I'm using Fedora 14. I need to install an older version of MySQL for some testing at work. To do so, I go to remove the existing MySQL 5.1.x that is installed - a dependency of Akonadi. Well, the ensuing chain of dependencies ended up essentially killing KDE. I don't suppose there is a convenient way to get KDE back without Akonadi? I really don't care if I have PIM storage services.

I have installed Ubuntu desktop on Ubuntu Server to get Boinc manager running. Now I want to remove Ubuntu-desktop.
Second Problem: /etc/init.d/xorg start : No such file or directory When the server boots i get a blinking cursor.
Is there a way in SuSE 11.1 to have the conventional desktop, instead the plasma desktop? I thought that installing KDE 3.5 will fix it, but I was wrong. I really don't want to download back SuSE 11.0, just to have my old desktop layout. SuSE developers should at least leave it as an option than to force people to install it

I immediately deleted the "Desktop" shortcut that was created in "/home/user/Documents" but it was too late already and the damage has been done. When I try to create a new document on my desktop, it says "Error while coying to Desktop There was an error getting information about the destination. Show more details Error stating file '/home/user/Documents/' Desktop':No such file or directory" Now, I know that my desktop now is pointing me to a location in Documents folder which doesn't exist at all. I want to know if there is any way that one could remove the user list from the login screen requiring the user to type in their user name. I am not quite sure why this feature is not implemented and it is one of the very few things I don't like about Lucid but hopefully there is a fix for it.

I opened gconf-editor using sudo and went to apps>gdm>simple-greeter. I then checked disable_user_list.
After complete shutdown, I was still placed in the list screen. I checked gconf-editor and the disable_user_list was still checked.

If I just close it, launch "akonadi configuration" and ask for a test, some of the errors have already disappeared. It looks like the first test is made too soon, before everything is running. I've already been through all the KDE documentation, and they're outdated when it comes to Akonadi and Nepomuk in Natty.
I've disabled Desktop Search in System Settings, which is supposed to disable Nepomuk. For some reason, nepomukserver and akonadiserver along with about twelve other memory-sucking processes autostart and have to be manually killed after my upgrade to Natty.
I can't simply remove all packages that contain akonadi in the name; one of its dependencies is kubuntu-desktop, which would suck to remove.
I'm not using any of the KDE PIM components (I already removed Kontact, KOrganizer, KMail, Kopete) but some akonadi tasks (~15-20) are always running in the background.How can I get rid of akonadi and nepomuk completely without removing the actual KDE desktop?

I finally found it on the MythTV bug tracker, which links it to the MySQL site. There is a patch available, but the bug was fixed in 5.1.43. After doing those steps the Akonadi server still shows a window with errors on startup. As far as I remember the ~/.xsession-errors file contains an error like "Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket /home/alexander/<some path that I forget, sorry>/mysql.socket.
Fresh Jessie installation with KDE desktop. Installed from Disk 1 of the dvd images. Can't figure why apt wants to remove this stuff. The only packages I removed from the base installation was iceweasel, and juk. I'd like to autoremove to clean out the amarok stuff but I'm afraid it will take all the rest with it. What do I do about this, and or how do I fix it? Does apt have a setting where if an app isn't used for x amount of time it deems it useless for removal?
