I am trying to set up one home networking lab in which I plan to use three routers. One of the router will be QUAGGA over Ubuntu Server. I cannot figure out how to setup my HSIA USB Modem (TataPhoton+ from Tata teleservices)in ubuntu server. This device works fine with Ubuntu 9.10 desktop edition. Just a few clicks in network manager does the job, but how to achive the same in ubuntu server which have no GUI
find and install modem driver for the Alcatel X200 USB modem?
I've been all over the internet trying to locate Linux drivers but no success. Alcatel's website says is not supported, only in Windows. I'm sure there's gotta be a way to use the X200 in Linux.
i'm running Kubuntu karmic and i've been using a 3G Huawei E1552 modem to connect to the internet, everything was going well when suddenly my modem stopped working. I've tried reconfiguring everything, i even reinstalled kubuntu from scratch with no success. Here's a part of my /var/log/debug

Basically, I wanted to use the Bootp (PXE) protocol to boot a machine (my laptop) from my network instead of using USB/DVD boot medias to reinstall if need be. My router being a piece of crap, I couldn't setup the DHCP server to allow PXE packets. Confirmed from the manufacturer that it is not possible. Well for a $140 router, you would expect the opposite. Anyways, here I am with a small machine setup with Slack, no desktop environment (only CLI) and connected to my router (which I deactivated the DHCP) so the machine can act as a DHCP server. It works very well. However, I would like to install a few other utilities into that machine and for them to work, I need to put the machine between my cable modem and my router. Basically, here's the topology from outside):
Internet (ISP) --> Modem --> DHCP machine --> Router (no DHCP - acting as a switch) --> computers & printers
The problem is that I cannot connect to the modem from the computers on the network. Also I cannot access the internet (go on the WAN side) from the computers. From the computers (namely my laptop), I can ping the router, but cannot ping the interface where DHCP broadcast. Also I cannot ping the modem. From the router (using the web config page), I can ping the DHCP broadcast. From the DHCP machine, I can ping the modem. In the DHCP server, I setup the eth0 (the interface where the modem connect to) as a DHCP assigned IP so it can obtain the IP from the modem. The eth1 (the interface where DHCP broadcast) is static. All my machines obtains a IP from the DHCP machine without a hiccup.
I am having trouble for routing port 80 from a Billion adsl modem to a guest server in VirtualBox. There are quite few different changes from my last setup so I kind of confuse which one is wrong.
I used to use have the setup belowusing modem Linksys WAG354G use static ip 192.168.1.100 for my machine use static ip 192.168.1.102 for my guest VirtualBox server guest OS is serving http listening on port 80 i use bridge from my host OS for VirtualBox set my modem to direct all traffic on port 80 to 192.168.1.102 host OS was Fedora 11
now I useusing modem Billion 7404VNPX use same static address and configuration host OS is Fedora 13
main issue is I cannot reach the guest OS if I navigate to my modem ip address. (e.g. http://192.168.1.1) if I change the modem to direct all traffic to my host OS ip address (192.168.1.100) it works nicely.
I have tried to disable and enable the firewall without any luck.
Tried turning firewall off, i tried port forwarding tcp port 22, but it still doesn't work. Also am unable to ping modem over WAN, i can ping the modem locally though. Tech support claims pinging and ssh is not part of the internet so they wont support it in any way.
I have been able to find enough information that I need to enable 'time-udp' in /etc/xinetd.d/ But there isn't an entry for time-udp. How do I enable time-udp (Time of Day server) on a Red Hat system? It's RHEL 5.6 64bit.
