create an ISO image on them. If possible, please advise which command shall I run, dd ?
I do not know if this is possible, but I have a laptop in another country that I visit quite frequently. I wish to re build it in Ubuntu from the image of a mcahine I have here such that when I set it up I need not go on line for updates and installed apps.
A couple of reasons for this.
Internet in this other country is by land line and VERY expensive and slow
It would be useful if it were an image as I am happy with the install on the laptop I have here,, and do not want to spend an age on my hols configuring and installing and playing about... Just install Ubuntu from my CD and then the image to create the same machine.....
I just downloaded the FEDORA iso image file. Naturally, the next step is to create a DVD. The problem is I'm using a mininetbook hith no DVD unit and I have not an external one, so I think I can use the USB as an alternative, but I just don't find how to in the documentation, and the applications to burn DVD's dont have the option... how can I do this?
I have an HP C7000 chasis with 5 blades. We have a known good, secure version of RHEL 5.6 on one of the blades. My question is, can I make a "golden iso image" from that running o.s. to install on 2 of the other blades? If so, how can I do that?
I want to install matlab in Linux. I want to create a new folder in Applications . The problem is i cant find where this 'APPLICATIONS' location is.. Only after which can i proceed with CD and MKDIR commands.
It functions perfectly well, but the Files & Folders object has as a feature a 'recent' section which displays recently opened files. This is much the same as a menu object available in Gnome, except with the latter you could clear recent files for security or privacy purposes - you cannot do this in Unit.I have found that if you drag a file from the 'recent' section in the Unity Files & Folders object to Trash it doesn't just delete the shortcut - it deletes the target as well.
It is not at all clear if and how you can configure the File & Folders and the Applications objects to display what you want rather than the default, and the inability to quickly and safely clear recently opened items is something I think is in need of a fix.
I'm now using RHEL5 and I've noticed that when right-clicking in the desktop, the option at the top of the menu list is Create Folder. Is there any way I can change this option to Open Terminal
