Networking :: Ping Connection To Router OK But No Ping Between Boxes In LAN

May 26, 2010

I have Mandriva One 2009.0 (192.168.1.100) on one box and Mandriva Free 2010.0 (192.168.1.118) on the other. I can ping router (192.168.1.1) from both of these boxes but I can't ping one box to the other and the other way around. What's going on?.

Do I have to change some settings in router?. Or is it firewall issue on those two machines?. Both of these boxes are connected by cable. Symbol of the router: TL-WR340G.

Networking :: MacOSX To RHEL5 / 6 Ssh Connection Timeout

Apr 1, 2011

I have a user using Mac OSX and ssh-ing to a couple of Redhat servers, one running RHEL5 and the other RHEL6. The user's connection seems to be timing out after 60 minutes or so of inactivity. The user is on the same subnet as the servers. Both servers have the same sshd_config files with the following entries with regards to timeout:

TCPKeepAlive yes
ClientAliveInterval 30
ClientAliveCountMax 99999

In a nutshell, his office Mac keeps getting dropped off both machines. Other machines, including the Mac he logs in with from home doesn't get timed out and keep the connection open. The log files are unremarkable and the switch port shows no errors

Ubuntu Networking :: PPTP Connection Failing With LCP Timeout

Mar 6, 2010

I'm using Kubuntu 9.10, my pppd version is 2.4.5 and pptp is 1.7.2 I'm trying to connect to the iPredator VPN service, but I keep running into problems with LCP. I've tried using knetworkmanager, nm-applet, kvpnc and plain old text-based configuration to no avail. Here's a snippet of pppd's output:

[Code].....

(I've got "defaultroute" in my /etc/ppp/peers/ipred config file.) Any ideas what could be causing this? Could it even be my router? It claims to support PPTP, but considering it claims a lot of other things which aren't true, I wouldn't be surprised if it was the culprit.

General :: Get Ping Timeout Below 1 Second?

Mar 30, 2011

I have a web application that runs through thousands of IP addresses and checks if they're online. Basically, if a server uses more than 250ms to respond, it's considered offline in our case. It would be an enormous timesaver if we could get the ping command to give up after about 300 ms, instead of what seems to be the minimum value of the -W parameter, 1 second.

Ubuntu Networking :: Ethernet Connection Does Not Come Back If Cable Had Been Manually Disconnected

Jan 28, 2011

OS: Maverick Ethernet driver: tested with sky2 an sk98lin This has been driving me crazy for the last few months: if I unplug ethernet cable while my laptop is on reconnecting it sometimes does not bring the connection back.

And once ethernet is gone nothing that I try seems to consistently bring it back. Rebooting, disabling/enabling the driver, disabling/enabling NIC in BIOS, changing driver from sky2 to sk98lin, deleting connection from Network Manager, resetting the router - nothing helps. It seems to come back randomly a few weeks later. Once I used live Ubuntu on a USB stick and ethernet came back not only on a live distro but then when I rebooted also on my main OS. But when I tried that trick next time ethernet was missing in the live distro as well.

Also once I was able to revive ethernet but compiling sk98lin driver, blacklisting sky2 and rebooting. Of course next time doing the same routine did not help. The thing is - ethernet works fine with either sky2 or sk98lin and I can unplug the cable and plug it back in most of the time without any issues. But then every so often - bang and I'm stuck with only wireless until ethernet suddenly starts working again.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Connection Can't Even Ping Router

Feb 4, 2010

Previously posted under "Wireless Connection Can't Even Ping Router".I've been using Ubuntu for two years. About a year ago I switched to Kubuntu because I prefer the KDE desktop. Two weeks ago I bought a new laptop: Dell Vostro v13. I installed Kubuntu 9.10 from the live CD and everything worked! Well, almost. I also set up a home wireless network with a new Belkin N+ router from WalMart. When I try to connect to my router, the Plasma Network Manager reports that I'm connected and the assigned IP address, but I'm not truly connected! I can't even ping my own router, all packets are lost.

This problem is intermittent, sometimes I connect fine. I dual-boot with Windoze7 and it connects without problems. Also, if I connect with Windoze, then re-boot into Kubuntu, it seems to "wake-up" the connection somehow and it works. I might also add that I connect without difficulty to other routers in my neighborhood, at work, in airports, etc.My old laptop was also running Kubuntu 9.10, and it connected to the Belkin router without problems, although it was a different wireless card and driver. I also tried Ubuntu 9.10 from the live CD and it also reported a connection, IP address, etc. I couldn't ping the router from that connection either!

Programming :: Bash Ctrl+c Tarp And Bash Read With Timeout?

Jan 24, 2010

#!/bin/bash
trap "echo 'you got me'" SIGINT SIGTERM # to trap ctrl+c
echo "Press ctrl+c during 5 sec loop"
for ((i=0;i<5;i++)); do

[Code]...

How come code behaves normally and stops when ctrl+c signal is caught and resumes, but after I use at least one timeout read in the code it looks like, if signal is caught again it doesn't pause the execution but skips the loop. If you remove -t (timeout) option from the read, both loops look the same!

Ubuntu Servers :: "ERROR :Closing Link: [unknown@127.0.0.1] (Ping Timeout)"

Apr 3, 2011

I am trying to set up the IRCD-IRC2 server to allow local chat between users connected to my Ubuntu server through SSH. I have port forwarding all set up to the point when I open port 6667 on the localhost it immediately comes back with":My.Irc.Com 020 * lease wait while we process your connection." Sounds promising. But it's not. It hangs for over a minute, then comes back with "ERROR :Closing Link: [unknown@127.0.0.1] (Ping timeout)" and closes the connection.

I don't want IRC2 to connect to any other servers. I just want it to facilitate chat between other users logged in through SSH as I said. Here is my ircd.conf file

M:My.Irc.Com::BC, Canada:6667:0001
A:Canada:info@irc.com:Notes::SrvName:
P:127.0.0.1:::6667:
I:127.0.0.1::::10

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