I just got connected to Charter Cable Internet service a few days ago and I'm having a weird problem with my home network. Prior to this my network worked fine. On my network I have a desktop running Ubuntu 9.10/64 and Virtualbox with WinXP installed, an HTPC with Ubuntu 9.10/32 installed and a laptop dual booted with Ubuntu 9.10/32 and WinXP. The desktop and HTPC are hard wired to a wireless router and the laptop is wireless. The cable modem is hard wired to the router. I have samba installed and UFW is disabled. The problem is: with the cable modem turned off or on standby, all machines connect to each other and can transfer files, etc just fine but when I activate the cable modem all of the machines can connect to the Internet but the machines running Ubuntu can't connect to each other on the home network. If I boot the laptop into Windows, it can connect to the Linux machines just fine but if I boot it into Linux, it won't connect to the Linux machines but it can connect to the Internet and as far as the desktop, Ubuntu won't connect to the network but Windows running in the Virtualbox with bridged networking can connect to all of the machines.
I'm try to create a mobile broadband connection using my Huawei E 1550 medem. but in Network manager there is not way to select my modem in the first step ( device selection step ) the drop down menu is locked. what to do ? how to configure my modem with ubuntu ?
I have a dual boot Win XP and Ubuntu 8.04. I use my phone Nokia 7210 Supernova as a USB modem on XP using NokiaPC Suite. I don't know how to do this in Ubuntu.
I'm using an external Huawei CDMA fixed wireless terminal (phone + dial-up modem). It connects to my PC via a USB port. Actually my PC recognizes it (after driver installation) as "TIUMP Serial Port". I guess the driver is a kind of USB adapter for a serial port.
I can't get it to work in ubuntu 9.10. I ran wvdial (after installing dependencies and wvdial package) and it doesn't recognize my device as a modem. Is there any solution to this problem? Without solving it, I won't be able to go online from ubuntu.
I'm running Ubuntu 9.10 (Kubuntu) and have a LG Arena (KM900) smartphone which when plugged into the USB socket and I select the iSync option on the phone, the handset is correctly identified as a Mobile Broadband device in Ubuntu network manager. However, I'm having difficulty getting Ubuntu to connect to T-Mobile through the 3G modem. I've referenced [URL] and[URL] and I can not connect. I'm assuming that this is something to do with Mobile Broadband settings I'm using:
APN: general.t-mobile.uk Username: user Password: pass
I have a WiFi modem. Its Chinese(non-brand) modem. I can use this modem in windows Xp easily. Just need to install a software given with this modem. but cann't use it in Linux as using ubuntu 9.10 below is my lsusb report.

I moved from Debian to Ubuntu a few months ago, with everything working fine, except my 3G modem (which worked with wvdial and umtsmon in Debian).
The packaging claims that it is a Huawei E160, but lsusb says different: E220 (12d1:1003).
I've followed various instructions from these forums and the wiki, and it seems to be being recognised as a modem (I can set up an O2 prepaid (UK) connection), but it refuses to connect.
I have a USB modem working in windows. But no luck to connect using Ubuntu 10.04.
I have setup usb-modeswitch and other stuff. The modem is attached to port ttyUSB0. But when i run "sudo wvdialconf" it displays message like this.
Editing `/etc/wvdial.conf'.
Scanning your serial ports for a modem.
Modem Port Scan<*1>: S0 S1 S2 S3 WvModem<*1>: Cannot get information for serial port. ttyUSB0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 2400 baud, next try: 9600 baud ttyUSB0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- failed with 9600 baud, next try: 9600 baud ttyUSB0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- and failed too at 115200, giving up.
Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program? Did you configure it properly with setserial?

I am running Ubuntu 11.04 on an external USB drive on a Dell D630 laptop.
My issue is I can't get my 3G modem to work. It is a K3770 Huawei modem.
When I plug it in after boot up it is not recognized at all as far as I can tell. (Which is not very far).
When I plug it in before boot up it shows up as a CD rom drive. I have usb-modeswitch is installed. (It was installed by default during the 11.04 installation.)
what to do to get this to work? Remember my Ubuntu is running on an external USB drive so anything that switches USB off even temporarily won't work. (I don't think).
