Jan 29, 2010I have a dual boot Win XP and Ubuntu 8.04. I use my phone Nokia 7210 Supernova as a USB modem on XP using NokiaPC Suite. I don't know how to do this in Ubuntu.

It works fine. But, as soon as i turn off the line or close the browser, computer freezes - black screen with few terminal lines same as those when i start or logout the computer. And nothing, i have to push start button to restart it.

View 1 Replies View RelatedThere are absolutely no wifi hotspots near my school which doesnt have wifi. The only free hotspot is in the bar, and I use it quite often when I take laptop with me. Well, when I don't have wifi access I use my phone. When I had my old laptop with windows on it I could use nokia pc suite to connect to internet via phone on my laptop. Now I am 100% linux user (no way you would force me to go back, specially not on a laptop).
I was wondering if there is any software for fedora 12 that could do a similar thing and turn my phone in a modem...

Sorry, no modem was detected! Is it in use by another program? Did you configure it properly with setserial?
For lsusb it detects the phone correctly as-

I m trying to show the power of linux to the world bt no body helps me after lots of googling i cant find a proper way to install rpm,gz,bz2 n etc software in linux. without any error. dependency,error,n lots of other problem that i have faced. so being on pt..from last 3 days i m trying to install Wvdial 1.61 bt i m unable to do it. some wvstreams.pc file stoping me. i m really frusted. being a new to linux no one can expect lots of searching by me me..from last 3 days i m just trying traying n only tying..every time Google rediectes me to this site.. I had compile and install Wvstream.tar.gz file sucssesfully. mainly i dnt knw wheter it is done or undone..then i m trying to install wvdial as my main aim.bt as put the command make...it show some thing like could nt found wvstreams.pc...stop i had personally chk tht file in the pkgconfig folder bt it still shows me that error. i want to connect my cell phone to RHEL5 any how.. i want to use internet in linux..

View 3 Replies View Relatedi have the huawei 1550 3g modem (prepaid) tele2 and a nokia 5800 both working on on other dists,installed vwdial and vwdialconf finds the nokia and and recognize it as a modem.vwdial connects and hang up kppp same story. what is the deal with the phone? i have all the settings right it should really just work. And the usbmodem it seems like i need usb_modeswitch but i cant compile i properly and the slackbuild is broken/old.
View 13 Replies View RelatedTrying to move from Windows to OpenSUSE. I have installed OpenSUSE 11.2, and am having a hard time trying to connect to the internet using my nokia E65. I have tried to configure the modem thru YaST and it keeps showing that my nokia E65 modem is not configured, but adds another modem every time I configure using the edit button i.e. modem0, modem1 etc.
When i finish the configuration I get pop ups on the bottom right conner:
Notification from network management
WLAN interface attached
Network interface attached
But nothing happens afterwards. When I connect the phone it shows that it is recognized as a modem (probably). but when I click on the icon so it connects to my service provider "econet" it just says activating with a red x in the conner, and still nothing happens!
The following are the screenshots (still not sure how to attach files on this forum), may someone assist, with that too.
I really want to move from Windows but this is what's stopping me. the sooner I connect to the Internet through my phone, the sooner I leave Windows, since it's the only way I can connect to the internet.

find and install modem driver for the Alcatel X200 USB modem?
I've been all over the internet trying to locate Linux drivers but no success. Alcatel's website says is not supported, only in Windows. I'm sure there's gotta be a way to use the X200 in Linux.
i'm running Kubuntu karmic and i've been using a 3G Huawei E1552 modem to connect to the internet, everything was going well when suddenly my modem stopped working. I've tried reconfiguring everything, i even reinstalled kubuntu from scratch with no success.Here's a part of my /var/log/debug

I have been able to sync my Nokia C6-00 using multisync in Ubuntu Lucid 10.04. Thought of sharing it in Ubuntuforums. I have borrowed most instructions from one post for Nokia N95 but do not have the link right now.
1. Install blueman using sudo aptitutde install blueman This installs the bluetooth manager. It should be easy to configure bluetooth support for your phone with blueman menu.