I've just spent 2 days of extensive lurking how to solve this problem. Namely, i have ZTE usb modem, model MF626 T. The sofware provided with it works only under windows. What i tried first was to download hso.ko module (copied to the /lib/modules/`uname r`/kernel/drivers/usb/serial/). Then i downloaded hsolinkcontrol and HSOconnect. Unfortunately, i didn't get those /dev/ttyHS* ports that should appear. Only /dev/ttyUSB*. I blacklisted option module. Then changed occurences of ttyHS* to ttyUSB* in .py sources for HSOconnect. what i get is the popup interface GUI that has "connect" button disabled. Then i tried to set up connection via gnome-ppp. The usb modem was automatically detected as /dev/ttyUSB1. But when i supply telephone number that i got with the stick, i get message after "Sending: ATM1L3DT*99*" ->"no carrier found". Then i tried to copy the other two modules i found on the net-airprime.ko and usbserial.ko. I've renamed the option.ko and old usbserial.ko in order to use them later if needed. And also i've put in /etc/udev/rules.d/ some scripts i've found on net, used to mount and unmount ZTE modem. None of all that worked, and somehow i have the feeling i've messed up everything. What i just posted above is the sum of everything i googled out. I would be very glad if someone would help me out with this. I usually like to spend some time lurking and googling, but this is simply taking too much time...
I have this USB modem P300U(SIM600 chip based) which works fine under wind@ws because it has it's own driver, but the clever seller told me that it worked under Linux as well. It was with Redhat 8 but I couldn't get redhat 8 to download. And until now absolutely false.
I have Debian with Kernel 2.6.32-5-686 I just want to send sms through this modem. It's not recognized as modem I'm frustrated because it's not useful for me if it doesn't work on Linux I looked for info but I can't make it work. What I get in my debian is:
lsusb: Bus 002 Device 003: ID 10c4:ea60 Cygnal Integrated Products, Inc. CP210x Composite Device
dmesg: 9857.011649] usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 3 [ 9857.818942] usb 2-1: New USB device found, idVendor=10c4, idProduct=ea60 [ 9857.818989] usb 2-1: New USB device strings: Mfr=1, Product=2, SerialNumber=3
I am new to redhat and tried to run my reliance net connect highspeed 1x... is there any possible way of directly using by pluging in... One way is using wine then running the exe format of the driver....but it too need net connection for further packages needed by wine...At present I have only usb modem for internet
I am having issues getting the modem it the dial-in server I have set up to answer on the correct ring. I have the /etc/inittab set:
Code: S1:2345:respawn:/sbin/mgetty -n 7 -x 6 -D ttyS2 yet I have to play with 'init q' and minicom to get it to answer on ring 7. Then a reboot destroys the setting and I have to go through the whole hassle again and it goes back to answering on the first ring.
This is not acceptable. This dial-in server is only a very back door into my network. It is only turned on when needed. Most of the time it is not powered up. When it is turned on it is by a non-tech person with out the ability to jump through the hoops to get it to answer on the correct ring.
Ideally I want this modem to just listen to the line after it stops ringing to check for a data signal and if it does not find it just hang up. If it finds a data signal then establish a connection and all that. That way it does not interfere with answering machine on the line. Google has yielded very little info about setting up dial-in servers. Modems are not used very much any more.
I just configured my system to be a mail server after following this howto URL...Normally before the configuration i use a huawei E1550 to browse on it but now it no longer works. It connects to the internet but refuses to browse.I cannot open any webapge or site for now.I suspect it has to do with the shorewall configuration i must have changed that has caused this.
I use ubuntu 9.10 and PCI connected Conexant CX11252 Modem. My GNOME PPP doesn't detects my modem. How can I create a connection? Is there any way to detect my modem and connect ? or ubuntu is fit only for broadband? I think most of the activities in ubuntu depends on internet. I can't do any work. I am losing my money in Internet Cafe. Broadband is even not available in my resident area. Therefore. find a solution to connect internet via my dial up modem!
